CCOM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
for those of you that are currently students at CCOM. are there opportunities to work with any athletic teams in the surrounding area? I know that MSUCOM works with their college sports teams - performing OMT and such - is there anything like this available at CCOM?

Accepted~! I am sooo happy! Oh, and there were 12 people at the 1st round of interview on 9/17! I wonder which ones out of the 12 will I be seeing again! But you all were so great and I'll be looking forward to seeing those of you who choose to attend at CCOM!

Good luck to the ones who are currently applying or waiting on a decision! CCOM is a great school and I had a great time interviewing there! I didn't get asked any ethical question or hypothetical question. It was a friendly conversation b/t the four of us, with the goal of getting to know me better!

Have a great weekend! 😀

I also interviewed on 9/17. I wonder how many of us were accepted? Congrats! I got my official letter in the mail on friday and it's on my fridge now.

I received my letter on the 8th, but I'm not too far from Downers Grove so depending on where you live it could take longer. At the MWU portal there are a couple of extra tabs and I believe they are labeled matriculation agreement. Don't be nervous if the letter you receive is thin, I was but they only have two pages they send to you. Good luck!

I was in the third group of interviews, the group on tuesday the 21st. haha umm short guy from seattle? i was really impressed at how many people stopped by to say hi and wish us good luck in the interview. seems like ccom has a really good sense of community 🙂

i was the very obviously non-trad who stopped in with short blondish red hair

and we do have an excellent sense of community, it is one of the many things i love about this place 🙂 😍

I think I saw you today... If it was you, you were very nice and helpful, as was everyone. This interview experience was really nice and everyone tried really hard to make us all feel comfortable which I greatly appreciated! Fellow interviewees were all very nice as well, maybe I'll see some of you around next year!!

Guys, I looked up the 2010-2011 tuition on CCOM website (Downers Grove Campus), it says $49,219. But it does not mention whether this is in-state or out of state tuition. I thought there would be a difference? Does anyone know?

Thanks

There is no longer an IS/OSS difference in tuition as of two-years ago. I think they lost government funding (since Illinois is broke).

I interviewed 9/27 and received a letter saying I'm on the alternative list (with the date 10/1 on the head of the letter -- that was fast).

mommy2three - I meet you also! thank you for talking to us awhile back.

I'm surprised you got waitlisted avoidthetiger. You have interviews all over the place, lots of DO and MD schools so your scores must be better than avrg. What happened during your interview that made you feel like you messed up?

When were you guys complete?

How do we check our application status? I don't see it on my MWU.net

Thanks and congrats to you! 🙂

I was complete June 29th, got my interview acceptance August 19th, and my official acceptance the 8th of October... and thanks! hopefully you'll be joining us next year!

Can anyone please enlighten about sending LORs? I read this on CCOM's website about requirements...

"The applicant’s full legal name and AACOMAS ID number must be on the front page of the recommendation. Please provide this information to the evaluator.
Letters must be sent directly from the evaluator and must be printed on letterhead stationary, which includes the complete contact information for the evaluator."

I have my letters on Interfolio, and sending them will probably won't have my AACOMAS ID number on the front. Has anyone sent the letters from Interfolio? And if so did you do anything special? Also although they request only 2 letters, is ok if I send 3?

I don't think I saw this specific instructions on LORs on AZCOM's website. Thanks.

so much for my super secret ninja mode approach 😉 :ninja:

and if i was talking about construction and my commute then yes it was me 😉

you are welcome. 🙂

sorry to hear about the alternate list...just remember i got off 🙂

mommy2three, how did you get off the alternate list? I'm on that list as well🙁. I called and tried to talk to an admission counselor, asking her what I did wrong and she told me that I didn't do anything wrong 😱 (why I ended up on that list then)... I really like CCOM and I will be very happy to attend

Can any recent interviewees please post the questions that they were asked? I am interviewing here soon and would like to know what kind of questions they ask. Ethical dilemmas? Situational questions? etc. etc.

Thanks a lot and good luck to everyone applying 🙂

She went to the masters program here.

Since that obviously doesn't apply to you here is what you should do.

#1 Keep doing well in whatever it is your doing (school, research, volunteering etc).
#2 If your application is weak in a certain area do your best to fix it or take steps to fix it.
#3 Keep the adcom updated with what your doing. Come spring time write them a letter telling them explicitly WHY you want to come to CCOM.

From there it is up to your diety of choice. Keep in mind the med school process is extremely random and don't take any rejections or wait lists personally. There was something like 5000 people who applied to CCOM last year, thus you did extremely well to get an interview.

Good luck👍

I just interviewed here on Tuesday. From what I can remember....

Why DO?

What do you think about the simulator you talked about in your secondary?

Describe an ethical conflict and how you dealt with it?

How do you deal with stressful situations?

What specialty are you interested in and why?

Describe a time where you had to work in a team environment?

Just know why you want to be a DO and know yourself and you'll be fine. I wasn't asked anything I haven't answered in 5+ secondary essays....

