What are my chances of getting into any dental school; should I even apply this cycle? I`m graduating this year with the following stats:

oGPA: 3.2
sGPA: 3.1

DAT: (Retaking this june)
PAT: 21
QR: 21
RC:19
Bio: 22
GC:22
OC:20
TS:20
AA:21

My shadowing hours are low, its about 60hrs in a general dentist office, but I`m taking the year off and continuing with the shadowing. I`ve also done some random dental volunteering events that happen annually.

I have done 2 years of research and have a publication in a student journal.

My GPA has an upward trend. I started my freshman year with a 2.8 oGPA. But still I feel that my GPA is too low to be salvaged. What schools are reasonably in my range- or should I even apply at all this cycle?

I don't know what you're talking but you're stats are fine. I don't think you need to retake the DAT. GPA is a bit low but you should still get interviews if you apply broadly.

Isn`t the average gpa of applicants around 3.5? I don`t think my DAT was superb enough to salvage my weak GPA. I also don`t have too much shadowing experience.

Am I really being too pessimistic about my stats?

Take a look at the Official Interview/Acceptance/Rejection Thread. I don't think its worth it to retake the DAT unless you're confident that you can get a 23+. Is there anything you can do to raise your GPA if you take a year off?

Doing a masters or some post grad program is one of my least desires. I`ve taken so many units during my undergrad that getting an A raises my GPA just ever so slightly. I really hope to do things in extracurricular terms to bolster my application. I`m hoping its enough for me.

This site sorta reminds me of college confidential...

You should still apply. I believe you have a shot of some of the private schools given your stats. NYU, BU, Tufts, both Midwesterns, Roseman, etc. I would, however, suggest taking a few post-bacc upper level science courses in the meantime in case you do not receive anything in the upcoming cycle.

No need to retake. Apply early. Trust me 😀

Hm, thanks for all the input guys. I really don`t want to enroll in a masters but this definitely gave me the confidence to apply. I`ll definitely apply as early as I can.

Apply this cycle but look into masters programs, just in case. Personally, I think you should be ok if your PS, extracurriculars and shadowing hours are above average.
