Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haha I cannot wait to beat up the jerkface who casually lets it slip, "Oh yeah, I got a 40 on my MCAT with a 3.9 from Hahvahd" at orientation...

Hehe. 😉 Yeah...that's gonna be fun. I will just give them my biggest smile 😀 and sit on the other end of the classroom.

🙂eek🙂

Acceptances are a wonderful thing, are they not?

Our GPAs and MCATs matter very little any more.

i agree, love this!!! won't have to explain my GPA anymore

Just gotta chime in- I loved, loved, LOVED organic! It was a lot of memorization, but I just really liked how if you thought about any reaction long enough, it always makes perfect sense based on like 5 basic concepts.

INORGANIC chemistry will forever be the bane of my existence; nothing ever made any sense to me in that class, and I still always wind up looking like an idiot any time I have to recall something from there- thankfully, I probably never will again 😀

i also liked organic, it makes sense. but i don't understand, do we really need it in med school/become a good doc? why?

you could be like. where's havard. see i'm from texas, people don't know about harvard here. our schools are much better than ones not here. oh it's that ivy league, the one where you guys have lots of grade inflation  and the mcat's multiple choice. i'm glad you're good at guessing

Thank you! Inorganic... Bleh! :barf:
Agreed. Hated every second of inorganic. On the other hand, I loved orgo. Except for my orgo did not help me on the MCAT one bit. My prof said there are 3 orgo things that are not worth learning cause computers can figure them out for you, IR, nomenclature, and reagents. Go figure those are the things the MCAT tests.

Just be like "That's great...so what happened?" 😀

Congrats on Stanford, serikk!!!

re: organic. Organic was the REASON I didn't do a chem major (I was a minor instead).

So yeah, I <3ed Pchem and biochem but ochem....*sigh*

goooood day everybody!

IR was probably the worst topic to learn, but IMO, the MCAT went easier on IR than it could have. The most I saw was -OH and C=O peaks which are the easiest ones.

AMEN. Of all my grades in ochem 1 and 2, the test on IR and NMR was my lowest grade. I forget exactly how I did on the test (I'm 4 years removed from ochem).

I just booked my flight to Richmond! I am spending 5 days there, taking an overnight on Friday night January 30th, and Coming back at 11:30 Wednesday Feb. 4th! Woohoo! It is like a mini vacation... too bad that I have a midterm on the 5th.🙁

Just to chime in I LOVED organic chem. It was a lot of fun. We never had to learn IR or NMR, at least memorize them, and on my MCAT, I had two passages on synthesis, which my professor loved, so hey, nice Bio score for me😀

Also, why is it that everyone and their mom has taken PChem... am I the only non chem major here?

Serikk, congrats on Stanford!

I got lucky on MCAT, one of my passages was on the exact reaction we'd been tweaking and working with in lab for 2.5 weeks! It was almost effortless. 👍
Ha ha! That's awesome! I had a stand alone question that was straight out of one of the practice tests.

Thanks berk!!! Yay for sunny Cali!

Seriously? You did? Wow. I'm impressed. I thought P-chem was about a billion times harder than orgo.

Berk can probably chime in, but Stanford =/= Sunny Cal... It is Norcal, aka gloomy Cal...

Thanks funkmonk, and yeah, I think it's a little chem conference here, bunch of majors and minors.

Ha ha! That's awesome! I had a stand alone question that was straight out of one of the practice tests.

My first PS passage was about why HCl was a better than HF... Haha, I did about 5 of those passages during practice, but during the actual test, I blanked...🙁

Yeah, PChem wasn't so bad, at least at my school. The teacher made it a fun class.

Well, at my school it was just too easy to get a chem minor after taking orgo and I felt like it might be worth it to go for the minor.

Ha ha! That's awesome! I had a stand alone question that was straight out of one of the practice tests.

Yeah, I had at least 2 questions from previous AAMC tests. One of them I remembered word for word. I kept staring at it to make sure it was ACTUALLY the same and not some variation of the old question.

congrats serikk!!! good luck for your interview funky. mine's on jan 22. i wish it was the same day so we could meet!

Aww, I would ask you to change it, but apparently we are the lucky ones, in that we actually got the interviews to VCU😀

That's good. Ours was basically derive the hydrogen atom mathematically. Sucked. That's awesome yours was fun.

Yeah! Me too! I actually got distracted thinking about how unfair it was that I got an advantage because I purchased the AAMC tests. Took me a sec to snap out of it.

yeah, i agree. are there still no interview slots? i can't believe that might not have anymore interview invites.

So when will Stanford tell you that you got their full scholarship?

Thanks blues. And yeah, Stanford doesn't do full scholarships, not that I'd get it. I've been far more lucky than I deserve. I'm sure it's running out. Stanford does pay down your debt for research you do though. It's nice.

That is what it said on their website... It is scary how many good applicants we have in our year😱

Blues, Serikk, do you guys have facebook?

serikk, you are good! don't deny it, too good to refuse

i agree, i'm so happy i'm accepted already. i feel so lucky.

Blues, Serikk, do you guys have facebook?

yeah i have facebook, why?

I think me and Berk are the only ones actively choosing not to join the super-secret FB group.
Why does it have to be super secret? Reminds me a bit of the super secret forts I'd make with my friends when I was like 5.

haha why are you guys shunning?

No no it's the other way around. We didn't join so everyone else started shunning US.

No particular reason, I have a facebook account. I just choose not to use it.

I dunno, only people who read this thread consistently know it even exists. You hafta PM LET to get an invitation to join, it's all very hush-hush.

hehe, your post count is 666.

666, the mark of the beast!

Anyone ever seen Half-Baked? (Above is quote from the movie, not some random non-sequitur) 🙂

We are no longer shunning Berk, because she is too awesome to be shunned. But you, you actually have a facebook, but you choose not to join!😱
