Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When I was in NYC, me and a couple of friends (you know who you are 😉) saw Anthony Edwards (Dr. Green from ER) walking his dog on the upper east side. That was pretty cool - it's a sign we're going to be accepted to our dream schools in NYC, right?

I stopped watching Grey's after the season 2 finale. Any show in which they shut down an entire hospital to hold a prom should be against the law. I mean, do people actually believe this stuff?

😉

That encounter, by the way, caused me to blurt out "Dr. Green works at Sinai!" when my Sinai interviewer asked me why I wanted to go there the next day.

haha the lesbian side plot is def weird. watch it turn into a threesome with mark though, since he "helped" callie out

Don't you crush my dreams! When I'm chief of surgery one day, we will do this every year!

It just might be! No one believes me when I tell them though 🙁.

i got put in the High Priority category at Jefferson (i.e. waitlist). the letter told me to email the dean if i wanted to be considered at a later date if there are openings.

should this just be a short email saying basically yes or no? or do you think this is the time to write something a bit longer, persuasive, etc?

i'm unsure of how to go about this.
thanks!

Yeah, I totally support lesbian subplots in general (consider me an ally or whatever) but this particular lesbian subplot is just a true stinker. And yes, it had better not turn into a threesome or I'm gonna be really irritated (I could totally see it going there, too).

I've only seen one episode of House, but it appears much more promising. 👍

And ampersand, I'd just write short "yes" or "no". I'm sure that will take care of it.

I would keep it at one or two sentences, if it were me.

"Dear so-and-so,
I would like to be considered for a later date. Thank you for the opportunity."
(or something like that)

Agree. I don't think they want more paperwork. But they probably would like to know very simply if you're interested enough to make the effort to write them something brief...

LFW has a good template 👍.

😱WOW, you have only seen one episode? Do they not have TVs in Florida? I thought all the old retired people just watched their "stories" everyday!

Just kidding... but yah, for House, it actually showed character development, while Grey's is too much into trying to appease some groups or something...errr... I actually cannot find a reason why that was even put in...

I think that you need to send a more lengthy letter (A letter of update/interest). These are usually what people send when they are waitlisted and want to be reconsidered.

Aren't LOUs/LOIs send by snail mail usually? A hard copy?

Seems like they could send the two sentence acceptance, then follow up with a longer, printed out LOU/LOI.

Many schools accept (or even prefer) the LOU/I to be sent as an attachment to an email.

Aha. I yield to one with greater knowledge.

Never sent an LOU/LOI, so I was just sposin'....

I hate to break up the current conversion but I have to add that I'M ACCEPTED!! I just got my first acceptance so I have that heavy weight lifted off my shoulders and the need for celebration tonight!

Congrats Fluffy! Where at? UK?

I'm accepted at U of L right now, I haven't heard anything from from UK since I submitted my secondary. No invite, no word on anything from them.

Congrats FluffyBunny!! U of L is a great school 🙂

It's funny, I was commenting on exactly the opposite on another thread.. I got one of the first OOS invites at UK and was accepted on 10/15, but haven't heard a peep from UL since I submitted the secondary on July 1st. They're looking for different things, I suppose.

It is odd, though, since your location says you're in Lexington.

thanks for the input, guys.

i think i am going to send a shorter email to the dean today....and then, later send a more lengthy LOI-type thing. once i am more sure that i would go there over Maryland (where i am currently accepted)

I am actually off today, even though I have to work on saturday. But this is a great feeling. It gives me sometime to finish this UC Davis secondary that I have been slacking on. How is everybody today?

Davis is going to start sending interview invites soon. Get the app done, bruin!

I'd just like to interject that the "should i sell my kidney" thread was over FAR too soon. I mean that was just. too. funny.

On a side note: I didn't realize it was illegal to sell internal organs.

I know Berk. I am going to submit it in the next 10-15 min. But I am not very hopeful about getting an interview at Davis. But we shall see.

You won't know if you don't try. Just bust it out and keep the faith!

Cincy Invite for the November 21st!

Why is it that all schools that invite me require more essays/ short answers?

UTSW: Need to do Secondary
Vandy: Need to do Secondary
SUNY Buffalo: Essay during interview
SUNY Upstate: Write 2 more essays
U Cincinnati: the 8 Question mini-interview thing!

Dear chad5871:

I am writing to advise you of the status of your application to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In these very competitive times, it becomes increasingly difficult for us to choose the best among the outstanding people who submit applications to us. The Admissions Committee of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has decided not to admit you in this application year.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. My review of your application tells me how hard you have worked toward becoming a physician. I extend my best wishes for your future career.

Yours Truly,

Beth Piraino, MD
Professor of Medicine
Associate Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid

My birthtown has failed me. 🙁

that is the nicest rejection i have ever seen...

Hmmm my favorite is still B.U. It kept saying how much they regretted their decision and how there were so many applicants and how they knew it was THEIR loss not to have me as a member of the class. I was almost sorry for them at the end.

ha nice! I hated Mayo's. The subject of the email was: "NOTIFICATION OF NON-SELECTION"

Sorry, chad! But you will be a doctor regardless 😉

These rejection letters are interesting... at least it seems they are trying to be nice.

Occasionally I feel sorry for folks on the ADCOM, it has to be a tough job...
