EDIT: Guess not. hmm....I'll fool with it tomorrow.

PS. I really like the one about parallel fifths 😀 Made me grin. I actually really like music theory...hehe.

Edit: I posted a photo album in my profile. Maybe you can grab it from there.

Just got back from my Maryland interview. The first interview went fine - basic questions, etc. Then in the second interview I got GRILLED. There were probably 7-8 hypothetical ethical situations that dominated the interview time... I hope I did well - I really love that school. I was the only OOS applicant there (out of 15 interviewees) and that was a little strange...

Just got back from my Maryland interview.

Glad to hear the interview went well 🙂🙂 I almost applied to Maryland but decided against it at the last minute...

8:52pm: I'm doing a presentation on the safety and sanitation of expressed breast milk...(how to keep it from spoiling, what are the best conditions for storage, how long can you keep it for, etc.)

I love being a grad student 😀.

Isn't grad school fun sometimes? Haha.
I'm glad you got it - and that you like it 🙂

I hope it went well for you. Good luck, and if you felt weird being from VA which shares a giant border with Maryland, how weird will it be for me... I like the school also and was sold on their institute for molecular virology, which would be awesome to research in. So you are saying I should read up on ethical questions? I want to be well prepared for the interview.

^yep, I have to say, I really enjoy grad school. I love learning about really interesting, practical types of everyday considerations. My grad degree is significantly more 'practical' than my undergrad degrees. Perhaps that's a reversal from what most people experience...

I only felt weird because I was the only person not from Maryland. While the other applicants were talking about which counties and high schools they are from, I was just sitting there clueless. Plus, if I remember correctly, you are interviewing on 11/5 which is a day when there will be a lot of other OOS students as well.

As far as the ethical stuff goes, my interview was apparently quite abnormal. Most of the interviewers there will ask you questions about your activities, why medicine, why Maryland, etc., so you don't need to overly prepare anything. If you do get an ethical question that you're unsure of, just go with your gut and make sure to explain why you'd act in a certain way. It's more about your reasoning skills than picking the "correct" answer (there really is no correct answer a lot of the time, though).

Good luck and let us know how it goes! Maryland is an AWESOME school (and did you know they only have 2 hours of lecture a day?!? SWEET!)

Sounds kinda like Tulane, chad. They refuse to have more than half the day filled with lecture. It's a neat idea. Apparently it works for some schools! 🙂

Sorry I've been MIA folks, hope everyone is doing well! Got back from my Rochester interview yesterday. All I can say is WOW, what an amazing place. I would feel extremely privileged if I got a chance to go there. 😀

In other news, I have my first graduate school exam on Friday, for which I have yet to begin studying. And my dry spell for invites has finally been broken today (although LET would probably consider my 1 1/2 week run as far from dry) - I got a call from the director of admissions (WOW again) asking if I could interview there in 3 days, although I will have to postpone cause I'm booked for the next couple months.

Hey congratulations on the interview/interview invite! Too bad you can't just go get it over with, but at least you know you got one.

You're right! That's a pathetic excuse for a dry spell! Try a MONTH!!!!

Hmph.

But congrats!!! 😀

Haha yes... it's painful.. but funkmonk's "happy thoughts" worked.. my dry spell was broken this morning when I checked my status with Mayo, because I hadn't heard anything from them in 7 weeks or so, and they told me that I had an interview invite in the mail 🙂 🙂 🙂 . I can't think of a better way to break the dry spell!

Sounds like it's been a good week of interviews for everyone, I'm glad to hear it!

LET, you won't feel it, because you have an awesome week ahead of you. Just think happy thoughts, and it will be awesome. Tell us how they go!
My dry spell of a day was broken today. Just be thankful and it will work. It has been for me, I mean two invites this week and it is only Wednesday...:soexcited:
Maybe Penn or UCLA will want to join Maryland and Mt. Sinai.

By the way copperfrog, congrats and so freaking jealous. You are one lucky froggy...

Haha dry spell of a day, monkey? Congrats on Sinai!
My dry spell of 2 weeks (is that considered a dry spell, LET?) was broken today too. Hopefully, LET will get some great news by the end of the week and join our celebration. 😀

Pfft... all of you complaining about your "dry spells". I've had a dry spell of ... the entire application cycle!

You'll hear something this week, LET. I broke a 3 week dry spell myself this week.

:luck::luck::luck:

😀

Yup, I think Thursday is a GREAT day for interview invites! Pretty please? 😳

Thanks funkmonk (and berk) .. I am a lucky froggy. You're a pretty lucky monkey yourself, though 🙂

Hope everyone's having a good week.. it's Thursday... which means it's almost Friday!

and LET.. I hope you're getting psyched up! You'll have to keep us all updated on your across-the-country progress.

and Grad.. hang in there, you can make it another 12 days! And also, I didn't get your lucky seat at the Tulane tour, because someone was already in it.. but I did think of you when I went through the embryology museum 🙂 How about that "Two-headed monster?" Very bizarre that that would be the best scientific name they could come up with.

And Pianola... I really like your new avatar 🙂

Haha... for real. It was very evident that a lot of the specimens were VERY old. I guess back in the day "two headed monster" was fairly scientific
Funny thing, there was another girl in my interview group who also wants to do neonatology. It's a rare specialty for pre-meds to call. Of course, she hasn't been able to spend any time inthe NICU yet.. so she'll either hate it or fall in 😍 like I did.

Thanks. I also just got Penn State, lucky # 13!!!, so I am excited about that too. Yay my dry spell of 12 hours was broken! :soexcited:
But the bad thing is, I am going to miss too much school, so I had to Schedule Sinai for December 15th... Does anyone know how bad NY gets around this time? I should start emailing the other schools around NY, cuz I think it would be an awesome time and I would not mind spending the whole week in NYC. That would be awesome!:soexcited:
Congrats berk, and pianola, and LET, you are probably gonna get something amazing, so just keep thinking the happy thoughts. By the way berk and pianola, where were you guys invited to?

By the way, this is my new favorite smilie:soexcited:!

. Im right there with you tncekn! LOL. It will be our time shortly. Just keep the faith! This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!!!! Today is the day I get an invite, I am speaking this in faith!!!

BD!!!!

Did you get Howard completed and turned in?

Yes mam. I have been complete since 9/10. They just started inviting people this week so we shall see. Hopefully, In Jesus Name, I will hear something soon. How are you Grad?

Cuz you are totally in their c/o 2013.

Jesus told me so.

I heard that!!! That's what I'm talking about. Speak those things as though they are!!! Thanks for the confidence Grad! You guys are awesome. You guys are another reason why I wanna be c/o 2013!

Yep, and it would be a shame to waste the time of all those interviewers if I already have a seat 🙂

Its gonna happen Grad..............................Jesus told me!!! 😀

Haha. Top 5 would encompass all my schools, once you get rid of that Vandy reject.

That's totally asking too much of me. Honestly when I think about it, I suppose 2/5 isn't that bad for this early in the cycle.

I have a feeling that most schools are probably slowing down on interview invites since their schedules are probably starting to get booked up. Over the next few months the invites will probably trickle out rather than gush.

I hope not... I still need to hear back from a bajillion schools...

Almost had a heart attack a little bit ago, when I thought someone who applied RDP to Tulane had gotten accepted.... but it was an EDP app.

And the wait continues.
