Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Doing good, sittin here tryin to study but I am having a hard time getting started. Where are you located with the bad weather?

Things here in Philly are solid. It was 60 degrees today, so I went for a short run. I'm just waiting for this week to be over, because spring break is coming up next week. And I'm spending spring break... here... since I need to write up my personal statement and other essays to prepare for the application process! I'm guessing the application process will be dominating my life for the next year or so. God willing, I shall be ready.

Amwatts, you're retaking with a 31? Well, I did that myself (though the 31 was 3 years ago) and I pulled the 35 last September. So, since it can be done, I wish you the best of luck. With that GPA+EC's, a 35 would give your application a big boost.

I'm in south mississippi. it got pretty **** rough here last night weather wise. just got back ourfirst organic two quiz and I made an A so things are looking good here today. i'll be beyond ecstatic if I can finish my orgo series with all A's. Eight weeks left postbacc premed hell. next year I'm going to take a course or two I'm interested in, but nothing major.

45 days til mcat. crunch time to figure out my problems and make some serious progress. it is almost over! 🙂🙂

it is supposed to be in the 60's today here in Killadelphia. Too bad I have to stay in all day doing work....grrrrrrrrrrr....

Well...for some reason now I am starting to get particularly anxious about applying this coming year....just a few weeks ago I was telling everybody else to chill...tranquilo...calmate

Best wishes to everyone!

I havent signed up for it yet, but my first practice test was promising so I am pretty sure I will.

What's up, Rice? I feel you on BOTH! It's supposed to be in the 60s here in DC as well, but I have an Epidemiology mid-term to study for! Also, I'm starting to get nervous about the upcoming apps...I have NO IDEA how to even start thinking about my personal statement...So much I want to say but how to say it so it comes across well to the adcoms?!

Where are my '13 people applying? I am still figuring out my list, but it will probably be mostly big city schools! 😍

Everywhere, but Honestly I would probably be more happy in a smaller city.

I really really really really want to go to Howard. I probably have said that multiple times on here, but I really want to go there. Meharry, Morehouse, UCLA/Drew and some others. Keep working hard, our time is almost here. God bless yall.

Probably applying most everywhere on the east coast and in the parts of the midwest where I'm from. I have a huge list so far on my mdapps, and I'm going to keep adding/removing from the list in the coming months. My #1 choice would be to go home to the University of Michigan, since its a great school and I get in-state tuition, but we all know how competitive it is. Other than that, I'll go to most places that accept me and my lousy uGPA.

Killadelphia's got some nice temperatures today (60's), too bad its cloudy and I have a quiz to study for.

I have a friend finishing up at Meharry and she had a great overall experience there! As for Howard, I'm sure you've visited DC, but it's such a great city! There are TONS of opps to work with the undersved here, one thing I really really like about it. I too would like to be here for MedSchool...GW would be AMAZING, and is probably my top choice!! :luck:

my school list is university of mississippi (instate) university of south alabama, university of alabama, lsu, and tulane.

had a good shot at UMC (mississippi) this year so I feel confident about my chances there next year.

pwned my first genetics test, woohoo. another practice mcat today. *crossin fingers*

Today's practice test = not so good 🙁

AAMC 7 - 27 8/10/9. GRRR. It's times like this I could become frustrated and overwhelmed.

Instead, I think I'll take a nap and resume studying. Six weeks to go. Oh ****!!!!!!!

First, Gradu8, don't worry, my practice scores didn't start to go up a lot until the last 3 weeks of my studying...hang in there!

Anyways, I'm also planning on a lot of northeast/midwest schools. Dream(s) would be (in order, I think): UMich, UPenn, Northwestern

Hopefully, though, I get into UMD cause it's in-state. Check out my mdapps, it's lonely.

Peace everyone

Thanks, Doc. Did you change anything or just keep doing the same type thing and your scores jumped? I bought new copies of EK 1001's Orgo and Physics to redo them and I'm planning on hitting GChem hard out of the TPR Science Workbook in the next couple weeks.

In state schools are the best. Cheapest for me by a long shot. If I get in, UMC would be hard to pass up monetarily.

No, actually, I didn't change much at all. I was already pretty much done reviewing everything at that point. It was much more of just reviewing my weak spots and getting the strategy down. You really need to get a feel for the questions/passages. I think I started to just have confidence in what I knew and one day I just got a 34, and the next day a 36. I hope this is encouraging. Just don't freak out in the middle of the sections, have confidence. Best of luck.

Edit: A big thing for me, was at first, I would always stop or kind of halfway give up and become discouraged if I encountered a couple hard problems. Don't do this. Just keep going through the section doing the best you can. Worry about your performance -after- the test.

Hey sounds like everyone is still doing good!

I got quite a bit of studying done over my spring break but am pretty burnt out now- ugh!

I also did a day of shadowing which was fun as usual!

And worked around 30 hours this week...

so now I can move back to "normal" life... I have volleyball intramural championships in a week which is awesome and then I start another league the day after championships. I think that is what keeps me sane as I prep for MCAT and handle a full course load and work!

School list is really long- you can see my MDAp.

But top choices- Emory, MCG, GW, UT's (texas and any of them), and anywhere in NYC.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to say hello and good luck! I'm looking forward to going through the process with everyone!

