I realize this thread probably has been beating to death, however I was wondering who chose to go to school out-of-state over your in-state school and what where your deciding factors?

For me, my in-state school's tuition (UIC) has become uber-expensive; roughly $210k & rising w/o living expenses, and my alternate out-of-state school's tuition (Louisville) is $232k w/o living expenses. With the tuition of both schools know being relatively equal and a non-issue at this point, I'm really having a difficult time deciding where to go.

Can anyone from either UIC or Louisville chime in on this from a pro vs. con perspective? Which school is more clinically and technologically superior, has a friendlier student body and faculty etc... I love my city (Chicago) but there is something about Louisville I find intriguing and their cost of liviing is very reasonable.

Help...any feedback on your experiences with a similar dilemma will be greatly appreciated 😀

Leaving family and friends is never a good idea, unless it is a last resort.

Care to explain?

I moved more than halfway up the east coat to attend dental school and it was the best decision I ever made. If you have lived in Chicago your entire life I would encourage you to consider Louisville. You will definitely meet new friends. Also, the opportunity to live in a difference area of the country will either reinforce your decision to practice in Chicago or give you an appreciation for some place new.

Just my opinion..

Thank you for the insightful reply. I guess those who love you will always love you no matter where you are. I just hope Louisville is as friendly as it everyone says it is; I literally know no one there. Their school is suberb from what I can tell. UIC just didn't wow me like I had hoped. Some schools think that just because they're in a prime locale that everyone should bow down and kiss the ring.

I am going to be attending Louisville and am VERY friendly. No ring kissing here. Don't worry.
