I haven't seen you on the forums for a while... how is it going?
Haha 2 posts while I put up my little spiel? We're not padding to get to 2000 tonight, are we? 😉

Also, hey c/o 2013! It's sure getting hard to find time to get on SDN over the break (just got back from the Alamo Bowl here in San Antonio, great game... and since my dad works for the sponsor, Valero, that means we got access to the company lounge where we got free food and FREE LIQUOR!!!).
Hope everyone's break is going well, may some of you all get some belated Christmas presents this holiday season, and those of you lucky enough to have decisions to make, I hope you make the right choice for yourself 🙂

But yeah, it's kinda crazy... I've been busy seeing friends and family, and especially the girlfriend now that I actually have time to do so. I'm sure I'll be back on here 24/7 as soon as I get back to school and especially a couple of hours before some otherwise super important exam 😛
Haha... that is good.... I also completely understand about the exam part... I was on SDN 20 minutes before my genetics final...
So... I have always wondered this... what do people actually do on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day... and what is the difference?
I think this question sounds odd, but I am genuinely curious... is it the same as they show on TV?
Also, regarding that vaccination interlude that happened on the last page... so what shots do we actually have to get to be set for med school that we didn't need for college? My acceptances have pretty much just said (as far as I could tell) that I had to send them my immunization history, but didn't tell me any specific shots that I needed to have... is there something I need to make sure I've got?
Someone, anyone... help?
If I am not mistaken, they need to make sure you have been immunized, and you need to have the Hep B, TB, and Tetanus Booster done...since these are technically optional...
I'm not sure I understand the question... I would imagine that you know that Christmas is the actual religious holiday, and therefore the Eve is just the day before it... so what more do you want to know?
As for my family personally, we always go to one of the Christmas vigil masses at our church (as good as Christmas Day mass for us Catholics 🙂) on Christmas Eve late afternoon/early evening, go to a family reunion thing for my dad's side of the family that evening, and then actually open gifts on Christmas Day morning. Usually some of my mom's family will come over at some point in the day.
But I'm not sure I'm answering your question 😕
Hmmm... so I suppose if I send them my immunization record, they'll send me a note saying I need to get X, Y, and Z done before I start? Can't they probably just give me them when I get there?
It can be either of those or neither. Many of my atheist/agnostic, buddhist, and Jewish friends celebrate Christmas. It's basically just a time to be with family and eat a lot of food.Yes I know it is a religious holiday, although there are people who are trying to make it more of a secular gift giving holiday...

There's nothing actually special about the Eve. But since Christmas is such a big holiday here, they like to stretch out the celebration.
Yah, I guess... I have never celebrated it (considering I am not part of the above mentioned religions) so I was just curious...
Yes I know it is a religious holiday, although there are people who are trying to make it more of a secular gift giving holiday...
But your explanation is sufficient. It makes sense... I was just wondering what the point of the Eve was...
Some shots like Hep B need to be done over a long period of time...
Oh yeah... hmmm, it's 3 o clock where I'm at, I'm allowed to forget these things 😛 And in a related note, you'd better hurry up and get to 2k, I'm ready to go to bed!
And if I remember correctly... you're Hindu, right?
Nope... the other religion that is predominant in India... and please do not say Sikh or Jain or Buddhist... or Animist for that matter
Islam?
Yup! We have a winner!
Damn... and I specifically remember you mentioning your religious holiday last week, and I had to look it up and saw it was for Islam. And then I forgot. *sigh* I'm a terrible friend.
Alright... off to bed 🙂 'Grats on the 2000th post thingy, I'll try to remember to get my new immunizations soon... if anyone has anything else to add, please do, I'd feel silly if I showed up and they said, "sorry, we have to hold you out for half a year because you have to get these shots over a 6 month period"![]()
I'd be interested in learning more about islam. From what I have heard it seems to be a bit more logically coherent than christianity. Judaism also seems to be more logically coherent than christianity.
I like that Jesus isn't such a big deal in those religions.
Do most muslims believe that god is an actual conscious all-knowing entity?
Or do they believe that god is just the good forces in life (love, compassion, charity, empathy, tolerance)?
Ok, I'm interested in the epistemology of that line of thought. Is that a belief or supposed to be known? If it is supposed to be known, what was the source of the information? That's where many christians lose me. They claim that it's known but then cannot explain where the information came from.
I think that is a very wise decision.(I have decided to spend these 8 years doing undergrad and med school instead😳)
It's fine. I personally think you nailed it when you said it's belief and tradition.Sorry I cannot be of more help on this topic...
Hey! I see you used your donor power to alter your name as well 😎
ps. apartment shopping already? 😱 I guess in the big cities where nice housing is hard to find...but I was planning on trying to find a place only after I figure out where I'm going for sure in May.
re: Christmas
I guess I'm one of thepeople who tries to make it more secular. My boyfriend is Jewish(not religious, but his parents are) and I am technically Russian orthodox (also not religious; my "christmas" is jan 7) so we kinda compromise and celebrate dec 25 🙂
coming from the west coasti think it definitely counts!Woohoo, University of Virginia invite... it is not formal yet, but I sent an in the area letter to the Dean of Admissions and she replied back! Yay! my last set of interviews!... Hmm I wonder if I can send one to Emory and Consider that Virginia is in the area???
