I am a fourth year DO student at a CA school looking to apply ACGME FM, ideally in CA. Was wondering what my chances at matching in CA are? I am in the top quartile in my class. All high pass and honors on my 3rd year clerkships. Taking COMLEX level 2 and Step 2 soon. No red flags in pre-clinical years. Below average board scores: COMLEX level 1: 498 & Step 1: 207. Really hoping to improve on my step 2 and level 2. Any advice or input is much appreciated!

it's California. that's the problem.
most US seniors want to match here.
most US seniors from CA medschools want to match here.

So even FM, which most will consider not competitive becomes a hot commodity.
and there are less FM spots vs IM spots, so that's another problem.

i got matched to my 2nd CA choice with a 246 score.
What i didn't have, during my application was strong ties with california
i'm from the east coast and competing with a lot of University of California seniors ( UCLA,UCSF, UCIrvine, a few more)
