Here's the catch. I only very recently became interested in podiatry and have only job shadowed a podiatrist one time.

Here's the other catch. I have almost literally done nothing of value since I graduated during the Spring of last year (2011). I happen to come from a pretty wealthy background, so I haven't even needed to get a job. I've basically been living with my gf, reading books, playing video games, learning the guitar ect... for the past 17 months.

I have all the basic cookie cutter EC's like volunteering at a hospital, some tutoring, an internship at Pfizer, volunteering at wheelchair tennis league.

My question is, if I apply by January/February and secure an LOR from a pod, do you think I get get into a school like Scholl or DMU? Or will my seemingly aimless life for the past year and half and only recent interest in podiatry be a red flag?

Thanks

99% because of your MCAT. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

99% you'll get into a DO also because of MCAT

If your already wealthy than why go to school? A lot of wealthy people don't go to school or dropped out of school. School only offers the potential to make a good living, the key word their is potential, however in the real world, which you may haven't experienced yet since you've never held a job, the real world is uncertain and not guaranteed, it's filled with obstacles and challenges. Only go into the the field if your truly passionate about it. This is another 7-8 year commitment of your life, so be sure this is what you want to do. I would consider your post to be a red flag.

Maybe he doesn't want to sit on his butt for the rest of his life, mooching off of his parents, "living with his gf, reading books, playing video games, learning the guitar ect". If I was wealthy I would still have a career, or else I would die of boredom. At least if he doesn't make it he has money to fall back on, unlike the rest of us.

A friend of mine(my fiance's brother in law, not sure what that makes us) and his siblings inherited a ton of money from their uncle. But his uncle made a clause for them; they could only access the money if they get a college degree. One of them is an MD, another is in pharm school, another has a masters in english, I believe. My friend was the lazy one and did a Bachelor's in accounting lol. I think it just depends on how you want to live your life.

You will need to shadow more to get an lLOR. Also for the interview you will need to come up with why yo you want to go into podiatry, but with those stats something will bite.you might want to work on your personal statement our hire some one to write it for you

You will be fine just fine with your stats, OP.

My point I do want to pose is to are you sure this is what you want to do? As long as you are sure you want to do this it is a fantastic profession and your stats will definitely get you in to wherever you wish to go.

I would recommend continuing to shadow the podiatrist to gain more shadowing experience. Other that that, you will be fine.

Best of luck!

Your MCAT makes you a really good applicant, however, I know that DMU's class is filling up quickly. In our facebook group there is already ~30/50 spots. So if you wait until February, you might be out of luck. Who knows though.

Good luck!

You're on the ball, if not over the ball. Podiatry averages are way lower on the MCAT, and since it's not too competitive, you're fine.....go for it!

Based on stats you will probably get in but do more field exploration and make sure this is what you want to do for the rest of your life. While tuition money may not be an issue for you, wasting 4 years to figure out that this isn't your passion will just suck. During the interview they may question your motivations and you better give a well thought out answer, and believe it too.

Best of luck.
