I have 3.82sGPA and 3.90cGPA

1st MCAT (May 2008): 10ps 6vr 8bs M 🙁
2nd MCAT (May 2009): 11ps 8vr 10bs N 🙂

My application has already been verified by AMCAS and I applied to my
state medical college as early decision.

Did I make the right choice by applying as EDP?
or should I have applied to many other schools instead?

Any list of schools in case I don't get accepted as early applicant?

What's your state school? What are your ECs?

Georgia. Applied to MCG as EDP.

Shadowed pediatrician, family practicetioner, and a surgeon.
President of cultural club for 2 years
Received Merck Award in 2006.
1 year of research with cell biology professor and attended ASCB conference to present poster as primary author.
2 summers of organic chemistry research.
TA (tutor) for chemistry department.

I see that you are strong in research and leadership. The shadowing looks good. But what is your clinical experience working personally with ill patients, and what was your community service? These are other expected elements of a med school application.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention about my volunteer experience at ER, GI lab, and transport service for ~ 150hrs.
Also recently started volunteering at other hospital.

So your ECs are looking good. Median stats for those accepted to MCG are 3.8 and 31. Matriculant data is 3.7 and 30.3 (last year's data). With your stats, I think you have a chance, but you're not a shoo-in. It's always good to have a backup plan, and think ahead to a backup list. You can take a look at the School Selection spreadsheet stickied at the top of this forum, plug in your numbers, and get some ideas.

May I ask why you applied EDP? Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you not allowed to submit your AMCAS to other schools until you have a decision from EDP? And in the case you don't get in, won't you be super late to other schools?

Yes, you are correct. But I took a chance by applying as EDP b/c
MCG give invites ~140 EDP applicants for an interviews and accepts ~70. So my chance of getting in (if I get an interview invitation) is 50%. I also might have greater chance this cycle because they recently opened up satellite campus and will start to accept ~80 students more.

I am looking at other schools as backup plan but it seems like MCAT and GPA average of every schools has gone up. I recently bought 2010 MSAR and it seems like my 29N MCAT is not enough for most of the schools, including low-tier schools.

I would not have encourged you to apply EDP given your stats, but what's done is done. It's a good idea to have a backup plan, which might include applying regular admissions to the same school, adding DO schools to the list, and/or waiting until next year to reapply after retaking the MCAT. If you end up applying late to other schools with a borderline application, your chances are much diminished, so meanwhile, continue all your activities as if you knew you would reapply in a year.

That said, I wish you the best of luck, and I do think it's possible you'll get accepted EDP.

I totally agree here, but it does seem that applying EDP, given what this poster says are the EDP stats at this school, may very well have been a good strategy for him.

However, if the EDP fails, the cycle is probably pretty much lost for him, so hopefully he knows that and is doing something NOW to prep for another MCAT that he could take next January...

Apparently the EDP pool was more competitive than the regular pool for the 2009 class. If you don't get an interview invite from MCG by 9/1, call the admissions office. They will let you out of your application and you can apply to other MD schools.
