Hahahaha! Hopefully I will be a bison soon! I am good, wassup with you SB? Did you defer at Tufts?

How are those primaries coming you guys?

I'm still waiting on the completion and subsequent editing of my PS as well as filling in my EC descriptions. I'm going to request my transcript be sent to AMCAS today.

Wassup Chad. Primaries are coming. I am done with my ps so now I just have to order tranny's, enter grades, and activities and I should be cool for a sec.

Hey Chad, how do you like Richmond? How do you like VCU, because I was thinking about applying there.

Hello Everyone!!

I know i'm pretty late joining onto this thread but I am accepted into Rochester's Early Assurance Program. If anybody is from the area and would like to give me any advice on adjusting to below zero temperatures coming from New Orleans that would be great! Chatting it up is fine as well 😳

University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry class of 2013!!!

Hey guys! Life is gooooood! Went and celebrated MCAT last night, and tonight i'm going to the hospital to visit my new baby niece that was born this morning!!

Primary is almost complete. Waiting on transcripts to arrive and need to check over the whole thing one more time.

Being a Southerner myself, I couldn't even begin to apply north of the TN state line.

Congrats on finishing the PS. I have a feeling I'll be making small changes on it up to the last second. I'm a bit nervous about it - I hope it's good enough! :scared:

I really really like Richmond a lot, but if you're from a big city it will probably be a bit too small for you. A lot of people here complain that there's not that much to do, but there's plenty to do - clubs, music, etc., etc. Granted there are not as many things to do as other cities but it's a great place to live. And don't let the crime rate scare you too much - most of the crime is limited to one small area and even then it's a lot of domestic and drug issues. Also, I think the location is ideal. You're about 1.5 hours from the beach, 1.5 hours from Charlottesville, 2.5 hours to DC, and somewhat close to NYC. Plus the weather is nice (although it's been getting much warmer lately and we've had a big drought this year). The summers aren't too hot and the winter's aren't too cold.

VCU itself is a great school, IMO. Everytime I go to an open house or something on the medical campus I am continually impressed. The administration and faculty seems to REALLY care about the students, and the students seem fairly happy (as far as I can tell). I work on the medical campus now and there are a lot of opportunities clinically as well as with research. I've lived in Richmond since I was 4 years old and it would be nice to get out for a little bit, I would consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to go to VCU.

Good luck! 👍

Haven't done too much on my primary... Just studying! Hurry up 27th! I did get my transcripts sent though and I am trying to figure out which EC's to put on. I have 17 that my pre med advisor told me I "must" put on... Trying to figure out if I can combine some in a non-awkward way. What did you guys do for the required fields for combined ec's (like multiple service trips, tutoring programs, etc) for contacts, hours per week, location, etc?

I've been told you can leave these blank for combinations. If you have enough characters in the description I would put them there.

So include all that info for each in the description?

i saw chubs ask this question earlier, but i can no longer find it! 😳
it's ok if i dont enter a grade with ap courses, right? i just need to put the class in my freshman year and the units the school gave me, right?

Also, I have 30 units in ap credit. since they say the first 30 units are your freshman year, the second 30 is sophomore, etc. then did i start college as a sophomore?! that seems stupid.

Nah I'm going next fall! I did an early acceptance program which is pretty sweet.

I didnt ask this....I asked what to do for future current courses...But you dont have to enter anything for ap courses.

Bumpty Bump Bump!!! Wassup everybody, even though nobody is on right now. So I am saying wassup for when people come back. Just up playing around with the amcas and studying. Okie dokie, talk to yall later! God bless.

Almost...although I'm not looking forward to this weekend 🙁 Seeing certain relatives I wish to avoid for Memorial Day...

I have a question for you guys. If I have already taken all of the aamc practice tests last summer, do you think I should take them again or should I only do princeton review?

I say it depends on your score, are you doing pretty well on the AAMC tests? I mean are you averaging a good score not just getting a good score once in a blue moon.