Good luck

And thanks to any of the other students that walked in and calmed us all down if any of you are on SDN!

thank you so much for your advices, TeamZissou 🙂

If you can scrounge up more good LORs, they can help as well. Just remember any independently submitted LORs need to be on official letterhead and snailmailed.

can I send the extra LORs through Interfolio?

Hey guys,

Do you think it's worth it for me to apply to this school, it being October and all? I really like it more and more as I learn more about it, and my application was sent and verified for awhile now, just not to CCOM (which I now wholeheartedly regret!).

My breakdown: 3.54 cGPA, 3.20 sGPA, 28Q (10PS 10VR 8BS); currently a research technician at a hospital in Boston.

again, grain of salt but i did what anyone i think would do in this situation

1 - i submitted an additional lor (from a doc i did some shadowing work with)
2 - i did some more shadowing work
3 - i submitted my grades after they were in for each quarter i completed
4 - i submitted a letter of intent
5 - i prayed

i should say that although i went to the master's program here it did not guarantee that i would get off the alternate list more than any other person on there. i was in the exact same boat as everyone else on the list and i did exactly what anyone else in that situation would have done

Hey ya'lll !
I was curious if anyone knew if CCOM was still giving out interviews before the new year or if they are all filled up?! Thanks!

I was complete 9/10 and haven't heard anything. 3.80/28 OOS - should I be worried? Should I call/email? I would absolutely LOVE to get an interview here.

I think, and this is purely speculation, that CCOM is doing things similarly to NSUCOM. That is, they sent out a lot of interview invitations very early to those they really liked and were complete early and took up a significant part of the calendar year with interviews already. Then they sifted through the remaining applications and sent out rejections to those they don't want to interview (as made evident with a lot of people being rejected a few pages back). If you didn't receive a rejection letter then they are probably still interested in you and you should receive an interview invitation as soon as they create more dates. At least this is what I'm hoping for, and it seems pretty logical. I'm in the same boat as you though. Good luck!

Those of you who interviewed in early october..when will we hear back approximately? Has anyone contacted admissions? I'm getting anxious!

Hey guys!
I was complete 9/23/2010 and just received an interview invite today. The dates available were 11/30 and 12/3! FYI
This school is amazing in every way possible!!!!! 🙂

Well for those of us who interview this past week, the woman running the interview day said she wasn't sure if the committee had met yet this month. She said they meet once a month, so if you interview early in the month you should be fine, because then you'll definitely have a decision this month. Those of us in the middle may have to wait longer, but she told us to call them if we don't get anything in the mail by the monday after Thanksgiving.

How'd the interview go?

Do you mind my asking, what were your stats?

Accepted applicant checklist just popped up for me! Does anyone know under the requirements 'Needed' what the 'Research Foundation-Proj' is? I'm assuming it's a general thing for everyone because I have no idea how that would relate to my application if it was a specific requirement for me.

Did you receive an email or did you just happen to be looking at the page?

Hmmm, seems odd because I thought the committee only met at the end of each month. My accepted student checklist has the following items:

Deposit ($1000)
Matriculation Agreement
Technical Standards Form
Required Transcripts
Required Prerequisits

I dunno what your checklist means. Could be a glitch, or you could be accepted! No clue.

Haha, that'd be a cruel glitch...hope that's not the case! My portal is showing all the same things as what you listed above. It's under the "Required Transcripts" that it lists the schools I've attended as well as "Research Foundation-Proj." My AZCOM accepted student checklist has that listed as well.

Also, at my interview day they told us that they weren't sure when the committee was meeting again. The lady running the day said that she had been out of town so she wasn't sure if they met while she was gone. So it sounded like when they meet is a little more random than just at the end of each month.

Hey all,

First time poster, havent really had anything to post thus far. I interviewed here on Oct. 19th and loved it. Just checked my status today on the MWU website, and I found the accepted student checklist!! Super fast turn around time, very impressed. Anyone else that interviewed on Oct. 19th that has heard back already?

Well, at my interview day the woman told us we can still check our status through the portal but we would only get actual notification through the mail.

So if like the other poster.. if the accepted student checklist is now there, with the contents you listed, should we assume we were accepted? Because my portal now has the list as well.

I interviewed 10/11 and my portal changed with accepted student checklist. The rotation sites seem amazing. I'm only a little bit scared that about 50% of the class fail an anatomy exam (not making this up, haha, I was asked how I'll deal with possible failure given this statistic at the interview).

Definitely. That's what excites me the most, the rotation sites. I was also asked about failure, though they didn't mention the anatomy part, and how would I deal with it.

Concerning anatomy though, and what may make you and all of us feel better: Two of the second year's that spoke to our group in the glass box told us that people failed because of misprioritization (not a word but whatever). It seems the year before the written exam was more difficult than the practical exam, so the class studied appropriately for a similar difficulty of exams only for them to be reverse. So maybe if one balanced their studies and didn't discount one, they would be more likely to pass. I liked the school a lot from interview day. The only downside IMHO is not having the curriculum systems based. The school definitely has great rotation sites that few other osteopathic schools have or at least in close proximity to the campus (not traveling to different states).

anyone who interviewed on 10/12 hear back yet? Seems like everyone else's status has changed..
