Been invited to interview at nova in early october. Have lower stats with 3.4 GPA Mcat is a few points below there average also. I do have above average EC'S and nice recommendations. I am an OOS applicant. Is there a good chance of getting accepted at this school since getting an interview and the fact that im OOS?

No. OOS = automatic rejection.

But really, there is a statistic floating around here saying that 400/600 interviewees get acceptance offers. That includes people off the WL.

Unfortunately, no one, especially on SDN, can give you an answer to this.

Didn't you state that Nova told us that when we interviewed?? Where did this statistic come from? And I know people have stated on here that it includes the WL but once again where did this info come from?

28+ mcat will get you...NOVA likes applicants with high mcat score.

If it eases your nerves, my class (2016) has a bunch of people from OOS.

Nail the interview and you'll get an acceptance 😛

Nope, never said that.

Aw man! Looks like I have some competition now lol!

Earlier in the thread someone posted that they interview only about 600 people out of about 4100 applicants, and accept about 400 out of that 600. So an interview is a really good thing at this school. Don't stress too much! We have interviews at an awesome school with plenty of time to prepare for it, that's all that matters!

Students at my interview gave this statistic and if I remember correctly the admissions counselor agreed.

So.... you did claim that Nova said that..... Perhaps I was assuming you stated that you heard it in the interview or I got you confused with someone else, but you stated that Nova gives out those numbers........

So, once again where did those numbers come from? Are you just repeating information that is given by others through anecdotal evidence????????

To make things more clear, maybe you didn't understand what I was eluding to, can more than just one person verify these numbers???

MedPR was simply reiterating something that Dmr6186 stated, which apparently came from applicants, supposedly confirmed by an admission counselor. Sounds like telephone game but I do not have a firm answer either confirming or refuting this claim of 2/3 acceptance. I can tell you that when I was applying, I was also under the impression that most people that interview at Nova do in fact get accepted... eventually. Thus, this would technically support the claim/rumor, although the exact percentage is difficult to calculate because DO schools do not typically release that sort of information. That's why you have anecdotes here on SDN made by applicants who interview and somehow come across this statistic. If it is indeed 400/600, then it must include those from WL because people obviously decide to go elsewhere and no school is going to accept that many outright following an interview.

Don't get too caught up in the numbers. All we can really say for sure is that if you get an interview, there is a high chance of you getting accepted. Getting the interview is the hard part. That really applies to any school- they can't interview most applicants.

Yeah, I don't think that there is anything wrong with anecdotes, assuming that they are kept within context. I was merely wondering if others could support the same. I'm def. going to Nova next year and already cancelled all of my other interviews at allo schools because I really liked the set up at Nova.

Hopefully we'll meet next year and you can give me the do's/don'ts there

They've already starting sending out acceptances?

I feel really confident that I will receive an offer soon!!!!!!👍🙂

Canceling your other interviews at MD schools was pretty gutsy. You must really feel confident about Nova. When did you interview?

interviewed last Tuesday with gb85 and medpr... It's worth to me because that is where my fam is. My wife and I are ready to go back home... It sucks being in NYC so far away from family

True. I am only a 4 hour drive to family so it is not too bad. LECOM-B would have been closer but I made the choice that I thought was best for me. So far I have zero regrets.

If you accept the offer when will you be moving down here?

My family is in Miami but my wife's family is in Naples. Therefore, we said it would be better for us to live near her family to help with the baby. That means I'll be driving across aligator alley everyday (I made it an hour and 10 min).... we'll see. Do you know of anyone who commutes from far away?

You'll be commuting an hour to and fro from school.....everyday!!?!?!?

Dude....lets think about this.

2 hour daily commute. Lets suppose that you only study on the weekdays. That's 10 hours of the day you're driving that you could instead be studying. Can you maybe get your fam to move from naples to davie/broward area?

Ehh, I would highly advise against that. You're not going to get here in an hour and 10 minutes, I can guarantee that! Traffic here is a pain in the ass. Trust me you do not want to have to commute close to two hours the morning of an exam, because if the exam starts at 8 am and you try to walk through the door at 8:01 am, you're screwed. Automatic zero on the exam. There was a woman in her 40s in my class that commuted from West Palm area and she said it was an incredible pain. I haven't seen her since second week so I don't think she is with us any longer. I doubt it had much to do with her commute, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had a small part in it.

Are your parents unable to help with the baby? Miami is obviously a lot closer to Nova than Naples. There are family services on campus that you might want to consider before jeopardizing your medical career simply due to where you live in relation to the school.

Naples to Davie is not an hour. More closer to 1.5 to 2. Either way, not a smart idea Traffic here is a pain in the ass.

I have an interview here in December. Do you think I would get in with a 33P and 3.1sgpa and 3.3cgpa? everything else is good in my app.

I would really rather go to nova instead of LECOM. If it comes right down to it, it would be worth throwing $1500 at LECOM just to secure a spot somewhere and then (fingers crossed) go to nova instead. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long to hear back.

Depends on your interview...hence the reason why you need to be interviewed before you are accepted.

Lord knows where I'll end up for school, but I will spend exorbitant amounts of money to avoid commuting.

My body is not ready.

Yes sir.I was looking for you during the tour and then I remembered that you were not there. Perhaps if we attend the same school we can grab a beer next time and talk a bit.🙂

What year is that data from??? It is probably outdated.

Honestly it probably hasn't changed much. Oddly enough the people I have met and have become friends with are mostly OOSers.

Gee thanks! Way to throw us all under the bus!

But seriously, the Florida people I have met are in my class are really nice too. Then there are moments on gameday Saturdays when we all jokingly hate each other's guts. It's great. 😀

Ha ha ha! Nothing like rubbing salt in a wound. Lol

Yeah, and there is also this: ufrejects.com . Click on that and see where that takes you (for now at least, before someone at FSU gets pissed and gets it taken down).

There's an old joke for UF and FSU undergrad that goes:

Q: What do FSU and UF students have in common?

A: They both got into FSU.

I'm sure they have some for us, but I haven't heard any.

You know what's funny, I clicked the link and then I was like so what? It takes me to the FSU website. Then I was like, ohhhh!
🙂 😀
