Hey there,
I am just going to lay the facts out...

Non-traditional, URM, 3.8Cgpa (that's with a heavy upward trend), 2.7 science GPA (F in one of my courses -_-) NYU Clinical Research Volunteer (6 months) Current Veterinary Assistant for 5 years, over 100 hours of Volunteer work other than Research, and apart of an Honor Society (Sigma Beta Delta) and Deans List. No MCAT as of yet but im working on that.

Based off of the things that I have listed and without a formal interview, what would you say?

Thanks Guys!

Not good. Your sgpa is way to low for both MD and DO schools. Also your vet assistant job won't hold any merit and will only leave adcoms asking why not become a vet? Which community do you represent?

Hey there Thanks for replying, AA is the community I represent. Also I have been told otherwise that my veterinary experience actually would hold merit due the uniqueness in the fact that id rather be a physician for humans, sgpa I can understand I have been working really hard to get back on my feet after that F.

Being AA helps but you'll need clinical volunteering and you will need to raise your science gpa to around 3.25. Most MD schools auto screen for this or even higher.

what happens if my MCAT score turns out to be high hypothetically speaking? I mean def still gonna work on my sgpa regardless? do adcoms take that into consideration as well if a person has a low sgpa?

You won't pass the auto screen parameters with a 2.7 sGPA no matter how "high" your hypothetical MCAT is. And why do you think you'll have a high MCAT with a really low sGPA? Retake some of those science classes and and get it up to around a 3.2. Be prepared to answer how you know you know you want to work with humans when it seems you only have experience with animals. You need some human patient contact!

Hey thanks for the reply, the only reason why i feel as though i can have a high mcat despite my sgpa is because those science courses that i took were around a time that i was still figuring out my life and where i wanted to be, becoming a doctor was not always my intent but since falling in love with medicine in general and science i have been able to show that by keeping focus that i am actually very good at science unfortunatly my past is haunting me but i am trying to make up for that. I am a 26 year old non traditional student and i am not afriad to say that i have worked with animals and i have gotten clinical experience with human patients and i enjoyed every minute of it! Bottom line is i need to pull up my sgpa and than ill pass screening. Got it!

Thanks for the advice
