CCOM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
ok so i saw the most beautiful girl at my interview on oct 30 she's from san fran would really like to see her again

Some love at first site 😍. Can't blame you. There were some hot gals at my interview as well. Then again, posting on SDN may not be the best way to pursue no? 🙄

Hi Guys,

Is there someone in particular that you have been contacting when requesting for an update or just sending a general email to the admissions office? Could someone provide me with some contact information? Thanks

There is no specific person to contact. Just use [email protected] and generally a guy named Ryan Claran answers your question. 🙂

Hey guys,

Congrats to everyone who got accepted, and best luck to those still waiting! Seems like my decision to attend CCOM is final, just paid my deposit🙂. For those who will be going to the school, please join the facebook group: CCOM class of 2014! I can't wait to meet my future classmates 🙂

Do you mind sharing your stats and when you were complete?

I will be interviewing december 8th.

My stats: 3.34cGPA, 3.27sGPA 30R MCAT (12BS, 10PS, 8VR)
complete october 6th, invited for interview november 25th

Has anyone who has sent their transcripts to CCOM shown them as being recieved. I sent my to them about 2 1/2 weeks ago and the accepted student checklist still shows them as "expected". It is the only thing I;'m missing.

I was fairly certain that you send your transcripts strictly to AACOMAS and they then update the schools you apply too. Only recomendation letters are sent directly to the school via the writer and nothing else. Does anyone else know any different? :scared:

The transcripts sent to AACOMAS will get you through the application process. However, once you're accepted, the school will want their own copy (that came directly from the institution you attended).

HEY everyone, I wanted to know my chances of getting an interview here: my science gpa is a 3.73 and my overall gpa is a 3.68 and my mcat is 25. What are my chances? I was complete back on Oct. 29. 😱

I'd say you have a real good shot assuming you have other stuff on your application as well. The MCAT is kinda low but you make up for it in your GPA.

i was complete at a similar time, maybe earlier even, and also haven't heard a peep....i have a lower gpa (s3.33, c3.5) but higher mcat (29Q).....would really love to visit the chicago area, i've never been there!

My mcat was 26 and my gpa was a 3.78 overall and science was like a 3.89 or something...similar to yours and I have received an acceptance. I would say you have a great shot as long as you have lots of EC's and have good letters and PS. Just remember to kick butt on your interview and it should all work out! Good luck 🙂

I appreciate all of your comments! 😀

i'm nervous!!!! is anyone interviewing this friday, 12/4??

how many ppl are there normally there to interview on one day? and does anyone know how many seats are open?

Also, I'm flying in around 9pm... do you guys think it'd be better if I took a cab from O'hare to a hotel near campus... or is there a line that would take me to that area and it'd be close to some hotel?

I've been complete since 10/6 😱 if this makes you feel any better. I figure if i don't hear by the end of this month it's probably a rejection. Good luck to you and everyone else who's still waiting for an interview.

Does everything have to be sent in by December 14, 2009? Or is it just the $1000.00 deposit and the forms? Do I have to have my transcripts in by December 14, 2009 as well?

Just the money. The rest of it needs to be in by the time you start orientation and even then some people struggle with IMR's for about the first month of school.

Does anyone know if the $1000 is fully refundable? I read the terms and I believe we would only get $100 back if we withdraw. I just wanna confirm this. Thanks

No it is not fully refundable, you can get $100 of it back just as they said. Otherwise if you attend the full amount is applied towards your tuition.

Does anyone know how long it takes to hear back from a sent in secondary. I got mine late in the application season?

Don't give up until the fat lady sings! ( aka a "we regret to inform you that..." letter in hand ). The application process is a waiting game for both sides. It makes sense for a school to hold onto many complete applications until they have a better idea on the matriculation ratio of their early interview/accepted applicants. The December 14th deposit deadline should help some with that, but remember they do have 9 more months to fill their class.

On a side note I've been complete at a couple of schools since early August. When I called admissions they informed me that the admissions committees could make a decision through March or April. In other words, I feel you and wish you the best of luck!

I've been complete since early Nov. and I've been wondering about CCOM as well. Good to hear that they just seem to take longer in general. It was weird though because AZCOM got back to me right away and their only available interview slots then were in April. 😱

Just a thought, but have you thought about renting a car for Thursday night? If you took the metra I believe you'd have to take a line into downtown chicago, then switch lines and take the new one back out near Downers Grove. In the morning you'd have to have a taxi lined up to then get you to CCOM. After the interview you'd have to do it all in reverse. If you did the taxi alone you'd have 3 rides to think about (to the hotel, to the school in the morning with all of your stuff, then back to the airport) and probably end up paying nearly the same or more than the cost of a rental car.

...and of course good luck to you on Friday!

