I got a certified letter today from an address I do not recognize addressed to Mr/Mrs. me, not Dr.

There is no name associated with the address written in chicken scratch so I did not open it.

I called the abpn to make sure it wasnt my certification and they said they send it in 10 weeks after the test by fedex.

I did not take or sign for the letter, nor do I remember the exact address.

Please advise! I am not expecting any certified letters.

Maybe I'm missing something. What would have been in the harm in accepting the letter? It was addressed to you. It just didn't say "Dr."?

It came to my home address.

I took care of it. I asked the post office for the address, I looked up the address and now I know what the issue is.

The contractors I paid for my roof ran away with my money without paying the subcontractors. The letter was from a subcontractor trying to get money.

Wow thats lame. Did they fix your roof?

You may need a lawyer - they could file a lien against your house.

They can lien my house as we have minimal equity and are not moving in the next 7 years.

Everything is complete, the roof, gutters, indoor painting.

Our deal was with the general contractor.

my limited understanding of the law is that you are responsible for the bill of the subcontractors.

I found out that there is no lien on my house.

If any lawyers come after me I will complain to the attorney general and let them handle it.

It's just money. There are worse things.

Shouldn't the subcontractors just be going after the contractors? They were hired and had a contract with them, not you, correct?

Like the above, I still don't get why opening the letter and reading it wasn't the first step instead of making a thread.

I wasn't sure as a psychiatrist to be leery of the certified letter as it may have been from a patient with my home address.
