Class of 2013!!!

Hi

I am new to SDN. Awesome forum. I was watching Olympics and reading through SDN threads. Glad to see that many of you are planning your interview trips. I completed most of of my secondaries in June and mid-July. I was hoping to be in the first set of applications to be reviewed. All of my LORs reached the undergraduate office by June 1, but the school now says that all LOR packets will go out betwen Agust 15th and September 15th. I am not very happy about it. Is anyone in the same boat ? Does this reduce my chances of getting interviewed/accepted in the schools that have rolling admission ?

There are many people in the same position as you. It's not going to reduce your chances of getting in...but you're going to have to be patient. 😉

Man, that's like the worst thing you could possibly hear as a med school applicant. Waiting sux!

Sigh...seriously. If I think about the fact that I'm waiting on 25 more interview decisions, I want to vomit. These past 2 WEEKS have been rough enough, so waiting until next year is just gonna be inhuman torture.

Yeah. Waiting is the life we've chosen though. Good thing SDN is around, I think everyone else I know is getting tired of hearing me whine about waiting. Bit of good news for me today though, I got my MCAT scores. At least that part of my wait is over.

Yeah, SDN helps me feel not so alone in all this, especially since I'm not in school anymore.

How'd you do on the MCAT? Get a score you wanted?

Your MCAT scores rock the house. If you don't get in, none of us have a chance! 🙂🙂

How's everyone doing? Getting ready for vacation here and couldn't be more excited.

Aww, man. I could really go for a vacation right now. It's starting to get that feeling in the air that fall is fast approaching. I just want to head to a beach somewhere to put off the chilly weather as long as I can.

Hey Grad! I am doing good. Trying not to stress. I am moving back home to LA this weekend while trying to finish up these secondaries. Although my decision has been made for me on some of the secondaries cuz some don't accept fee waivers and I can't afford them so, oh well. Just thankful for the ones I have and accept the fee waiver.

I did, thanks! 40Q. I'm so excited. Just the boost I needed to keep working on secondaries. Hang in there everybody!!!!!!

Man, I am kind of bothered that I fell for it! Haha! We have been doing good in here too. We haven't had any trolls have we? Hopefully this one will be the last!

I am planning to visit medical schools that are less than 3 hrs away from home before going back to school. I want to see the school and possibly talk to someone in the admissions office to get a feel for the school. Has anyone done that here ? Any suggestions ?

Good morning my future classmates. How is everybody doing today? I am doing good. Just sent in 2 more secondaries(Morehouse & Meharry). Now I have a couple more to do. I can't wait until Howard's gets released. How is the process coming along for everybody else?

Still hanging out in a holding pattern. I have an interview next week I'm getting psyched up for, but everything else is in a standstill. I kinda wish I was just done already.

Congrats on the interview. Where is it at?

Hey all. How's life? I'm staring at Duke's secondary, two and a half essays to go. Aw yeah.

Things are great here! Just talked to my boss about a new job... I'm moving up to Fulltime, but front desk secretary in my "home office" where I am much much happier and more comfortable than where I was this summer.

The pay isn't great, but they will pay for my classes, and I was gonna be here 20+ hrs a week anyway, plus they'll let me off anytime for interviews or anything else I need.

Well, my Vandy rejection arrived today 🙁. Its all good though. Means it isn't where I'm supposed to be.

Vacation is well on its way and my new job is going to be wonderful. Absolutely nothing to complain about. God is so good!

Hey! So sorry about Vandy...and yeah, I'm also a huge believer in the "everything happens for a reason" philosophy. My undergrad was not my top choice, but after knowing how happy I was there, and after having experienced a little bit of my top choice through summer classes and such, I realized it really was the very best place for me. I'm sure it'll be the same for you, and you'll go to a totally amazing med school. It'll be lucky to have you!!!!

PS- a vacation sounds LOVELY.

I agree with LET...it's all for the best! I'm sure great news will come soon.

LET- you seem to have a beautiful collection of interviews! Congratulations!!! What happened today!?

