Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm taking the MCAT May 10. I have study materials together and made a 13-week study schedule last week. It's crazy. So I'm doing that and trying to get my fiancé to get on the ball and figure out what he wants to study (math, physics, or economics), what graduate degree he wants to get, and what schools he likes best 🙄.

I still haven't really decided if I want to try and go MD/PhD or not. Thoughts on applying before deciding?

Here's my current list (in approximate descending order of my likelihood to get in)

University of Kansas (in-state)
U Toledo (fiancé in-state)
Wright State (fiancé in-state)
Ohio State (fiancé in-state)
Rosalind Franklin
Rush
Loyola
U Chicago
U Colorado
Northwestern

Obviously, it's Kansas, western Ohio, or Chicago.

BUMP. This thread needs to stay on the front page. It's our turn! No offense to the 2012 people (and yes, I know the process is still far from over for you guys).

ditto! how's everyone's classes/ecs/.mcat prep etc?

thinking of extending my list a bit... but want to remain in area. if my april scores are awesome I may add another reach or two...

I've been studying off and on since January. I'll be taking in exactly 2 months. I need to do well. I don't want to have to mentally prepare myself to retake in May because I did bad in April. I'll take a few practice exams. I need to get physics down (I took it last year) and refresh orgo. Luckily my analytical and thermo class reviewed a lot of gen chem.

Working to my advantage is taking intermediary biochemistry now (glycolysis, etc) along with genetics. I won't have to really study those sections.

I'm shooting for 30+, because if I don't make it its going to be a rough season.

Postbacc classes are going good. I have an immunology midterm on friday. Next quarter is the end of my postbacc. I am taking Advanced Intergrative Physiology, Excercise in Aging and Disease and Neurobiology of Addictive Drugs. I am praying super hard that I get accepted into Howard. I love that school, I might be slightly obsessed. We will see, God bless yall.

I'm beginning to think that 16.5 credit hours plus studying for the MCAT was a bad idea. Several of my classmates took a 2-hour independent study for MCAT prep. But I love my classes! Pre-med courses are finally letting up this year (I'm only in Physics) so that I can take things for fun. I made my schedule for next year and am out of science classes I want/need to take.

Or maybe you're asking what my stats are. In that case...

Biology major, chemistry & bible minors. I've done all the pre-med classes except calc (not worth it to me... I'm not applying anywhere that requires it) and biochem (next year) plus several extra bio classes and statistics. GPA is something like 3.3.

Pre-studying MCAT was 29 (11V 9P 9B). I'm now studying (using Exam Krackers materials) and shooting for a minimum of 32.

looks amazing! best of luck with that schedule and mcat. my load is light this time so that I have extra study time, but the first two trimesters of the year killed me... took all my prereqs. this time I just have organic ii and genetics... and some graduate work. doesn't seem bad at all. we just started this week but my syllabi aren't bad and I've had the profs before so they are predictable.
not fond of having all 8 am classes, however, it gives me tons of time to study so it'll be worth it.

It's going well! My post-bacc should end up somewhere around a 3.9 and I now have the option to go to two SMPs, so at least I have somewhere to go if I don't get a hail mary pass from McGill this year! So there's still a slim chance that I won't be joining you guys next year. But if I am...

All your acceptance are belong to us!

Im glad we finally made it o the 3rd page. I was getting a lil worried. Just writing to bump the thread. Hope classes and MCAT studying is going well for everybody. God bless yall.

doing my best to enjoy the mcat studying as much as possible. I feel like the more I can actually assimilate into it the better it'll be. my last practice scores were 27 and 31... with two months, I'm feelin pretty good considering my disastrous scores from last cycle. the pressure to do well is high, as I've now had my prereqs...

anyone else feelin the pressure yet?

I am thinking of applying EDP to WFU. What do yall think?

I am thinking of applying EDP to WFU. What do yall think?

Is that where your heart is set on going? Would you choose them over any other school? If so I say go for it. 👍 I know if Howard had EDP I would apply.

I'm scared to do EDP, especially as a re-app. I need all the chances I can get.

Plus, I don't have a favorite of my picks... I want to be where God wants me, and I have a feeling He'll make that well known.

But best of luck to you all doing EDP! It's a great way to get an answer early!

Yeah Im scared too and a little reluctant, but I talked to a Dean and he said I should do it if I really want to go to wake. Especially for a school like Wake, they want to know that YOU want to go there, so EDP is a good way to do it. THe only problem would be if I blew the interview I would be so late at other school.

Good luck class of 2013!!!!🙂

As soon as I get through the last of my 4 exams in a week I'm going to actually open that Kaplan book I bought. I took my first practice MCAT last weekend and got a 29...so I think by June 13 I'll be in pretty good shape.

I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I am so excited. Thanks for making a thread just for this group. Great idea. I will take my MCAT in April and apply June 1st! I am MCAT crazy right now, anxiety level at about an 11 on a 1-10 scale. But more than anything I am just itching to start this process.

Oh and I just got my Audio Learn Cds in the mail that I bought on ebay. I'm in the car for 1.5 hours a day, so I figured I might as well put it to good use. I can't wait to start listening to them! Wow, that really makes me sound dorky.

class of 2013 here i come
will be taking the june 13 MCAT
best of luck!!!!!!!!

hey I understand abt the dorky... been watching the GS DVDs and they are great! I've made it through all of gen chem, half of physics, half of organic, and I'm on my first dvd of bio. I think Dr. Ferdinand is really filling in some gaps I've had in my brain and I'm hoping my next practice test reflects it.

