I start my next shadowing adventure after work today. OBGYN. VERY excited.

Meeting with the doc at 5ish (he's on call) for tour and get to know you type thing. Threw scrubs in the car, just in case there is a baby to be born this evening 🙂

I just finished polishing up my ninth (and thinking final draft). Out of curiosity, do you guys think it's appropriate to refer to a doctor by his first name (that's what he asked me to call him) or just use the formal Dr. LastName reference? Doesn't make a difference in terms of characters, but what sounds better?

Hopefully submitting tomorrow. I really don't think there's anything else I can change that would significantly alter the outlook of my PS.

I wouldn't want them to NOT have a personal comments section.. I think a significant chunk of my application success will depend on that essay. I wonder how that would go if it was an "optional" section though.

My feeling is that since adcoms reading the app don't know that he asked you to call him by his first name, it might be better to use Dr. _______.
 
I clicked submit today and I feel like I aged 5 years with that click. Who else is DREADING THIS???

first batch of applications wont be sent to med schools until the 24th, so I'd say first week of july you'll be receiving a flood of secondaries, dont be throwing around that R word yet

It was amazing! I actually scrubbed in and after the placenta was out the nurse let me hold it!! 🙂🙂

The whole thing wasn't nearly as bloody as I thought! it was my first surgery surgery and I didn't even feel nauseous.

That's awesome!!! I've shadowed an Ob/Gyn too and got to see 2 c-sections.... one was an emergency c-section and the baby was only 29 weeks!! He was so tiny!

Have you gotten to see a vaginal birth?? I've only seen half (first 2 hrs) of one... I had NO idea how long it could take! Unfortunately it was getting late and had to leave before the baby was delivered 🙁

It was one bad test 😛 Really, really hard sciences, easy verbal. So, I'm practically dead. I was exhausted by bio and was barely focused, which scares me! But, it's done!!! Now, I'm waiting for scores (like you!).
Ooo and I would have voided if it wasn't for Vihsadas. He said to never void...I hope he's right! 😉

berk, DON'T freak out about hard sciences. I thought my BS was killer (I seriously would have been happy with an 8) and, well, you can look at my MDApps to see how it turned out...

yay! I hope that's true. I just feel crappy because I wasn't...completely focused. I feel like I could have done much better. Ohh well. I hope it turns out all right! :scared:

No vag. births yet (last night was my first time with this dr), but I've got his call schedule and am supposed to call him any time to see what is going on. Next weekend is the first time he has call this month 🙂

The baby he delivered last night was 33 weeks gest. She was tiny, but strong and screaming. I got hooked as soon as I heard that cry...
 
Berk, I was totally with you on the sleeping after mcat bit. The whole thing kinda felt like being run over with a mack truck, repeatedly, for 4.5 hours.

Your hard sciences is probably a good thing. Chances are everyone found them hard 😉

Nah. I still have my responses from last cycle, but I'm sure they need to be reworked. I've just been taking a break from all this med school application stuff since it's been occupying my time for going on 13 months now. I set the arbitrary starting point for my secondaries for the day I get verified. I wasn't today, so it looks like my weekend is wiiiiiiiide open!

I guess if it were a job or volunteering it would go on the primary. If it's a summer class, then I think you can just send a transcript to the schools. Not sure if there's a typical letter that would be included with that though.

many ppl can't account for these activities though.. (esp if you've submitted the AMCAS)

One question though - I noticed all a few schools have online secondaries through the ApplyYourself system. Did you guys use the same account for all the schools? Or made separate accounts for each school? Does it matter?

Hmm...good question. I made separate accounts for Hopkins and Columbia, but then I tried using the Secondary ID #s given for each school at the other school's secondary website, and both worked on each site.

Does anyone who applied last year know how this works?
