So i'm new here and in need of some help. I am in a bit of a pickle because my 2 semesters of chemistry ended with a C-. I don't know if I'll have time to retake both semesters, but I could retake 1 semester but that means I will have to take abnormal psych in the semester that grad school for PT won't look at. Should i try to retake a semester of chemistry or should i just try to get my GPA as high as i can with my current class schedule plans? I am working towards getting observation hours as well as load up on extra curriculars. So I was wondering how much something like this could hurt my chances of getting accepted to PT school. How much weight does chemistry hold for this type of situation?

yeah most schools don't even accept C- in Pre-Reqs. You have to make time to retake them. maybe 8 week classes so you can knock em out in one semester?

I've read other posts that describe Cs as being looked over sometimes, but if i can only take 1 semester again would that be alright? would that help?

Maybe it could be looked over. But do you really want to take that chance while the admissions process gets more competitive every year with others pulling As in chemistry?

I don't know if i can retake 2 semesters though and i was wondering if maybe a B and a C- would be good if abnormal psych may not even be recognized despite me having taken it. I have to stay an extra semester in undergrad so my last semester would have abnormal psych in it and since i'm applying that semester i don't know if i should just power through the rest of my classes with flying colors including abnormal psych not in that last semester.

I know of absolutely zero programs that will accept a c- as a grade for a pre req. Why not retake it? So what if you have to apply a cycle late? It's better than spending the money to apply and then get rejected at every single school.

I agree with what FuhLeePlay mentioned: take a shorter version. I took Physics I & II over the summer (4 weeks each) just to get them over with. Then that summer I also got ~90 observation hours (+school cred) with my practicum. I'm really happy I did that.

you won't get in anywhere with a C- in any prerequisites. I think most people on here would agree with that statement. If its just one class you may be a ble to get in with a solid C if the rest if your application is up to par. If you want to have any chance then retake both.

You took Physics I and II in just eight weeks? I've never heard of such an intense syllabus. How did you survive?

LCStudent: Retake that class. It sucks, but no school will accept it.

New Testament, I've never heard of a four week course, not even in the summer. I'm taking physics II this summer; it's a six week class which meets four days a week for 3 hours a day. If you take two weeks out of that i can only imagine how hectic and rushed it would be.

Some people have posted that Cs have been looked over, but I've never heard of a C- being looked over. Most schools would just drop your application if it does not meet the minimum standards, and usually a C is the lowest prerequisite grade that would be accepted. Definitely retake the classes if you want your application to be considered.

NewTestament/jdaniels360:

At my school they offered a sizeable variety of 4-week courses over the first month of summer (that most students call "Maymester") and then an even smaller variety of classes for the second month of summer ("Junemester"). There was a week between spring semester and Maymester. And a weekend between Maymest and Junemester. Several of my fellow pre-PT friends took Anatomy or Physiology or Chemistry (I and/or II) during these 4-week courses.

It was brutal. At least the lecture part (8:00 -12:00 for 4 days a week with our tests on Friday). Lab wasn't so bad (2x/wk.). But I was very happy to get both of them over with. My friends who had taken either or both of these 4-week style summer courses before had told me it would be intense, but your focus is solely on one course and you're practically immersed in it. So, retaining information for a test on Friday that covers material from Monday-Thursday (and a final that was just 4 weeks of material) wasn't too bad.
