What are the chances to get in with a 27R(PS-10, VR-9, BS-8) and where should I look to apply with a 3.97 overall GPA and pretty much a 3.99/4.00 BCPM gpa?

I have Florida Residency and I am definitely applying to the Florida schools but wanted to know what my chances are and also suggestions on other out of state schools.

Im planning to retake the MCAT on July 8th though

With a low MCAT and about average ECs, I wouldn't count on getting accepted to any out of state schools. Anything can happen though, so it wouldn't hurt to apply to some lower tier private schools.

You have 2 new schools opening up in fl, i would apply to them and every other state school in fl. OOS will be tough, look through MSAR and look for OOS friendly schools. I would definately retake, because you have a nice gpa

The 27 is around the average for NOVA, Florida's DO school. That and maybe FSU are your best shot.

how much does the personal statement really matter vs GPA/MCAT and overall stats, obviously the application as a whole is important and each section holds its own weight but what would you all say as far as the personal statement and EC's go?

Depends on the school. Your personal statement matters a whole lot. It puts a face on your application and determines if you're worth their time. If your EC's are relevant and well-integrated with your personal statement, and hopefully your letters of rec, then they will be helpful very much in that regard.

A 27 is a reasonable shot for admission to med school. A 23? I really haven't heard of that working out, except on rare situations with nontraditional apps.

You're quite a bit below average. I'd say your chances are slim right now, but thankfully you can change all that in one day.

hey hey!
i got a 27 too. I'm thinking about applying to some MD schools as well...but have no clue which places might be kind to a "6" in PS.
I'm willing to move to Florida for a shot at FIU's new MD program.
and if i miss out on them...then at least ill be eligible for in-state tuition at Nova and LECOM-B.
It's like shooting for the moon and landing amongst the stars...

id suggest 32 for a sure-thing acceptance by december. I am basing that off the national averages of accepted students at US MD programs.
no doubt you can get in with less though.
most schools look at more than just numbers these days anyways. It might come down to your interview skills, ECs, and LORs (some even have URM status in their favor--like myself). Are those things all good to go?

Do the very best you can. If you're getting 10's or better in all sections, then you've got a respectable shot just about anywhere.

And Matt, there's no such thing as a sure thing. People with mid-30's MCAT and good GPA's get turned away all the time. But yeah, a 32-33 will certainly help. But it's far from the deal-closer.

With the new and existing FL schools, you may be accepted with your current scores. I agree that nobody is a sure thing when it comes to getting into Medical School, but you'd be very competitive with an MCAT of 32+ and a near-perfect BCMP.

I also agree that, with your current MCAT scores, you're not very competitive for OOS schools.

My advice for now (with the MCAT as is): apply to all FL schools and select private schools. From your list, keep Jefferson, Drexel and Wake. Consider adding: RFUMS, NYMC, Tulane, GW, Albany, Saint Louis, Loyola and MC Wisconsin.

Eliminate: MSU, Temple, UIC, U of MN, Vandy, Wayne and Tufts.

This is assuming your current stats. Your MCAT scores are too low for all OOS public schools. Vandy is very selective. Tufts probably receives close to 10K applicants and has an average MCAT score close to 32.

Use the money you save to add DO schools if you think that's a route for you. Some very well respected ones: PCOM, CCOM, Des Moines, MSUCOM, NYCOM... am I missing any? Your MCAT will be about average there. A high GPA will make you stand out from the pack.

Even though you GPA rocks, it's going to be hard to find any love with that school outside your state. However, as someone mentioned earlier, you have the potential to change that in just one day (well one day with a bunch of preliminary studing). If I were you, I'd go ahead and roll the dice at your state school(s) and the DOs (if you're interested in going that route) while simultaneously preparing to retake the MCAT; with a GPA like yours, I'm guessing all it's going to take a bit more practice before you bend that bitch over and do it dirty.

Allopathic schools still have an advantage over Osteopathic schools in terms of research opportunities, Residency opportunities, etc. Especially the upper tier of Allopathic schools. That said, the difference between the two is slowly diminishing. If you're given the opportunity to attend an Allopathic school in the US, you should take it. If not, there's nothing to be skeptical about as it related to attending an Osteopathic school. It would be better to attend a DO school than Caribbean, as you're still a US graduate.