AZCOM and CCOM seem to have completely opposite strategies. AZCOM interviews a lot of people, quickly, without too much analysis, then go through with a fine toothed comb post interview. CCOM on the other hand, seems to really take their time, review applicants thoroughly, then hand out interview invites. Take this with a grain of salt, but it's just what I've personally noticed.

FYI cabs to and from Ohare cost about $50 each way. When I interviewed I rented a car and the total after paying for gas and tolls and such came to about $85. If I were doing it again I would take a taxi to your hotel, arrange for your hotel shuttle to take you to CCOM in the morning and during your interview try to find someone else to split a cab back to the airport with and if worse comes to worse you just get a cab by yourself to the airport. Also if you're not familiar with the area this would keep you from getting lost.

Also make sure to bring adequate clothing to your interview, it's starting to get cold and not the best weather.

I actually planned on doing that!! 😀 I'm under 25 so renting a car would be more expensive and I didn't think it'd be a good idea to drive in unfamiliar territory esp with chicago weather. I'm a cali girl myself so I'm prepping myself for weather shock! I'm on the east coast now and what I call freezing is apparently a joke to everyone else. 🙁

Thanks to those that gave me advise though.

I interviewed Oct 19 and was accepted Nov 9. My stats are 3.974 GPA with a 30O MCAT. I'm probably going to submit my deposit tomorrow, so class of 2014 here we come!

Hahaha ya I didn't know about the toll roads when I first came so I ended up having to beg the car in back of me for change. They didn't like that AT ALL (and FYI you can just drive through and you'll never get the ticket b/c it would go to the car rental company, and ya I didn't know that at the time either.)

Cali eh? AZ here and ya the weather takes some getting used to but we study so much it's not the end of the world, and 12/4 you're in luck because it's suppose to be clear. Granted the high for the day is 31 but at least it's not snowing 😉

Complete: 11/11

Stats: GPA 3.22 sGPA 3.05 MCAT 36Q (non-trad, I guess, been out of school for two years)

interviewing this tuesday, december 8th. I was reading some of the interview feedback and found discrepancies. Some people said it was 2 interviewers and some said 3 interviewers as well as some saying one-on-one interview and some said group interviews. Which one is it? And how relaxed is the interview, similiar to nova?

CCOM does a panel interview. It varies at times because sometimes the staff is not available for the interview. I was suppose to get 3 interviewers but ended up getting 2, so it depends on which group is interviewing you that day. Good luck on your interview by the way, CCOM is very laid back.

Thanks for the feedback👍 I'm excited for this interview, and its only 15 minutes away!

Good luck to you! :luck: Don't forget to come back and tell us how it went. I'm also curious about the interview style and I'm excited for mine. CCOM is one of my top choice schools although I know how competitive it is so I'm not getting my hopes up. Still, a girl can dream! :xf:

i know that 200 end up going to the school, but does anyone know how many people are interviewed and how many people are accepted? usually more are accepted than end up going...

Where is everybody going to be living next year?

ETA Found it:
I believe most receive secondaries.

I recently asked my dean what our applications were like for the class of 2013. These are approximate numbers because I can't remember EXACTLY.

Total apps 5,200 (slightly more than this).
Completed Secondary 3,800 (it was either this or 4,200, again can't remember).
Interviewed ~800
Accepted ~400

i ended up loving this school and it pretty much jumped to my #1.

does anyone know what day the committee usually meets? so nervous 🙁

I'm already going to CCOM, but I was just wondering, like a poll kind of thing, if anyone else applied to other IL allopathic schools and what your status is with them. Thanks!

They usually meet towards the end of the month, I would email them maybe a week or so before Christmas and see if they have anything to tell ya.

Glad to hear it, I wanted to drop in and say hello to you guys interviewing but our lunches are now at 11am on Friday for winter quarter so it didn't work out. Gotta love Dave who took you on your tour through our class during lecture though, that was great. Missing anatomy lecture isn't something everyone would do...

I'm pretty sure the admissions director said they were meeting this week.

I'm pretty sure the admissions director said they were meeting this week.

I called the office and was informed they would be meeting at the end of the week (thurs-sat?). I was wondering how quickly this usually translates to updates on the online system.. especially with the weekend to pass over. I am doing my best to keep my mind off the decision but I am very anxious..

interviewed here today! I am impressed with what they have to offer but nova is still remaining number 1 since I would like to get away from the chicagoland area for a while. Interview was VERY relaxed, not at all like the feedbacks. Only question I got asked from there what telling the interviewers about myself. Mostly talked about my significant clininal exposure and health care reform as well as the mammogram/pap smear report debates. Hope I get in! it will be a tough choice if I get accepted to nova and ccom

Thanks for posting the feedback! Nova's a great school too (have an interview there later in Jan). Hope it works out for you. Just curious, how did you get from talking about your clinical experience to health care reform?
