Hey all, was wondering if one of you could shed some light on how long I should expect to wait after interviewing at Cincinnati before receiving a decision? (I understand they are only handing out waitlist spots right now, but I'll take what I can get at this point)

Most people have been saying two weeks, but I've also heard three. Mine was just over two weeks. Check their status page on a daily basis. They update it at the same time they mail the letters. I found out 3-4 days before I got the letter by checking the status page.

It's been more than three weeks for me now. At the interview they said 4-6 weeks.

Anyone interview in january and still not hear back yet? I am guessing bad news, but nothing like a letter to confirm it. Its been over 4 weeks for me.

Same with me. I talked to someone in the office, and they said that the committee met on tuesday... we'll hear back some time this week.

damn, i:ve been checking my status page alot too. Its too much waiting.

Hey guys,

What do you think a "Hold" means? Is that the same thing as waitlist?! Has anyone been placed on the waitlist before January? Or does everyone who's gonna be waitlisted get a hold before the waitlist is formulated? 😕

I don't think being put on hold necessarily means you have been waitlisted. I was put on hold about a week before Cincy changed my status page to accepted. My theory is that when you are put on hold it means your application is under final review, and you should be hearing as to accepted or waitlisted very soon. However, this is only speculation.

It is also possible that Cincy is one of those schools that doesn't form a waitlist until the interview season is over (late March/April). If this is the case, being put on hold could mean that your application is reviewed with all the most recent interviewees each time the Adcom meets. Then you will either hear about an acceptance between now and April, or you will officially be put on a waitlist in April and remain on hold until then.

Can anyone else clarify this further?

I was also placed on hold. 😴 (getting tired of the application process). I think they keep your application under consideration for acceptance until about march or april when they create the waitlist. At that point you're either ranked in the waitlist or rejected.

Hey. I interviewed on 1/10 and just got a hold offer as well. When I first went to the website and logged in, I got this scary screen that came up with all these crazy responses like "your application is not complete", "you've been rejected and a letter is on its way", "your accepted, congratulations", and "you're on hold". So when i tried a few more times, i got the hold thing. So I assume I'm on hold.

Anyhow, there was this user named "ravi" who interviewed on 1/10 who wrote she got "waitlisted" (her words, not mine) in the Ohio School Thread toward the end. Anyway, I figured if she got a hold, she would have said so but she specifically wrote waitlist. So, I still have hope that it won't come to the waitlist route and that we'll get offers of acceptance after they take another look and ask around about us. it sucks, though, i really want to go to uc. i can't think straight anymore.

I think ravi meant hold, cause at the interview they said there will be two outcomes after the interview: acceptance or hold. The waitlist is formulated later on... and at that point applicants are ranked. Now that we're on hold there are three outcomes: acceptance, waitlist, or rejection.

I see your point vandalay. I'm just trying to rationalize and make myself feel better. For whatever reason, I really, really, really want to go to UC and get myself off all this hold/potential-waitlist/reject wagon as soon as possible. i'm dying here

interviewed at UC 11/29. Got the "No final decision has been reached" (is this same as Hold?) in about 3-4 weeks. Then acceptance a week after that I think (I stopped checking website frequently).

Interviewed Jan 11. Right after your interiview the status page says, interview was conducted, no final decision reached. Last thursday my page updated, it still says the no final decisiion reached, but underneath that there was an addition that said, "the committee reviewed your app and has placed you on hold".

Bastards.

I interviewed back on Dec 7th, and I thought this interview went flawless...I thought my interviewer just loved me.

I was placed on hold not too long after :/ Ive been "on hold" since.

man,
that sucks. somewhere on the interview feedback forum someone who interviewed at uc this year said that they offer somewhere like 350 acceptances for a class of 163 or something.

wish you all the best.

good luck.

best of luck. i will not attend UC. my interview there was so-so. i interviewed with a faculty member from trauma/critical care. he wasn't antagonistic, but it didn't seem like he was trying very hard to sell UC to me. or he could have been just real tired (very bloodshot eyes) and yawned a couple of times during the interview (told me not to take it personally, which i didn't).

yeah man, i'm from ohio. tell me that's good news. i know that osu takes in-state status into account but doesn't really use it as much of a criteria as they used to. They are, you know, THE Ohio State University. 😛

hey art,

don't lose hope. i got put on hold last week and i just got accepted today, 2/15. so it may work out before you think!