Wassup Everybody! I am getting ready for my Immunology exam tomorrow morning. How is everyboody doing?

oooh sounds fun! Doing well here, trying to get used to new classes (we're on trimester system). I love genetics so far... orgo ii is ok, just more of the same lol.

think my grad class will be a blast, it is my first actual counseling class (techniques of group counseling), or the first class of my graduate degree that i'll actually get to counsel outside people in (granted it is a very minimal experience since we aren't liscensed yet).

A light load means plenty of time to study for the mcat and make this the best year ever! 🙂

I sure envy you guys with the light loads. I am taking a full schedule of classes and I can barely find time to fit any MCAT studying in at all. I hope I can be ready for May😱

What DVDs are they? I have been using Exam Krackers stuff.
Thanks

Graduating undergrad in April

Mcat In May

Applying early June.

Wow cant believe how this last year flew by...Gotta keep on track with studying for the MCAT and rock it if I wanna have any chances....

its the gold stanard (mcat-prep.com) stuff. that I know of, its the only dvds that are done.

really cool, cause its like a condensed lecture (but at the same time its a little more complete than the ek) and integrates the visual-aural into one.

I stilll love ek and audio osmosis, but adding the video component has heightened my prep (i think). we shall see in less than two months! ahhhh

So I may be in here with you guys 🙁 Not that there is anything wrong with the company of course 😉

I've gotten a bunch of waitlists and as time goes by I've gotten only silence from my other schools I interviewed at, so it's looking more and more like 2013 may be my year. Thought I'd say hi 🙂

Hey all- I can't believe how close we are to MCAT and Application time! Here is my lil update:

Classes- standing with all A's right now (histology, ecology, world civ, and a sports elective)

Does anyone know how much your junior year GPA matters- I will have a 4.0 for this year but had a really bad semester freshman year and around a 3.5 sophomore year???

Extracurriculars-
Busy working 15 hours a week
Playing volleyball- intramurals for now then starting a rec league (Women's Power) in March!!!
About to return to my volunteer position (took off a couple months when I got diagnosed with a chronic disease)
Finished one research project and am looking into another one
Oh and busy giving campus tours, shadowing, etc...

MCAT Prep- I am about 2 weeks into my intense study session- feeling better about the material and in a few weeks will take another practice test
*my diagnositic was a 25 but that was last fall (october) before completing Organic 2 or Physics 1... I will be taking MCAT without Physics 2 and just teaching myself that material- which I can do- I had AP Physics in HS.

DrC - That 4.0 will definitely help your GPA! It's never too late to bring it up! May take a little longer, cause you have more hours and such, but don't stress... you can do it.

To dd128, I understand the c/o 2012 not giving 😍. Reapplicants rock! Best of luck next year.... it's OUR time to shine!

Made a 10/11/9 on yesterday's practice test. Another 30 under the belt. Wasn't happy at ALL with that BS section, but I've been reviewing those GS dvds for the PS sections and I feel like things are clicking. I still have 2 DVDs of Organic and all the biology ones left... so hopefully that will change my luck with BS this time.

Guess I'll be filling AMCAS out then too...any TUSM BA/MD program people here?

my organic class is like hybrid inorg/org because my professor likes inorg better.... and considering I aced inorg I and ii and org I, I'm feelin good abt org ii.

why is every organic class in every university at 8 am or before? do they want us to hate it before we start?

Bump!!! God bless yall!

I got my MCAT scores yesterday and I am getting ready to apply. I am currently working in a research lab and will continue this for next few months. I will graduate this May. Good luck to everyone. It's been a long road and I am exhausted but glad to see that a few of us are out there. I just joined SDN and looking forward to sharing in the process.

It's our time now! I'm really excited that after all of these years, we are only 2 months away from beginning the process of becoming physicians! I have my MCAT done, and personal statement only needs final touches. All that's left are LORs and semester grades.

With research credits and preceptorship, I've taken 45 units this year (standard is 30)!!
My reward for making it this far is that my course load next semester will consist of French, Chinese, and Music!

Does anybody else have anything they're looking forward to after applications go out? Good luck to everyone and lets all finish strong!

looking forward to having more free time in general and more time to spend on medical related experience as well. I have enough for my application probably, but I'd love to get a parttime job at one of our local hospitals.

gotta finish orgo and genetics, mcat, and applications... and ill have a fairly lazy year next year (one to two graduate classes a trimester, and that's it besides my medical work). looking forward to it after the schoolyear from hell and a harried/stressful first app cycle that was too late and too illprepared.

let's kick some med school butt!!

congrats on the good grades- I feel you about the 8am thing... my orgo 1 class was that way- and in all honesty I missed a ton of classes- and it hurt my grade

my Organic 2 class however was happily at 8PM!!! It worked so much better for me- A!

I got a 100 on my histology lab midterm that made for a great week

in other news- my volleyball team (intramural coed) advanced to the championship and I am signed up officially for a team down in Atlanta for women's power volleyball!

Spring break is next week and I have got to start my personal statement- to me that is going to be the HARDEST part! I am terrified of it at the moment!

Hey yall. I had a pretty good week myself, I got an A on my Immunology midterm! 😀 So far this quarter I have 2 A's and a B. Lord willing I can get that B up to an A and then go into my last quarter of the postbacc full steam ahead. God bless yall!

Things are going well for me, Ive had to put off my Rescue squad work and athletics because of my knee though, but my research is going well and I will be presenting in a month. I also think imma retake the MCAT.

Best of luck to the rest of yall.

Just checking in with my future classmates. God bless yall.

Hello future colleagues! 😀
I am also applying this summer for entry in Fall 2009. Already took the MCAT, now just have to start figuring out my personal statement. Good luck to those of you taking it in the coming months!!

wow! you decided to retake, huh?! well, good for you! you can probably pull off a 35+.

you can do it!!! my practices are hoverin 28-32. I'm working hard and praying for a 30.

genetics test this morning wasn't bad, and this is our last week before spring break. wooohoo.