Hahaha thank you! It's kind of insane. So, I woke up this morning to a NYMC interview invite, which is lovely, but before I could schedule it I decided to email all the other NYC schools I applied to so I could tell them that I'd be in NYC probably around end of september/ beginning of october, and since I live in CA, I asked them to please put in my file that I'd be around during that time just in case they were going to interview me. ANYWAYS, they all wrote me back being like "well its really early still but we'll keep in mind if an interview is forthcoming" which is pretty much the response I expected. I sent them all back emails like "ok thanks a lot" but because Sinai is one of my top three choices I also added something like "Sounds great, thanks so much for your help. I'd fly pretty much any time for Sinai though so it doesn't really matter". An hour later I had an interview invite!!!!! (and a mild heart attack). I am more excited than I can even describe, Sinai would be a dream come true.

Anyways, a good day today altogether. Oh, I heard about YOUR good news, Berk! CONGRATS!!!!! Am I going to get to meet you? 😀

OMG!!!! I didn't know the story was that exciting! AMAZING! Now, you're really glad you sent them that email!

Thank you! I was really excited as well. I haven't done the vandy secondary yet, but when I get the interview dates, I'll try and schedule it the same day! 😉 That would be really cool that we are only 1 hour driving away here, but meet in Tennessee! 😛

Hahahaha that's true. That'd be ridiculous. Well, I hope we can meet....at least at UCSF second look, after we get in 😉

And yeah, I'm definitely glad I sent them that email. I might write to all the east coast schools I applied to actually and see if I can just make one big trip and hopefully interview at a couple of places before coming back to Cali. We'll see. I dont want to push my luck 😀

Congrats again, have fun with the autobiography hahaha

Guess who got their first interview invite.... 😀

University of Vermont on September 23rd. I'm shocked beyond words - I never EVER expected to get an interview there of all places. It's one of the schools that I considered pretty unlikely, and I added it at the last second before submitting my AMCAS. Now I'm SO glad I did! Woo hoo! Plus I found a round trip flight from Richmond to Burlington for just $200 (including taxes/fees)! I'm stoked!

And I also got a job offer to work in a show at a local amusement park in the fall. It's great because the show only runs about 6 weeks and will just be on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. There will be 3 guys and 3 girls in the show, and it's composed of mostly singing and dancing. Rehearsals start in the second week of September so I'm super excited about that (and it won't conflict with my UVM interview because the show begins on September 20th!) What a wonderful, crazy day it has been! :hardy:

:zip:A friend of mine got a vermont interview last year. He stayed there for a week because he said it was so beautiful! You're going to love it! CONGRATULATIONS!

Thank you so much! I'm still in shock - I never expected my first invite to come from Vermont. Honestly it's the perfect climate for me. In Burlington, the average high/low in July is 81/60 and in January it's 27/9. Gotta love the cold and snow! 👍

Hey guys,

Busy week, huh? Grad, I'm so happy for you in your new job, it sounds perfect. Vandy doesn't know what they missed. Chad, UVM was my first invite too! I AM SO EXCITED! This is one of the schools that I was ambivalent about when I added it to AMCAS, and have gotten more and more interested as things have gone along. I didn't expect to get an invite since I'm OOS. 😀😀 Congrats bud, the job sounds great too.

LET - girl you crack me up. You are destroying this cycle, I just plan to ride your coattails. 😉

Wow, it looks like things are really starting to pick up for the 2013 crew. :woot:

Let's kick some ass and take some names!

Yaaaaaay!!! Congrats Chad, you deserve it!!! I kinda wish I'd applied to UVM too since they seem to have really good judgment in the people they interview...and apparently all my favorite SDN peeps are gonna end up there. No fair! party in Burlington?!

Woohooo first interviews! And hahahaha thanks, I honestly have no idea what happened yesterday, it was kind of a crazy day. We'll see how the rest of the cycle goes, but so far I'm definitely thrilled. If I get into one of my top choices, I'll have a whole lot of Thank You notes to send....