I have never really blown them out the water. Last time I took one of them was last september. I never scored above a 30

Well Howards mean average isn't above 30 anway, and theres about 35 other schools with an average under 30, so thats cool just make sure you have a good well rounded app. But if you can afford TPR then I say do it. I'm taking the kaplan course cause I just need some structure to my studying.

Side Note: When'd you pledge? We might be sands.

Nah I'm a Que but its just good to see other members of BGLOs going into medicine since there aren't many of us. You've got a lot more years in the game than me though I'm Spr. 07. I just thought we might be sands since were in the same app year.

Oh ok, thats wassup. You are right about seeing other people in the divine 9 or the great 8, some say, going into medicine. Have u taken the mcat? I have a combined total of a 23. I dont want to retake but I know I should. I believe I could get in where I want with what I have but I still want to be more competitive. I have taken this thing a couple of times already.

If it helps, here are how I was doing last summer before I took my MCAT:

Date Exam PS/VR/BS TOTAL
5/23 Kaplan Diag. - 9/7/8 = 24
7/7 Kaplan FL-1 - 8/10/9 = 27
7/26 AAMC 3-CBT - 11/9/10 = 30
7/30 Kaplan FL-2 - 9/9/8 = 26
7/31 Kaplan FL-3 - 10/11/10 = 31
8/2 AAMC 6-CBT - 11/8/10 = 29
8/6 AAMC 7-CBT - 9/10/9 = 28
8/8 AAMC 8-CBT - 10/10/10 = 30
8/10 AAMC 9-CBT - 10/11/9 = 30
8/13 AAMC 10-CBT - 10/11/10 = 31
8/14 Actual MCAT - 9/10/12 = 31R

I still am bitter about the 9/10 in PS/VR (I was hoping for a 10/11) but I have no idea where that 12 came from in BS. 😱

Well Howards average last year for acceptances was a 24.9 so if the rest of your app is great I think you could get in, but if you feel like you could do better then I say go ahead and retake. I haven't taken it yet but with my GPA I'm hoping for a 30+ so i've been doing some mega studying. If you've got the money to spare I'd say taking one of the classes wouldn't be a bad route to take.

My postbacc put us thru the princeton course last summer which was cool. So i am just trying to figure out how I need to study for this thing to really knock it out. My score jumped 6 points after the summer. Just have to figure out how to get a couple more points. 😕😕😕

If you've already been through it I'd just say practice, practice, practice. Or atleast thats what seems to be the general consensus to achieving a good score on here.

I think practice>studying factoids.

Yep. It'll also get you prepared for the test-taking itself. If it makes it any more realistic for you, I can come to your house with a fingerprint scanner and not let you use the toilet unless you sign in/out 😛

hey bd2b...I would say the AAMCs are worth repeating...You probably cant remember the questions after a year anyways.

Thats funny!!!!!!:laugh::laugh: The sad part is it is like that!

Wassup Chubbs. Your right. I just want to make sure that I bang this thing out!

So do u think I should worry about books and stuff or should I just practice?
How much time do you have to study for this??? How many hours a day can you devote to it??

I would say if you have time it would be worth it to learn the concepts cold and take practice tests or practice passages from EKs 1001 or TPRs science workbooks at the same time...just make sure you go through the questions meticulously aftr you complete them.

Well you do have to have some prerequisite knowledge, and these review books are good at helping you learn this information.

But once that information is learned the bulk of your studying should be practicing timed, full-length MCAT exams. Also, in taking these exams, you can better analyze what areas your weaknesses lie in, and you can gear the rest of your "factoid studying" toward these areas.

Good luck! 👍

I registered for the july 18th exam. I have 2 weeks left in my postbacc. Time depends on if I sleep or not. No sleep means I can bang out some serious hours. Some sleep means I can do 4-5hrs a day. Should I order the Nova physics books? I have TBR books and TPR books
