Hi friends,

I need some advise from those who already changed or in the process of changing their Dependant or visiting visas to F1(student)visa... I've some queries like what is the process , what is the success rate if we go out of US and apply F1...whether we can show loan approval letter to embassy or have to show personal funds also...
Is it positive or negative going through loan approval letter..
If any one have any idea plz throw some light on it..🙁
Appreciate your help!!!

hey plz throw some light on this topic. i also want to knw this ....
thanx in advance.🙂

Hi all,

All are reading the post but no one trying to post their experience!! Please try to put your input... It would help many those in same boat...
Thanks in advance..

so many views nd no one replying..it ll be very helpful if someone could shed light on this topic........

help nd be helped...

The best things would be to have personal funds....but i think that is kind of hard to have......
If you have loan approval letter i am sure that is going to help a lot.....
I have rarely heard a student visa getting rejected....if u have a acceptance letter and loan documents absolutely ready.....
How are you arranging for loans then....if u are on student visa....i mean do u have a co-signer....if u have then it shouldnt be a problem.......All the best...

i doubt this coz if u show them tht u r taking loan from u.s with a co -signer' the chances of getting visa refuasl increases i suppose. coz wht i heard.. u cant show them tht u have taken loan.... i dont knw but someone told me this... and i think the one who has undergone this procedure can tell better!!!!!
and thts true too tht i never heard of student visa being rejected and yes its hard enough to show tht amount of funds .....!!!!! so anyone who can expain this ???????????

@ feelgood why do u think they might refuse if we get loan from US? Do u've any idea that they will accept when we show loan from India..
I'm trying to get loan approval letter and show some funds.. does it work?
Does the college issue I20 with loan approval letter only or we've to show some personal funds also??

Thank you for your input @dendoc..

@iris999.
i said i have heard. even i cant say it for sure coz i have not been through this process. the person who told me this said tht they grant student visa and tourist visa to those whom they think will come back to their country and will not be burden on u.s.so taking loan from their country will not fetch foreign currency to u.s... u.s offers students to study in u.s to get the foreign exchange. no doubt tht its a different issue tht people get work permit after they are finished with studies.. and start living in u.s but first they have to show tht they just wanna study and come back!!!
i hope this shudnt be true....but trust me i never heard of visa beibg rejected after getting admission to dds. so chill and gud luck ...!!!!

the second thing which i think is they shudnt object on getting the loan because they knw u.s banks give loan to those who are worth.. they dont offer loan to just anyone....

i think u can tell better after the interviews wat they asked and hw did they proceed. coz u have already been to u.s and returned back gives them solid reason tht u wanna study only....🙂 this is my perspective..

Chances of getting a student visa are slim if you are applying for the studies that you have already completed earlier.I mean if you already have a bachelors n u want to study for a bachelors degree again...it is hard to get from a US consulate abroad. If you want to study for a post grad. study ,it would be easier. You didn't mention your visa category,if it is b1/b2 you will have to go out of us.If f1/f4/h1/h4 then i think you can change the status while u r in US.

Hi all, i'm in the same boat, but from what i've read here isnt it contradictory??

I'm a dependent, and as a dependent I cannot get a student loan. If i cant get a student loan, I cant show funds to change my visa status.. Can anyone who had been through this process shed some light on this? Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks in advance

1. Talk to the bank first and see what they have to say
2. Get student loan from your home country
3. Unless you are not a citizen/GC u wnt get a loan from US/Camdain bank irrespective of whtever visa you have.

4. Thts where the Co-signer's come.. they will be co-signing the loan for you.

Hope it makes sense to you.

Hi All,
It is possible to get a private student loan even if you are on dependent visa status as long as you have a US citizen or GC holder as a cosigner. Check out studentloan.com (Citibank's website)
I think it is easier and safer to change your visa status from within US. You can show the loan approval letter and your personal funds. The chances of rejection, when changing your visa status, from within the States are very slim. Although it can take anywhere between 3-6months, but you can study on H4 or L2 till you get approval notice for change of status to F1.
As far as I know, you dont have to submit any financial documents to the school for getting your I20 (atleast i didnt have to submit them)
Good luck.

Thanks DR37 and toothydoc for you inputs!

I did call citizen bank and I can get a loan with a co signer. so from what you guys have told me, I should just change the visa status from within US after I get a loan approval from someplace

thanks once again!