Another '13 hopeful checking in here too...

I'm trying hard right now to get some shadowing opportunities lined up for my spring break, gah!

Keep up the good work everyone 🙂

Definitely, just keep practicing.. get some Berkeley Review books, Kaplan passages, practice exams... anything to just get some practice. Ultimately, practice, not reviewing stuff, goes a LONG way towards preparing you to take the actual MCAT imo. If you need some info and extra practice material, PM me and I can point you in that direction. Did you take the Kaplan course?

Anyways, if y'all have any suggestions for my list of schools (listed in my mdapps), feel free to comment.

On SPRING BREAK now and I'm still here in Killadelphia working on my personal statement and studying for my chem exam next week. Awesome.

ewww chem. wasn't a fan. ochem isn't as bad to me, but I still don't like it. i'll be glad to get this one (the last one) out of the way.

spring break studying continues. watching oprahs big give then off to bed. early morning at the endo center. I love shadowing 🙂

wow you all are working hard for your spring breaks...i'm not gonna be working at all during my spring break but am going on tour with my acappella group on the west coast and then visit friends at other schools at the tail end of it

Hope all is well. God bless.

Wassup everybody! How is everybody doing today? I am really looking forward to this app cycle. I am feeling more confident everyday, especially cuz I am doing well in my postbacc. I spoke to the director of admissions at my #1 choice and she told me that I am the most determined person she knows! That brought a smile to my face 😀. I am hoping that will come in handy during the cycle. I had something to ask but I forgot, when I think of it I will be back! God bless.

that's great BD2B!!

I'm feeling great myself.. its like everyday I shadow I'm more sure that i'm doing the right thing and I can't wait to get in there!

Im hoping during my spring break I can get a lot of shadowing in. That is one of the things I wanna do. Besides that I hope to have my ps done, get sleep, and play lots of video games. I just got guitar hero for my wii so I am gonna get real good at that.

Bump! 👍😀

oh yeah...things are quickly heating up!

1 .My ps is already done...now my focus is just rewording one sentence of it without going over the limit (I am already at the limit).

2. I have to send out my letter or rec requests this week

3. I have to work on my med school list (trying to pare down 60 potentials to approx 30)

4. Then I have to start on the TMDSAS essay and get that out of the way.

5. Then finally...by late April/early May I hope to be using the secondary prompts on SDN to begin writing secondary essays!!!

Best of luck to you all!!!!

i'm so glad that you're able to apply this year.

exciting stuff!! make sure you apply to baylor!

I definitely will be applying to Baylor...one of my top choices right now!

Thanks for all the support

shadowing was great as usual. all done for now... gonna pick up a medsurg shadowing in a month or so. back to studying fulltime for mcat, then i'll be working on starting lors and finishing ps in april so it can all be done very early.

Class of 13 rocks already!

Woot. Just checkin' in with my class of '13. I'm taking the MCAT on May 10. It'd probably be premature to start putting together a list of schools without knowing where I'd be competitive at, huh?

Looks like I'm in the same boat. Good luck everyone! :luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck: (And Happy St. Patrick's Day!!)

Hey guys, I'm really excited to finally be part of a group of people who are applying to med-school! I've spent a lot of time on these forums in the past year or so reading about people applying, and feeling their fears / anxiety through their messages, and i guess it's our turn.

Taking May 27th MCAT, fighting valiantly for some desperately needed As, shadowing some doctors, and starting to compile ideas / answers for that AMCAS essay. (By the way...how much importance / time do you think I should invest into that essay?)

Anyway, good luck to you all, and I'll be seeing you all on these forums for the many weeks we have ahead of us. Happy hunting!

well, shadowing has ended for spring break. back to the horror that is mcat and the world before medicine. sigh.

anyone else just ready to BE THERE?
Not me, I am just trying to enjoy my time in college.

I'm over college... after two undergrad degrees and a year post bacc lol. I love the small college I attended, but I'm tired of organic and readyto be in useful classes!

Hey Class of 2013! I am getting ready to reapply after two years, and CANNOT WAIT to actually go to medical school this time 😛

I hope the changes I have made make a difference. I have been getting my masters in bioethics and certificate in global health, volunteering at a free health care center, took a medical school elective and the teacher is going to write me an LOR, and I work as a student nursing assistant at a psychiatric clinic. I have also been published for undergraduate research since my last application.

I did not retake the MCAT, hopefully that was not the problem. I got a 33, but kind of a bad distribution P9/12/12. I have not contacted schools to see what I can improve as of yet, I meant to and time just kept getting away. Would it seem weird/rude to do that now? Since I apply in a few months?

Also, does anyone know how LOR's work for reapplicants that have not taken any more science classes? How many can I add and do I still need to use science ones?

I also would like to say I love this thread, I feel bumped up after feeling confined to the reapplicant thread lol

Best of Luck to Everyone!!! 😉

I'm a reapp too carly 🙂. your improvements sound great. best of luck!

I'm hoping my 3.71 up to 3.91, additional (already) sixty hours of shadowing, and yet to be determined mcat improvement makes me a bit more marketable.

*praying for a 30*

Carly you have a great app, just apply wisely.

Good luck everyone!!!
