So I'm only a sophomore in my undergrad, but hit a little bump freshman year when I joined ROTC.

I had a 3.2 GPA last year, because my grades dropped when I joined ROTC second semester, and because of a horrible prof in my pre calc course (yet I got an A in calc... go figure).

So bio 1/chem 1, both a B+. Eh. Bio/Chem2 both C+. Then I decided I wanted to be a doctor and left the army.

So here I am, expecting an B+/A- in orgo, same for physics, A/A- in my other two courses. I'm currently a volunteer EMT and looking for some undergrad research on campus. I also have some connections and plan to do some shadowing of MDs and DOs here soon. Now I know it may be hard to say because I have yet to take the MCAT, but lets say with a sorta competitive score (28, just for a rough rough rough example), what would my chances be for DO if I were to maintain a 3.5-3.7 GPA for sophomore-senior year? I don't know exactly what my GPA would be counting my freshman bump, probably 3.3-3.4 unfortunately. I know they may consider looking at that and seeing it was just one semester which was iffy, but they also may not care. Who knows.

Basically I want to know whether or not to take the MCAT or the DAT... not to say dental school is easy to get into, its just slightly easier, and I know I'll just be on the hairy edge of acceptance or rejection to medical school.

Anyone with more experience than myself, your input is welcome and appreciated.

(P.S. I don't care about MD, seeing as if I can get into MD based on GPA/MCAT alone [which I probably can't], I'll get into DO also based on GPA/MCAT alone)

(P.P.S. I know it's hard to say considering so much has yet to happen, but I would just like a rough yes you have a good chance, yes but your chances or slim, or no, sorry, you suck no medical degree for you try again in another life)

Regards,

A.

Appreciate it.

YET ANOTHER P.S. it's late at night, and I'm stuck here wondering and wondering, and I have an exam tomorrow. Anyone else ever do that? (not to worry, the exam will be easy).

On a more serious note, who should I obtain letters of recommendation from? I always thought it was just professors, but that seems to not be the case...

I had a physics professor, my nurse manager boss at work, and two of my physician friends who knew me from work (I worked at the hospital)
