Child Psychiatry MAGA salary data?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For what it's worth, you'll find child psych doctors making more than gen psych doctors, and plenty who make less per hour for the work they put in for all the extra paperwork and conversations with schools, therapists, families, etc.

Child psych based on MAGA data usually is very close to adult psychiatry. Huge shocker here but MAGA does not do a great job encapsulating pay for a field when people are self-employed or working at multiple different sites. MAGA's main purpose as best I can tell is to provide a tool for potential employers to offer you less money than you are actually worth. There are certainly private/cash pay psychiatrists that make more or fill better due to their CAP training and it opens some jobs that would otherwise be closed, but generally I would not expect pay to be much different than adult psychiatry.

Thanks! I didn’t know there wasn’t a difference.

L-R median salaries for eastern, midwestern, southern, and western regions. As you can see in some regions you get less for child, in others the same, and only in the western region is it significantly more.
I assume you meant MGMA as as far as I know trump has not been collecting salary data for psychiatry (unless this was in the healthcare price transparecy executive order) 😉

Doesn’t MGMA report include total compensation (benefits/etc) and not just salary?

fake news. "total compensation" explicitly does NOT include benefits. That data would be completely meaningless for negotiations if that were the case. It includes salary, bonuses, stipends, incentive payments, honoraria, and profit sharing. Any voluntary salary reductions are also included of course (e.g. 401k, HSA). But CME, malpractice, health insurance, disability insurance, pension/retirement, travel, cell phone funds etc are NOT included.

Regardless, the MGMA data is flawed, is used to keep compensation for physicians low (think about it, why would organizations use this data if it didn't help them? Even the way MGMA markets the data is for administrators to keep costs of "providers" [sic] low), and is very difficult to analyze due to very low sample sizes and the wide variety of different practice models and payment structures that exist.

Lmao—- it doesn’t contain percentile for the compensation just the median?

I'm a little late to the discussion, but I couldn't find the "MAGA" data.

I'm a PGY2, already slated for a fellowship in CAP. Rumors around the residency is that CAP-trained start at $100k more than adult, but I highly doubt that. Of course much of pay is based upon the type of work, etc., but I am having a hard time getting ahold of any numbers. Job postings don't indicate pay (they just say 'highly competitive'). It's annoying, but the sense I get is that most CAP-trained start at ~250k/yr, which is more or less what I think adult psychiatrists start at(?).

If anyone has more links, resources, or even descriptions of recent job offers I'd be curious to know what numbers you were seeing. I think I'll eventually be interested in working in Oregon, Washington state, or Idaho, in case that matters.

Thanks!