Congratulations on the acceptance! I hope I get lucky soon.

Congrats!! So our application is still under review even when we've been put on hold? I was put on hold Feb 10.

When your on hold, your application gets reviewed every time the committee meets. If your still on hold by march, then you might get put on the waitlist. Hey abhishek... do you think your status page really meant to say "acceptance". I remember you were saying it said "reject" then "accept" then "hold"... maybe it was an acceptance all along.

I think when I logged in last week, the page was all messed up for some reason. I think it was their fault. When I logged in (about another 5 times), I definitely got the hold message last week. This week I definitely got the acceptance with no problems.

Congrats for the achievement.

Just a request, could you post us your stats. Maybe they can jump-start someone like me.
Thanks

Just a quick question...

I was interviewed back in Nov, and was placed on hold 3 weeks later. I sort of scrapped the idea that I'll be attending UC since I truely believed I bombed my interview.

So that means we'll find out if we're rejected sometime in March? In some sick way, I'd prefer a rejection rather than some false hope of this hold/waitlist category...

i interviewed last month and i haven't heard anything. my status page says: we are excited to invite you to an interview.

i was excited too.

You know, I don't know but I suspect that as the weeks go on and you have a hold, they re-evalute you after every week and may put you into fresh consideration for acceptance each week. Also, I think that UC webpage is a bit buggy because one time I had this crazy screen come up with a bunch of different messages saying i got in, didn't get in, got held, withdrew and all that. Either way, I still think you stand a fair shot. Someone on the interview section said UC sends out 350 acceptances for 160 or so seats. The specs are on that page . . .

Interviewed at Cincy on Feb 7th....put on hold at Cincy on Feb 24th 🙁

P.S. I am out-of-state

so now did you send a letter of interest or do anything special during that week to get them to change their mind so fast? (looking for advice)

how long did you guys wait until you saw a change on ur status page? My page still says you have been invited for an interview. Its been over 4 weeks.

I think you should call them.

I was looking on the website and they were saying they make correspondences once every month... so we'll get our acceptances in March? :luck:

I was told at my interview (2/15) that UC has accepted approx 230 students. The dean said she will push that number up to 260 after the Feb acceptance batch. That will be the last batch of straight up acceptances. Applicants like me, who is expecting to hear in March, are very very likely going straight to the "hold" category.

UC accepted about 360 applicants last year, according to the USnews. That means, around 100 applicants will get pull out of the "hold" group into the acceptance group. UC interviewed 700 this year. Thus, of the 700 interviewed, 260 have been accepted, and 440 have been/will be put on hold. Out of the 440 people on hold, 100 get accepted. So if you interviewed at UC and have not received a decision, you have less than 25% of getting in in mid-May

Also, one more thing, the "hold" group/waitlist is not ranked. I don't know how UC decides who gets pulled from the hold group and who doesn't. If anyone can shed some light on the waitlist, please do.

Someone mentioned on SDN that Feb 28 was the last interview date. Hey Art, how did you like UC? When I was there, the students were on spring break so I didn't really get to "feel" what UC was like.

Art Vandalay said:
that's interesting... so are they done interviewing?

That's a pretty early spring break! We actually didn't get a chance to check out the classrooms cause our tour was behind schedule. We saw students in the computer lab and some first year students studying for an exam. Saw some people working together... It seems like a good environment. The computer lab was pretty nice. Nobody was working out in that closet gym. If they'll accept us, we can make use of it. It was raining the day of my interview, so nobody was walking around outside. The anatomy lab was a little nicer than the other ones I've seen. In general, I liked the school... What were your thoughts?
