Interview invite! Only three choices for dates though, all within the same week :\

I almost hate to ask this cause it's asked so much but we wouldn't be pre-meds if we weren't neurotic and a little OCD. So do you mind telling us when you were complete?

I'll pm you.

Oh yea, I got an invite! I was little worried, but now i'm one step closer to my goal. Now time to celebrate. 😀.

To everyone that got interviews, congratz and good luck. But don't relax just yet. The interview process for CCOM is a pretty important part so make sure you guys know what your doing and what you have to say. Know your strength and weaknesses. But don't rehearse it to the point of memorization. They still want to see a little fear 😉

To those that have not yet received an interview invite, good luck to you too. I hope you get one soon! Don't give up and keep trying. One of the most important things they look for in medical school is how committed you truly are.

Just to put it in perspective: for class of 2015
Avg GPA: 3.5-3.6
Avg MCAT: 28

Good luck everyone. If you have questions, just ask. We'll be more than willing to answer. It is a somewhat stressful process, but don't fret too much.
^_^

So I called CCOM because it's been almost a month since I submitted my secondary, and they told me I was deferred 🙁 Same thing with AZCOM (since it's under the same university, that's why I'm mentioning) and I actually got a letter from them a couple days ago saying that I was "on hold for the interview as we have had 20,000(ish) applicants and want to see what our pool is like... take this as good news."

They tell me to take it as good news, but it's still a little nerve-wracking... what do you guys think who already go to CCOM? I have a 26 MCAT (not great) and 3.64 GPA, though I've gotten all A's the past year... I have a couple leadership positions in clubs. Do they interview deferred applicants way later in the process, like they save em all till March or so, or will I probably be deferred for just a couple weeks? This is my top choice!

20,000 applicants? really?

The numbers they gave to our class of 2015 was 6,000 applicants had applied in the cycle. So to put it in perspective, 30 people had competed for a single seat.

totally envisioning a very violent game of musical chairs...

omg thatd be hilarious if at the beginning of the interview they brought in 30 students to duke it out for 1 chair in musical chairs to show what the admissions process is like 😛...thatd definitely reduce the fear!

while this is true, they also only interview about 600 so if you get to ethe interview stage your chances are significantly improved

I am curious... everyone always posts their GPAs and they all seem so high to me. Do they take into considerationg what school you went to? or is it an all numbers game?

Surely a 3.3.5GPA from a big university has got to be valued more than a 3.6 from a community college. Right??? 😎

Unless it's one of the really big universities, my understanding has been that it doesn't really matter. Furthermore, your major is pretty much irrelevant. A 3.3 GPA in Neuroscience means less than a 3.8 in psychology.

well that sucks. I guess all that money in tuition was for nothing.

I'd like to think, at least people who live in snow are used to it? Snow + Atlanta traffic (where absolutely no one knows how to drive in the snow) is a nightmare...

for some reason, even people who have lived here (michigan, midwest) all their lives are still AWFUL at driving in the snow...makes no sense

lol!
imagine pushing someone off the chair to grab it for urself - causing that other person a bruised elbow/knee, and then standing up and declaring "i am the future DOCTOR!"

GASP! You mean the "Michigan Difference" I've been paying for is a sham?? :scared:

The major thing makes me super angry though. I'd have a 4 point too if I were an english major or something like that. At the Honors graduation, even the psychology dept. made a point to mention that Neuroscience was the most difficult out of Neuro, psych, and Brain/Behavior/Cognitive Sciences.

🙄

For anyone interested and fairly local, the Health Career Professions day is September 29th.

who knows, you may even get to meet sdn celebrities 😉

Anyone with Sept. 23 interview date need a ride to campus in the morning, I'll be driving in 🙂

So I applied to AZCOM initially (due to proximity to LA and family)...I got an interview invite and I decided to apply to CCOM and I was wondering if its appropriate to use the same essays and change out the name since the essays are the same and the curriculum and the main reasons are the same as I have been to chicago and love it there..I can change around the first essays (why CCOM) but I am having trouble on how to change up the why accept me since my original essay covered everything I wanted to...I was just wondering if CCOM can look at what I wrote for AZCOM and vice versa since they use the same system.

one of the gals in my masters class ended up at azcom and the ordering of things is slightly different but the basic curriculum is the same.

obviously, the rotation opportunities between the two are drastically different.

i think the basic framework should stay the same but you should definitely swap out some azcom info for some specific ccom info.

if you need help with the later, shoot me a pm

did anyone get into CCOM with a 24 mcat last year with a fairly high GPA (3.75 ish)? Thanks!

just wanted to wish those coming for interviews which start this friday the best of luck :luck::luck::luck::luck:

and i may see you there 😉

I was told there is one or two, but they were in the Master's program, so they had pretty good recommendation letters.

Like the other posters above, the higher the GPA is better, and most of the time, the school does not matter. In addition, there are some grade inflation in Ivy but that shows up after the calculation is made. However, if two applicants have similar GPA and MCAT, then the school will matter a bit.

To answer your question, I would say a 3.5 from a highly regarded university will matter more than a 3.6 from a local community college. But if you compare say a 3.3 to a 3.7, then it is less relevant.

How long did it take CCOM to upload everyone's LORS?

Hey guys I got an interview to AZCOM pretty quickly after my secondary was submitted but have heard nothing from CCOM. I submitted my secondary at the same time. Anyone know if this is pretty common? Thanks!

MY FIRST CHOICE SCHOOL...though my mcat score may not make the cut for CCOM..anxiously waiting for my retake score. ugh....everything else on my app is set, cept the mcat...so frustrating. 3.76 gpa, 3.70 sgpa, great extracurriculars, outstanding committee letter of recommendation.

Changed interview date! Anyone with Sept. 23 interview date need a ride to campus in the morning, I'll be driving in 🙂

+1

Just interviewed. Long day for a 30 minute interview. Overall not bad. People seemed to really like the school. The new facility is VERY nice. I was most excited to see how technology is being used in the cadaver lab. Hope they accept me. Felt like the interview went fine but not great. Fumbled a little on the 14 y/o asks for birth control question.

Monday interview anyone?

Did you call to change the date? I was scared to try to change it online because I thought I might lose my current date...

it is a long day i will grant you that.

i am sure you did fine, as long as you backed up your answer you will be okay

and it was nice to meet you 😉

i changed mine online when i had mine a few years ago. if you do it just rebooks you for yet earlier date.

there should be no need to physically call

If you try and change online, it does not kick you off you current date until you confirm the new date. But I called because when I thought to do it, I was not at a computer.

Thanks! I was able to move mine up to September 27th (from the end of October)! I'm so excited. Anyone else interviewing on that day?
