Certiphi and Traffic Violations

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
will expunged and dismissed misdemeanors come up on certiphi? i have had a lawyer check my record to see if it comes up and it doesn't but idk if certiphi will be able to see more?

Because I got my background check back and it didn't have any employment verification (and I've earned a paycheck for ten years).

Here's what it did have: name; date of birth; Social Security number; current address; other addresses; the results of searches in: the sex offender registry, county criminal records (felony and misdemeanor), federal criminal records (felony and misdemeanor), state criminal records (felony and misdemeanor), and the national criminal database; and whether you are an excluded party with respect to the HHS Office of Inspector General or the General Service Administration.

Do you think it's the same for when applying to residency?

maybe i can clarify - certiphi is capable of checking for employment history, but the med schools don't ask certiphi to do it. its not part of the procedure.

there are like 50 things certiphi can check for, but amcas schools only ask for a define 6 or so that were listed in this thread.

What about when it comes to applying for residency on the ERAS and NRMP? I thought that on both, they didn't ask for nonclinical or mentor work experience such as working part-time at a retail store or whatever you did during college or high school. Is that true?

Does anyone know when in January do accepted applicants receive the BGC email from Certiphi?

At this point, I'd recommend you contact the AAMC directly.

Let me clarify...you were going nearly 30 mph over the speed limit and it is Georgia's fault you got in trouble???

May I kindly suggest you take responsibility for your actions rather than blaming others.

This. Sorry, but nearly 30 MPH over, that is going to be considered reckless driving in most places.

Yeah, same....the neurotic side of me is wondering what's going on.

🙂 Now that there's two of us, I feel better.

And yeah, it's probably just school to school variation.

Kinda surprised that both schools I got into and two other schools I got waitlisted from didn't ask for one yet when so many have received a notice....

Are you able to order your own copy of Certiphi before you apply through AMCAS? As far as I know, you can only request your own copy after primaries, and if you accidentally did not disclose something, isn't it too late at that point?

Frankly,I suspect that unless you've forgotten a night in jail or have forgotten about needing to have a lawyer represent you in a criminal matter, nothing is going to show up on a Certiphi that could get your offer of admission pulled. (Academic misconduct is a different beast.)

Thank you LizzyM. You have no idea how valuable you are to this community, putting so many of our minds at ease.

Am I the only one who hasn't heard anything from Certiphi?

I haven't been contacted by Certiphi, either (I have an acceptance, as well).

Thank you LizzyM. The reason I ask is because I've been in several car accidents, but never been ticketed for any of them (not even traffic tickets). I did not show up to court for any of my cases either, but I did hire a lawyer for all of them. I was not planning on saying I've had any criminal charges, so hopefully none of this shows up on my Certiphi.

Also, idk if this matters much, but I recently became a US citizen, and I had a background check done. I guess if the country says its okay for me to live here, we can extrapolate and say med schools will let me enroll too? I feel like I would have known if something serious had shown up on my record.

am I still the only person with an acceptance who has heard NOTHING from Certiphi?

Same situation here! I'm guessing some schools may still be catching up from the break and not worrying about Certiphi yet?

Some schools don't use Certiphi and some schools won't be sending out background checks for a couple of months, so don't worry.

Got the background check notice just a few minutes ago for those of you wondering if anyone received it who did not initially receive it last week....

Got mine on the 6th, anyone know if we really need to list all our addresses since birth? I did a federal government background check for my job and they only asked for last 5 years. I have moved around a lot growing up, like every year.. , its gonna take me a little bit to dig up all these addresses. Also, anyone know is there a deadline to get this completed? I've been putting it off these last few days, just want to make sure its not like a week or something and my admissions is going to be rescinded :scared::scared:

Just so no one else gets freaked out by a longer than usual wait time, my background check took four days. My record is completely clean. I've never even had so much as a speeding ticket. I think the hold-up was having to go through two state's registries. One of those states had a weird, fax-only release I had to submit. There also may be more of a bottleneck as more applicant are submitting to Certiphi for background checks. Anyway, just a heads up so no one gets too nervous.

I had a similar problem, and this is what someone advised:

Just list what you know. I'm guessing their check will probably turn up the address and they'll add it themselves. When I got mine back for some reason they added a few addresses which were just duplicates of ones I had already entered because they were typed slightly different (APT B vs Apartment B etc).

They need the addresses to know what counties/states you've lived in to know what databases to check.

I ended up being able to locate the one address I couldn't remember using google maps, but the above poster was right... one of my addresses was "corrected" by Certiphi. If nothing else, you could always call them up to ask.

Was just starting to freak out because it's been 4 days since I submitted mine. I'm curious to know if it's taking this long for everyone this year or is it just me? :/

yea i've been accepted to 2 schools and havent gotten an email from certiphi yet.

but as has been said before, the earliest med schools can request a CBC is jan. they can request later on, and certiphi isn't doing anything until they make their request. so it is what it is. this should be illustrated by some of you guys receiving the initial CBC request on different days.

figured i'd poke my head in being that i am the threadstarter ha.

I did call and ask, and they told me there were no rules about how far back I had to go. It seems very odd, but they figured it out, for the most part, and found addresses I didn't include. Don't be deceptive, but don't stress too much.

I actually found out that one of my schools said I should have gotten the email on Jan 5, when they sent me a reminder asking me to reply to the request, but it didn't show up in my inbox until Jan 13, when I had already called Certiphi and gotten the information I needed to start the check over the phone. I checked my spam religiously and didn't miss anything there, so I really don't know why it took so long for me to get the email.
