Hi guys -- wondering if i'm way out of my league here -- but stats:

3.6 cGPA; 3.9 sGPA ; MCAT TBD but right now (taking Aug 24) scoring ~500 on practice exams... so not good. Although I hear practice exams are harder than the real thing??? Shooting for 504 or higher..

Wondering if I still have a shot at MD schools / some decent DO schools even if I'm late in the cycle?
Some of my top are: Loyola Chicago, Rosalind Franklin, CCOM, AZCOM, UIC

Or honestly should I just forget it? Is a family doable in med school? I'm a female and won't matriculate until I'm 29, a lot working against me at this point. Time is not on my side.

Thanks for your input!

I've personally beaten the odds in Europe so don't let anyone tell you you can't do it! Greatness comes from within and it's in your hands.

Applicants in their 30s, 40s, and 50s matriculate into med school, so time IS on your side.

Med students get pregnant and do well in school regardless of having a family. The key to success is a good support system. You might seek out med schools that don't require lecture attendance in the pre-clinical years and provide access to taped classroom presentations.

Come back when you have your MCAT score and post in the WAMC (What are my chances?) subforum with all your details to get help with a school list.

Your GPAs are great and age is not an issue. You can probably submit your AMCAS and AACOMAS. The key thing is that MCAT, if it's on the lower 500 side or just under, DO very doable, if you score above ~507 you should be in good shape for those IS MD schools. Do note that Rosalind Franklin has a crazy high volunteer hour requirement I believe.

Rosalind Franklin just gets a LARGE number of apps

Your MCAT score can improve a good bit in the last month of studying.

Are the 500 exam scores on the AAMC full length or on exams from one of the test prep companies?

I'm really hoping so!

AAMC full length tests are probably a better indicator, right? Maybe I should try those rather than Princeton Review?

Exactly. Take one of the AAMC full length test. Simulate test day as well as you can (timed test, breaks, ect.). It will give you a much better indication of where you are in your prep than an exam from any of the test prep companies.

Take the AAMC practice tests. I scored a 501 on the princeton review test two weeks before my MCAT. I scored 515 on the AAMC FL2 and 516 on the real thing.

Thank you for this! Renewing my hope!
