Does anyone here have experience with the civil service route into IHS? It is hard to understand the payscale and I can't find information about benefits (medical, 401k).

I am considering applying but would like to speak with someone who has experience with it first. Feel free to pm.

General Benefits- http://www.ihs.gov/pharmacy/index.cfm?module=fcs
GS Scale- http://www.opm.gov/policy-data-over...cation-standards/0600/pharmacist-series-0660/
Benefits and pay scale will be different if you go to a tribally run site. Go to usajobs.gov to see salary ranges of current positions. You can contact the HR contact listed to determine what you starting salary would be based off of your experience.
Another site with salary ranges of IHS positions- http://www.jobsfed.com/rp/cgi/Vacancy.cgi?GroupID=08;Series=0660;Valued=1

Thanks.
So if you are hired on as a GS9, does your pay increase automatically in a year to a GS11, and to a GS12 the following year?

No. Unless you are hired into a GS promotable position (e.g.9/10/11, 10/11/12) you will remain a GS9. You will increase in STEPS from 1-10, but it maxes out at 10.

At least that's how it works in the DoD...

So if you apply after you have graduated and worked outside of the federal system as a pharmacist for a couple years, does that mean you enter as a GS-13?

It just depends on how HR interprets your experience and if it is applicable to the position applied to.
