just took my pcat today and got 93 composite (low va and rc both within 20-40. 99 on chem and math)

graduated last year from uc with around 3.15 overall gpa. about 3.0-3.1 sgpa. i think.

pharmacy tech for 6 months now and volunteering at medical clinic (more like pharmacy) for low income ppl for about 1.5 years (150+hours j think)
also did volunteer at radiology department in medical center fr 4 months during undergrad.

did dental office volunteers too but since i chose pharmacy as my career goal i guess i will not write this??

anyways this is pretty much it.

i was going to apply 15-20 schools cuz i know i had less chances but with high pcat score an my below average gpa and experience..will i land somewhere ?

please chance me both in ca and oos!

Your GPA is not THAT bad... A GPA over 3.0 is considered good, especially cause I have seen people with lower GPAs get into pharmacy school. The fact that you got a 93 PCAT will also increase your chances. I don't think you need to apply to 20 schools... Apply to 10 (at most). You got a good chance! (unless you majored in something easy...) I wouldn't write that you volunteered in a dental office, but thats my opinion, just because it might bring the wrong type of questions in the interview.

You have a good shot of getting into an interview and getting accepted but you have to be selective and reasonable to where you apply (so research). For California you are gonna have a more difficult time since a lot of the schools have a 3.0 gpa cut off so you are gonna expect higher average gpas. Good luck in applications and you are gonna get in somewhere with that good pcat.

can you guys tell me some low-mid tier schools that i actually have shot at?
I am going to apply around 6-7 schools in CA (most except 1-2). Hoping that could land in somewhere.
and maybe 5-6 OOS.

You can most likely get an interview from the University of Georgia if you are interested in applying there. I'm from CA and going there for fall 2014. Anyways, basically with your GPA, PCAT, and experience I will say you have a good chance of getting an interview there though airfare is expensive.

And a couple of my friends are going to VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) from California so that can also be an option.

Thanks! can you guys recommend me some more schools that I actually have higher possibility of getting interviews?

Besides CA schools, I am thinking about
Roseman
MCPHS
Pacific univ oregon
Midwestern arizona, chicago
midwestern chicago
rosalind franklin

what do you guys think?

it is not that hard to get into midwestern arizona you would probably get an interview offer and get readily accepted.

If you dont mind me asking, how did you go about studying for the PCAT? I take mine in September and im starting to think that the Kaplan book ive been studying isnt best for preparing me.

try reading "post your preliminary score" thread in PCAT discussion. many people and i put tips and how to study thing!
I mainly used Dr.collins and used pearson 3 practice tests. I have kaplan book but only used for biology section and their online practice exams.
Did not even look at one single page other than bio lol

hey kies did u get in anywhere? i have low gpa should i retake my poor bio classes or take new higher lvl bio classes and get bio degree. BUT high lvl bios not req by pharm school

I think @kies89 got into pretty much everywhere he finished applying to and ended up choosing UCSF.

Depends how bad you did in those bio classes and what classes they were.

yeah I got interview invites from every school I applied. So with low GPA you still have high chances of getting in somewhere.
If your GPA is around 3.0, I would just focus on your PCAT ( and spend extra time on your application and essays). Goodluck!

Hi kies! I'm looking to apply to pharmacy school this upcoming cycle and could use your advice. I have a 3.15 cgpa but i predict it will drop to 3.0 once Pharmcas does all its calculations (i did repeat one class). My composite pcat score is only 78. I'm from California and completed my undergrad studies at a UC school if that weighs in to anything. Do you think I have a chance at a California school? How about an out of state school? If so, which schools do you recommend I apply to? Thanks!! 🙂
