Hey fellow 2013ers!

I kinda love that someone was asking for relationship advice on this forum by the way. Not sure how much a bunch of pre-meds can help, but I gotta say, I learned a few tricks to pick up guys in the library 🙂

I'd also like to add my own frustration about transcripts. First I gotta deal with the anxiety of all the credits being weird because I've taken classes at 3 universities. Then I gotta wait for ALL of them to take their sweet time and send them to AMCAS. I don't want to start calling already because I feel like that'll set a bad precedent for insanity in the application process, and I'm getting the impression that there's a lot of letter-writing and calling that needs to be done as it is, and I'd like to wait until it's absolutely necessary for me to be a pest...especially since I'm applying to the med schools of all 3 universities.

Anyways, I'm bored and I'm rambling and I don't want to write my PS.

I can't believe June 4th is so close!! Man, Friday night and I'm talking about the first day you can submit AMCAS. 😴 I need a life. My friends keep telling me boyfriend=life but guys take soo much time. And brain power. Too lazy...
Who's with me?!?!

Oh, I also can't believe I still have finals to look forward to in the coming weeks. That, and my roomate spread her awesome germs to me. Sigh, fun times.

I know right? Friday night and I'm spending it looking up stuff on SDN because I have all this pent up nervous energy. I've been looking forward to going to med school for like, 15 years, and now I just want to get it over with and get in SOMEwhere. And I'm totally with you on the boyfriends = hassle thing. I'm premed, I don't have time for such nonsense...
actually, do you find that mentioning that you're premed intimidates the average male? I occasionally find myself lying and saying I am studying art history and want to go into fashion merchandising (I even throw in a giggle). Nerdy females of the world, unite!

Yeah, I know. I spoke to a doctor the other day and I was all starry-eyed and telling him that I want to go into medicine and he went on this 40 minute rant about how medicine isn't worth it. Oh, and USNews has an article about the "most overrated careers" and physician is one of them. We must be crazy...but ew, can you really look at teeth all day???
 
By the way, I'm impressed at your Guitar Hero skills, if you really are as good as you say in your profile. I can barely play that on easy.

I probably could, since I would only have to work 9-4 for 180K lol.

That's just unacceptable. Seriously.

And I don't know, I still feel like teeth are gross, and they probably get really old really quickly. The money doesn't get old, I suppose, but it seems like such a boring job.

Anyways, I'm off to bed now. I'm sure I'll be back on here tomorrow 🙂

The doctor who I shadowed, had a talk with me before the shadowing took place. He was basically telling becoming a doctor is a terrible profession and I should consider something more sensible. When we established I was infact crazy enough to still want to go into medicine, he was happy to let me follow him around. At times I feel like this is the scene from fight club, where they tell people they aren't good enough and to go away. But if you stick it out you get to join the secret society.

Any ideas as to what time on the 4th we can submit? I work mid-day :/
 
The only person that's tried to talk me out of it is my Dad (who's not a physician)....

Other than that everyone else (including the doctors I've shadowed, etc.) was very excited for me.

you don't need to submit it on the 4th...don't worry about it. anytime in june is essentially exactly the same.

ive had a few tell me to go for it...but more tell me to do something else.
 
2013, wassup my future classmates! How is everybody doing? I am doing well, just studying for exams and finals. 6 more days and my postbacc is finished 😀😀😀. I can't wait. Has everybody sent in their tranny's?

Oh gosh, I feel bad that you still have exams. It seems like so late in the year to still be in school. Congrats about the postbacc though! That's quite an accomplishment.

Mailed my transcript request in two weeks ago, got confirmation that it was sent on May 22nd, and now I'm just watiting on AMCAS... :\

My transcript was *supposedly* sent this past Monday (3/27) and my school is only like 90 miles from DC, so I'm hoping it will be received and logged in by Tuesday so I can submit Wednesday.
 
Uh, has anyone recived notification that transcripts were recived? Maybe they don't notify us anymore?
 
At least I'm not the only one who hasn't gotten notification. Maybe my schools were just lazy and/or AMCAS is overloaded. Hoping they will get there soon!

I'm thinking the bottleneck is the schools, especially because AMCAS tells us that they're updating transcripts received on a certain day. I'm pretty sure that each school is really busy right now sending out transcripts - any student who is going to medical school, law school, dental school, pharmacy school, vet school, grad school, etc. will need to have their final transcripts sent somewhere.
 
Reapplying this year as well and hope this year turns out a lil better for me! Doing Drexel's IMS this year!
 
2013, my future classmates, I just wanted to bump th thread and to say that I have one more week and my postbacc is finished!!!!!!!! Boy, I can not wait. How is everybody doing? Is everybody planning on submitting on the 4th?
 
I will definitely not be ready on the 4th. My personal statement is killing me -- I am just at a complete loss about what to do with it. I feel like I need to rewrite the whole thing - it's just not working for me! I want to have a personal statement that is different, unique, and creative enough so that the person reading it will just have to invite me for an interview! I'm going to meet with my brother (who is an insanely brilliant writer and has a degree in English) later this work. Hopefully we'll work something out and I can submit early next week.

As long as I'm verified by July 1st, I'll be happy.
 
Yeah... looking to submit by June 10th here. I could submit on the 4th.. but it's not worth submitting an essay that's short of perfect (in my eyes)
 
I am having issues with my personal statement as well, I just can't seem to get it right and spend all my time just staring at the computer screen. I am reapplying and cannot believe it is that time again already!

AMCAS received my transcripts like 2 weeks ago and it still says "received" so I think that "currently entering" thing is a lie 🙄

Does anyone know about how long it takes from when you submit AMCAS to when you start getting secondaries? I have no idea the timeline when you actually submit things on time. 😛
 
I'm submitting the 4th. $310... *groan*. And I know mine is cheap due to a small school selection.

My university's transcripts have been recieved. The JuCo is still missing, hopefully they will come thru in the next couple of days. I actually requested it first!

Mine somehow made it's way up to 580$ 🙁 🙁 Darn you AMCAS, for stealing the money of poor struggling students... Anyway, I'll definitely be submitting on the 4th too. Does anyone know if you can submit at like midnight on the 4th, or if we have to wait until business hours?

Anyone have their transcripts actually mailed out before the 20th and still not have them 'received' by AMCAS?

Right now I've got 24 schools on my list and it's totalling $850. Not sure if I'm going to take some off or not, though.

Just wait until secondaries... I already calculated it out if I got secondaries at every single one of my schools I'm applying to, and it's going to be a little over $2000. At least with secondaries the checks will be spread out over a longer period of time rather than one big charge.
