I have some organic synthesis, which has really prepared me for any clinical research I do in the future. (*cough* 😛)

Yep, that means the admins responsible for the research program will have the funds available to support your research. So if you know you want to do some research (might as well, if you want to keep all possible doors open regarding residency) then it's less of a requirement and more of a boon AFAIK.

drizzt, UW doesn't have a research requirement but they do have a program that you can apply into for that kind of thing, right? Although it mainly ends up in a more or less useless "honors in research" or "distinction in research", something like that right?

Hopkins peds is definitely up there. But I think you'd want to gun for CHOP (Penn) or CHB (Harvard) as those are the two premier children's hospitals in the country. 😉

They have a pretty generous summer research program that is essentially a formality to apply to. I mean, honors/distinction isn't particularly useful but there are some very good labs that take people and in many times people can do research there throughout med school.

just so we're clear (and so i don't make a huge faux paux later on), when you say Penn (or anyone says it for that matter)--it is in reference to UPenn, and NOT penn state, correct???

Er yeah, Penn is UPenn is the University of Pennsylvania.. I think this is responsible for people confusing UPenn with Penn State because Penn State is much more of a national brand due to JoePa. But always remember to add in the "State" part of Penn State when you refer to it and there won't be any confusion that will make you look bad 😉

If you're in a good program and have good recs you'll be fine. Research is helpful but I wouldn't worry about gunning for it. There's not incredible levels of competitition for neo mainly beacuse it requires a peds residency.
 
We don't require a full research project, but I really really want to work with the department and get involved. Seems like research is the best way early on.

Plus, it shows commitment to the program to hang around from the beginning (and remain there for four years). Since I want to match there... might be useful 🙂

I worked that release night at Borders. Some jerk near the front of the line bought the book, flipped to the end, and spoiled it for everyone next to the registers.😱

The 4th one was bleh, the fifth one was pretty good, and the 6th one looks awesome. I cannot wait till July 17th... the sucky part is none of my friends like HP anymore, and my 13 year old brother told me he was too old for HP, so I will be waiting in line with a bunch of preteens waiting to see a movie that I am definitely too old for😳:laugh:

I've only seen up to the third one (which was awesome, courtesy of Guillermo del Toro)!


And as a random note, I saw a car with a license plate that had your (real) name on it today.😱

Why have you not watched the 4th and 5th one?

Oh and seriously? Which state? Cuz that means I cannot get that license plate in that state🙁 But most likely, if I were to waste my money on a vanity license plate, it would have something to do with monkeys...

That reminds me of the time when I volunteered in the Labor and Delivery dept. The OB/GYN's license plate read TROGYN, because he went to USC:barf: but he was an obgyn

Oh, I never got around to it!

Well, it was _______K, in VA, but I don't think he would've specified a K if _______ were not already taken. We're the national leaders in vanity plates, you know!

(Seen within the last 10 days: PHROGUE, PHD2BE, H1H0 AG, SNM 4VR, H8T-TRFC, GASZLLA)

(And before I saw SNM 4VR, I would've said "TELEUTE" took the cake...)
