will taking cell biology in my senior year of undergrad make med school easier? or should i take an easier biology class instead? i know the cell biology class is pretty intense which is why i would rather not take it unless it really helps me for med school courses. thanks.

My understanding is that your undergrad education is reviewed in about one week of class in med school, so I would say no...

In any case, the professors are probably going to go into much further detail than you will in undergrad, if only because they do research in the fields they're teaching.

Maybe take it pass fail? I took it as a soph (bad idea) and the class was full of seniors. I learned a lot and I would definitely recommend at least being exposed to it

I think the fact that it's intense is what will help you in medical school. Since med school classes go so much faster, knowing how to learn material at such a fast rate will help you in the future.

I've heard it is useful in terms of MCAT prep. 👍

I would take an easier class.

i dont know about medical school but i think it is a great class for mcat review

It's not necessary. Think about getting good grades. It's not a magical course that will reveal all the MCAT answers to you.

one semester cell bio course would help you about 2 weeks in med school.

do something fun and interesting instead of something to "help" you in medical school. nothing will really help you too much.

the struggle with medical school is the volume, not the content. youre not gonna run into anything that you cant wrap your head around.

I don't know if I agree with the general idea that an intensive upper level science class would be covered in a week of medical school. For example, my medical school offers waiver tests during orientation for the biochemistry and genetics classes. People do pass them and don't have to take these classes in medical school. Obviously their previous work covered more than one week in medical school if they're allowed to skip entire medical school classes.

The long story short here I guess is that an intensive class is probably more useful than a less intensive one, but also consider your personal circumstances. Will you be interviewing a lot? After you get accepted, do you think you would have trouble concentrating on a hard class? Etcetera.

it's not that the medical school will cover everything taht a upper level science class will cover in 2 weeks, it's just that I foudn my undergraduate science courses to go into a lot MORE detail than the medical school. so you are kind of studying more for medical school than needed... at least thats what happened for immunology and genetics.
