i am sure that some of us have got a few offers this weekend, and once we submit one of the acceptance letters, the contract will immediately be official. What is the rule of switching your choice of school for HPSP? I heard that as long as you go from an expensive school to a cheap one, it should be fine, and yet, my recruiter said that you could change your mind regardless of their tuition tag. Can someone care to elaborate on this topic? For the air force, all your four-year scholarship were gone by jan. last cycle, so if you really count on tuition assistance from the air force, you'd better act quick.

Do you mean you submitted one acceptance letter but may go to a different school if you get another, or are you talking about switching schools part way through dental school?

If you decide to go to a different school than you initial letter, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you let them know as soon as you make the choice. The HPSP scholarship doesn't care how expensive your school is. Once they start paying money to one school though, changing schools would be hard.

Yeah you can do it before you officially enroll...however, as Bquad said..I would imagine it would be hard once the military has started paying tuition at a particular school. I initially got accepted to one school...somewhere I didnt really want to go...submitted my acceptance just to "officially" accept the scholarship..and once I got in elsewhere I submitted the new letter, had to fill out some paperwork w/ the new school's info I believe...and the rest is history. I'm glad I submitted the first school's letter though b/c at least I started getting processed early...which helps for sure.

I appreciate everybody's input. What about I switch from 4 year scholarship to 3 year? Right now I want to get into UoP so bad.

I don't know for sure but if you were accepted for the 4 year they shouldn't have any problem dropping it to a 3 year if you get into UOP. They can't make you payback 4 years if you only went to school for 3.

Good luck.

Actually, the contract clearly states that you owe one year back for each year of tuition they pay, and I'm pretty sure UoP charges tuition four times. That said, I know two Army guys that were on the three year, both have just one more year left, but one said he thinks the Army has caught on.

Yeah i actually vaguely remember hearing something that even w/ UoP you still have to pay back 4 yrs. I can't confirm this though.

If they charge you 4 times, then you may be stuck with four years.

I looked at UOP's site and it appears that it is 3 full years which means you would start in the fall and end in the fall. That means the Army would have to pay for the quarter to cover the summer of your 3rd year, this probably would obligate you for 4 years, or at least an extra 3 months. I'd check with the recruiters on it.

Sorry for the confusion before.
