hey guys, do you think it would be silly to take both cell bio and evolution as summer classes (its a summer A class so about mid-may to end of june). i dont mind evolution im sure that class isnt very difficult, but i know cell bio is the basis for all biological processes and probably important to know for the DAT, so would it be dumb to rush the class in a little over a month rather than waiting to take it in the fall or spring? i also work about 20 hours a week. i know its possible im just wondering if you guys would think the classes being rushed and working would be more overbearing than taking maybe just one of them, and then an easier class like stats 2 or something. thanks 🙂

I don't think lower level science classes will be tough to follow during the summer.

Not exactly lower level at my UG and definitely not a joke. The class filled a 3.5" binder with 6 slides-per-page double-sided pages of Powerpoint notes. Guess it depends in the school's bio dept. Ask around and exercise caution before jumping in.

What textbook did you guys use?

Agreed. Cell bio at my school is an upper level class that isn't something to take lightly. We use "Molecular Cell Biology" by Lodish and the material we cover is dense. When my study group and I run through all the notes for 10 lectures, it takes us at LEAST 30 hours. With the professor I have, I think you're lucky if you can escape this class with a C :scared:

I wouldn't take two science classes in the same summer semester and work 20 hours a week. Can you take one in summer A and the other in summer B?

Yeah we have "Molecular Cell Biology" here too and it is an upper-level course. However we also have "Cell Biology" which is basically AP Biology all over again.

Yea, we only have the one class. As for the book, I don't remember what it's called because I didn't use it that often. I kinda just used it as backup for anything in the notes that wasn't clear. My cb was harder than my Ochem courses imo. Just a loose basis for comparison if that's even a meaningful way for me to do so.

Don't take 2 science class with 20 hour of work during summer. I don't think it's even a good idea to take 1 hard class+ 1 easy class while you are working.

im not sure which book ill use, i also know the cell bio professor has a horrible accent and basically doesnt teach so ill be teaching myself from the book/powerpoints. unfortunately he is also the same professor teaching it during the fall.

my other option could be taking cell bio summer A, and human anatomy summer C (all summer). what do you guys think about that? i always work during the year so i think i am decent at managing my time between work/classes.

Anatomy/physiology would be very helpful for the DAT!

Sorry to dig up an old thread but it's completely do-able because that's what I'm doing right now, I just finished evolution and recieved an A- (teacher didn't round up lol) I'm currently taking Cell bio right now and I find it to be easier rather than the semester system because you retain the information better since you're more focused on one class rather than 3 or 4, also when the final rolls around you will only have to remember information that was lets say 4 or 5 weeks ago in a summer semester rather than 3 months ago for a normal semester. Aiming for an A in cell right now. Best of luck OP
