Chances to get in after interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Depends on the school. The RVUCOM thread states that interviewees matriculated at about 75-80%, which is pretty high. Some schools, like TouroCOM screen out people at secondary level, so if you get a secondary there is a good chance you will get an interview and a high probability of getting accepted. I would imagine that high demand schools like CCOM and PCOM have lower interview to acceptance ratios, but I can't back that up with numbers.

Chances of acceptance are about 50% post-interview at TCOM.

Isn't touro'a presecondary screen just a 3.0/24 minimum?

I'm uncertain what the pre secondary screen is, but from last year's forum it seems like they put a lot of weight on MCAT score and they do not offer as many secondary invites as other schools. This cuts down the applicant pool, thereby increasing your chances of acceptance if offered an II. The $200 secondary fee also cuts down on the number of people who complete the application, which further decreases the applicant pool.

right they're also late in the application cycle (no secondaries yet!) so a lot of students who applied to them for Primaries will have other interviews and possibly acceptances by then

I've been kind of tweaking out about this recently. Cash is running low due to some unexpected expenses in the last few days and I'm having to tighten the belt on travel because of it. If an applicant were to have 2 of their top choice II's in September and 2 in October (provided they don't bomb the interview) would it be wise to maybe push a few more out to mid-November/early December? Or is it best to bite the bullet and try to save some cash other ways and go to the interviews ASAP?

go with your instincts, of which would tell you to keep the course. pushing it back means further drawing out the process, generating more angst if any at all. Plus you don't want to get out of that mode. Any way you can put it on your card or at worst borrow a bit from your family? I'm sure they'll be more than elated when they realize their investment paid dividends in the form of an acceptance.

If you get an interview at a DO school, the acceptance is yours to lose.

Getting an interview is not a sure thing for admittance. You see only 2-3 people at the interview and then a whole Committee gets to ask them questions about you. Hope they remember all the good things and not the question I might have choked on.

Is that for Touro CA too? Or just the NY branch..?

Not necessarily. For example, the Touro's commonly interview people with mid 20's mcat, but seem to mostly waitlist or reject them.

I thought Touro's had a heavy secondary pre-screen?

So all three Touro's screen heavily pre-secondary?

So the fact I got a secondary from Touro-CA should mean I should most likely get an interview?

Not sure if all three pre-screen around secondaries. I did receive a secondary from Touro-CA the last cycle, but I don't know what their cut offs are (I did not receive an interview). I did not apply to Touro-NY, so I can't say anything there. I still think your chances are good.

I remember two people on this forum that made it past KCUMBs secondary pre-screen and both had interviews.

Not always though, ie ATSU soma only had a 40% post admission acceptance rate, so even if you have a ii there, chances are you're still more likely than not to be rejected. Which sucks (I have a ii there.) Am I being too negative? I'll see myself out...
