Hi! Based on your stats I think you should definitely focus on getting good GRE scores as that's as important as your GPA is. Also, your pre-req GPA is pretty important and it looks a little low right now- is there any way you can retake a class or two to raise it? Good luck!

I agree with kabobberz!
Focus on boosting the pre-req GPA if you can and doing well on the GRE. It sucks to retake classes but it can have a huge impact. You can retake them as you are applying. Get organized and do your research early about class offerings/sending transcripts.
You seem like an awesome OT candidate - great resume/extracurricular activities!!

My stats in case you are curious...my undergrad GPA (BA in Exercise Science) was a 3.3 and my pre-req GPA was a 3.9. I retook two classes after my undergraduate education to boost my pre-req GPA. I didn't do particularly well on the GRE (scores: 3.5 AW, 142 Q, 155 V).

I'd encourage you to spend a lot of time working on your personal statements and fostering relationships with those that will write your recommendations. I think that really helped me - I lacked confidence in my applications because of my GRE scores and average GPA! I got into some programs that I wasn't expecting to (I'll be attending a program ranked in the top #15) and rejected from ones I thought I would for sure get accepted to. Apply to a wide range of schools!!

Here are my stats.. I’m very nervous about not getting in somewhere, can anyone tell me where I am standing with everything?

Undergrad: Minnesota state university, Mankato.
Major: interdisciplinary studies (which is a major with three disciplines); communication disorders, psychology, and health science; community health education.
Overall GPA: 3.74
Pre-req GPA: 3.9-4.0, I have one more class to take this summer.
GRE: taking in about a month

Volunteer experience: children’s museum, Mayo Clinic hospital volunteer (in the therapy department as a volunteer aide), miracle league coach (people who have disabilities on a softball team), VINE adult community center (pool class instructor, fitness center, and respite center for people with dementia), girls on the run volunteer, LEEP ( special olympics), nursing home volunteer (hanging out with the residents), and habitat for humanity volunteer

Extracurricular activities: alpha chi omega (sorority), gamma sigma alpha (honors above 3.5), order of omega (honors above 3.0), pre OT club, serve club

Work; front desk/ aide for a physical therapy clinic, front desk for prairie river home care agency, and children’s museum worker.

Observation hours: 25 inpatient hospital, about 20 in assisted living, 10 in pediatric, and about 10 in home care setting.

Should I be getting more observation hours? A lot of people I’ve read have hundreds and I’m not sure how much to reach for as I have about 65 right now.

Hey I think you have a really strong application! I would just make sure you have strong GRE scores (strive for mid-150s at least per section and a high writing score) and I would also try to get more observation hours! I personally had around 300 hours; it also just helps you get more acclimated to the field, so it def can’t hurt! But other than that, I think your chances are great! Just apply to a range of schools too to up your chances of getting in somewhere! Best of luck!

Try to get at least as close to 100 observation hours as possible! Schools say they don’t have a requirement but the average of people who aren’t techs or aides is usually around 100

Heyo!!
I think you are for sure a strong applicant!! Also side note I was an Alpha Chi Omega at a University on the West Coast :)
In the beginning it is easy to think "What if I don't get in anywhere?!"...as you get farther along in the process you'll realize you are in fact a good applicant. Half the battle is getting organized enough to apply and submitting a totally complete application. Your stats on paper are fantastic! My cumulative undergrad GPA with a BA in Exercise Science was like a 3.2 and pre-req GPA a 3.9-4.0 (depending on the program). I did average on the GRE. I worked on my personal statement for like 5-6 months and had fantastic recommendations. Put time into your statements/supplemental essays and foster the relationships with those who'll be writings your recs. I got acceptances, waitlists, rejections my 1st year applying...I'll be attending an OT program this Fall I truly didn't think I'd get into!! Be confident!!! You are on the right path.
