Okay so here goes nothing...

Im a pre med student with a cumulative GPA of 3.81 and an MCAT score of 43. Now to get to the bad news. My GPA is not indicative of the classes ive retaken and i understand that MD candidacy look upon the averages of these types. Also my GPA two years ago was 1.83 so i managed to work on it to raise it. However like i said previously my medical school weighted GPA is much lower than my cumulative as of right now. Im not sure if reasons apply but I took one and a half year of undergrad, the first year i did alright but the last semester my uncle died and i completely dropped the ball and my GPA plummeted. I did some soul searching for a year before returning to school. Extracurricular activities aside, what are my chances? And if anyone can advise me on how to look at my situation, I would sincerely appreciate it.

We'd need to know your GPA as the AMCAS (and TMDSAS) med school application service will figure it, including all courses attempted in a college. Only AACOMAS, the DO med school application service, allows for grade forgiveness when you retake a class (which it sounds like you've done). While you're at it, it would be helpful to know the GPA of math and science-only classes, too.

If ur MCAT really is a 43, I think u could get in with a 2.5 haha (not really) probably a 3.0 would put u ima competitive GPA range with that MCAT (probably highest score in the country)

Current cGPA? sGPA?
The MCAT score is in the 99th %ile...congrats!!!

Isn't a 43 like, the highest score obtained in over a decade?

Personally, I know two confirmed 42s (one of which was a Harvard MD/Ph.D student), but I've never seen a 43 and I never ****ing will. I got one 40 on an AAMC practice test once and it had to be due to luck or the test being one of the easier ones. There's a reason why the highest bracket on table 25 is 39-45. I feel like variance plays a huge role in getting scores above 36.

Anyway, you'll be tasked with explaining the dip in your GPA. Death in the family is a perfectly acceptable explanation for that, I feel.

Pretty sure there have been multiple 43+ scores every year, just going by the percentiles. UMich had at least one 45 apply this year because that's marked as the highest on their tracker.

Theres one major problem though. I was placed on academic probation and then academic suspension before so im not sure the value of these facets. There was a death in my family and my parents were going through altercations.

BPCM = 3.3

3.3 BCPM but ive been placed on academic suspension and academic probation. I dont know how the affect my candidacy.

About 3 years ago i was put on Academic suspension after my academic probation. Is there any chance for me??? Particularly if i show an upward trend.

People like come-from-behind stories, so yes, there's still plenty of hope.

You will have the space to explain the suspension and probation, but considering you have some years of academic excellence since that time, they are not a deal killer.
