hey ppl,
I'm a U.S. citizen IMG (caribbean). step 1 201, step 2 224 on second attempt, cs passed on first attempt. I applied to a variety of programs in all regions for PMR and prelim IM on sept 15th. No interviews yet so far. should i be worried?? wht are my chances of gettin interviews for PMR and prelim IM.
Thx.

Interview cycle is just starting. Your scores are not great--I hope you casted a big net application-wise. The only thing you can do at this point is to start contacting programs (program coordinator). Ask them if they "need any information to complete your file". While you are doing this tell them you are really interested in their program for this or that reason... If they have already reviewed your file, request that it is given a second look. Try to contact someone at the program who you know or who went to your school. In other words, try to network and get some interest generated in your application. Checking your email a dozen times a day is not going to get you more interviews... Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I definitely casted a BIG net.

I do not intend to burst your bubble, but a great deal of programs I applied to (40ish) required passing of USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 on first attempt. Additionally, I advice that with your scores you apply to many prelim surgery programs. Prelim IM programs are difficult to acquire and typically select applicants with higher scores (230s/240s). I wish you best of luck for this match!

Agree with above. With your stats, 2-3 excellent recommendation letters, some research, extra curricular activity and PM&R elective time you might get 10-12 (mid to low tier program) interviews if you applied to 30-40 programs. Without great letter, electives etc you might get 4-6 interviews. Its good that you applied early. In the meanwhile if you are passionate about PM&R continue to do PM&R related extra curricular activities, make connections, try to attend the AAPM&R conference etc. Your best bet will be NYC programs so make connections in those programs.
Prelim IM and transitional programs are very competitive. So I wont be surprised if you only get 2-3 interviews after applying to 20 programs. Apply to prelim surgery as well. Because of your red flags (IMG, low USMLE, multiple attempts) the last thing you want is not to match into an internship. PM&R is fairly competitive now so you could apply to IM or FP as a backup, just remember not to mention that during your interview.

Hi All

I am a canadian IMG (SGU)
I applied on sep 15th to about 40 PM&R programs as well as IM prelim.

step 1: 234
step 2: 231
- both passed on 1st attempt
GPA:3.8

I have no PM&R interviews yet.
Not sure if its because my LOR's arent in yet or because im Canadian (therefore need a Visa) or bc im an IMG

anybody have any advice ?

gotta have a complete packet first--ie. letters of rec

Hello everybody,
I am 2012 US graduate, out of cycle. Did not match last season. Applied early (9/15) and broadly, but so far only 1 invite. Step 1 (198), Step 2 (200). Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you are a US grad with step 1 >215 your odds of matching are greater than 50% assuming the rest of your application is up to par and you don't blow the interview. A stronger CV and interview compared with you peer group of applicants will put you well above 80% if you apply broadly.

If you are an IMG remember that 50% of IMGs fail to match. You need higher than a 215 step one score to have a reasonable chance of matching. A stronger CV and interview compared with you peer group of applicants will put you above 50% if you apply broadly.

Odds are difficult to predict and anything you can do to put a positive and unique emphasis on yourself will help.
