Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My coworker that just announced his and his wife's pregnancy went to the doctor with her yesterday and the baby isnt growing well 🙁

They have to go back Monday, and then we'll know more.

I've had so many friends/family have baby issues with their first pregnancy it is making me and my gf a little anxious to get going....

everyone is getting pregnant around here. I am only drinking Poland Spring because I no longer trust the tap... I don't need a baby right now hehe

Well, if you haven't figure out WHY they are pregnant yet......

I'm sure as heck not gonna tell you.

Right now the count is 10 ppl from my high school class of about 100 have children... and I went to Catholic school 😀

EDIT: make that 12

That's the problem, Lyss.

It's more my college friends. Several of them that I was in their weddings are expecting or have children already.

My friends are getting married/having babies.
I'm just going to med school.

Well we know abstinence education isn't very good 🙂

I'm 30 so I'm sure the % is pretty high from my school.

AFAIK, I personally don't have any children.

I have this too. My high school friends are getting pregnant. My college friends are getting married/are married & planning for children soon... and I'm getting ready for anatomy  Maybe then i will find the answer to where babies come from!

Night Ms. Nola 🙂

Haha, I missed that last night. I think I'm getting closer and closer to being your classmate. Mr. Nola did the cost analysis and Baylor is a whopping $1500 more expensive than UF at the end of the four years ($110,500 for UF vs. $112,000 for Baylor). [<-- this is just for tuition and assumes that I never become a Texas resident which, believe me, I'm gonna be trying to do if I end up Houston-wards].

Unless someone offers me some serious money fast to change my mind I think I'm very happily headed to warm, sunny Houston next year. I'm so glad I ignored my mom's advice and applied to Baylor (she thought I wouldn't get in).

I've driven from here to south of Tampa, can't say it was a fun drive.

Where is from here?

GAH!!! I have crappy Abba songs stuck in my head now!!!:bang::bang::bang:

YOU ARE A DANCING QUEEEEEEN!

Isn't March 15th the day when they have to accepted at least as many students as they have slots? For example, let's say Xavier's School for Medically Gifted Youngsters has 100 slots, but traditionally over-accepts because not all accepted students matriculate (hypercompetitive environment, frequent sentinel attacks). By March 15th, they would have to have accepted 100 students. ...Right?

Right...If BD doesn't hear today he should seriously call by Monday.

Mon citron est fâché.

2 hours till my final...

Aw, j'adore les citrions, M. le funque munque. 😉

Haha, I want a baby! Gah, I can't believe I'm going to be putting it off 10 years for my career...🙁 (I've decided I'm not going to get preganant until after residency).

Its definitely weird.

I don't mind though. I'm not ready for marriage. Some of them aren't either. But they do it anyway, which is even scarier.
eh, some days I am. other days I have panic attacks. I would love to get married but I don't think I will be at a place in my life where it is feasible any time soon 🙁

I definitely think some of my friends rushed into marriages/babies without really thinking it through. I hope it works out but the odds are against them, unfortunately

Yeah, the guy who asked me out to prom in high school just had a baby a few months ago. I swear he just had her cause he was bored.

Being bored is NOT a good reason to have a child.

Yeah, I've been wondering about the whole wedding/marriage thing. Especially when I'm gonna be far from both my friends from home and my friends from college next year. And I won't have any sort of money to have a wedding, really.

I don't understand any of this French going around. 😕😕

I took 6 years of Spanish from middle school through high school.

Question about loans:

We can take out $8,500 in stafford subsidized loans

and

We can take out an additional $40,500 in stafford unsubsidized loans

???

(Is that correct?) I remember schools telling me this but I'm looking for it online without luck.

yes, it's the money thing that gets me a lot of the times. The idea of a wedding is great, but even a really cheap wedding is expensive... and then there's affording a marriage haha. I'm more worried about that. I don't want to depend on my parents when I get married... le sigh

I want one too.... 🙁

At the very least I'm waiting through med school.

Yeah, see the way I figure it, residency would be even harder to pop out one of those little suckers cause residency is such a huge time commitment.

Parce que parlez vous francais?

Je me suis specialisee en francais et musique a l'universite (pardon the total lack of accents I'm incredibly lazy.) Alors, oui, je parle francais un petit peu.

Haha, you took the *useful* language 😉 In retrospect I should have done that...

I know the first number is correct. Less sure about the unsub.

Anyone know the TOP amount of unsub we can take?

If me & the bf do decide to get married, we have floated the idea of having a lil Lyss during my 2nd or 3rd year of residency. i figure by then, depending on my field, I'll be pretty established & it won't be as intensive... I hope. I don't think I can wait till after residency!

Yeah, my parents couldn't help me out even if they wanted to, I'd imagine.

Speaking of which, I need Mr. Nola to get a great job in Houston in the next few months.

🙁😱🙁😱

:scared::scared:

I'm pretty sure those are the right numbers.

ugh I can't remember what the limit was... I think it's more than 40 tho. I could be horribly wrong.

Yeah that's where I've been hearing different things...(about the unsub)...thanks for confirming the subsidized loans.

Aww! A little Lyss!! 🙂🙂 The world would be a much better place with a little Lyss in it 😀.

Me either... but I have to find a fiance first!

OK, good. I think I'm going to be ok NOT taking out GradPlus loans at either Baylor or UF. That's my concern.

If it's >$40K, I bet I can manage. (Where it's $40K per year).

Well, see, you can get more than whatever this max is, but it would come from other places (grad PLUS loans, personal loans, etc)

Yeah, I figure living expenses will probably be less than $20K per year in Houston...maybe considerably less with Mr. Nola's help? Maybe I'm making this up?

(Baylor OOS tuition is about $28.5K)

O yes, Good morning everyone!

Est-ce que vous devez passer un exam?

Especially in Brooklyn this fall, haha.

http://www.finaid.org/loans/studentloan.phtml. Yup, it's 8500 subsidized and 40500 unsubsidized.

EDIT: Scratch that, 40500 is the total, so its 32000 for unsubsidized.
What's up with that email that Downstate sent about their institution. They must really be trying to improve rank and dispel the notion that the institution is a bad place to do research/

Yeah I think so. The traditional thinking for SUNY is Downstate = clinical experience and Stony Brook = research, so DS is trying to bump up their research profile I guess. With the $10 billion the NIH is supposed to get, they're trying to get their hands on some of that money, haha.

I definitely want to wait until Im done with residency... also, i am in no way ready for a baby now and I doubt i will be until about after residency anyway lol.. thankfully mr. ar agrees - if we stay together, we want to do everything on our terms, whenever we are ready 😍

I did not do well on my midterms.. 🙁 for my history midterm, i was worried that I misunderstood the question and I totallyy!!! did. thankfully the TA and prof gave me the benefit of the doubt ( i wroe about the decline of separate spheres instead of the rise but I definitely showed that I new the material for what I ws discussing lol) but i had to meet with my TA and talk about it.. sigh

oh and totally got a B- on my economics midterm, but out professor gave us a whole talk about how he doesnt care now, but only needs to see that we understand the basics by the time the final comes, so i stillhave chance at an A... or at least A- lol
thank god i dont have ot worry about grades..

i am however feeling much better! it was just a cold and it is mostly gone now. yay 😀

EDIT: nvm. I guess math isn't my strong suit this morning 😉
