Class of 2013!!!

another thing is everyone wants 'experience'. all my experience is in healthcare. so it's hard to get a job in any field other than healthcare. but then every job is healthcare needs some little class or certification exam or something. so it's hard to get a job, period.

Retail!👍

so I just finished watching all three eps Myu 😀

I get this all the time. I'm always carded for EVERYTHING. Even movies.
depends on my hair. When my hair is lighter I get carded. When my hair is dark (like now) I am mistaken for my brother's mom... he's 17 :meanie:

Retail!👍

Seconded. If you've never worked retail, it's a great experience for dealing with difficult people. I worked customer service at a grocery store for over 2 years and was a salesperson at Best Buy for like 6 months. It was some of the best learning experience I've ever gotten.

And they're always hiring!

I think customer service takes the cake here. I worked for this company once that sold electronic medical records and the software always broke, so I would have angry doctors calling and yelling at me.

Adequate preparation for residency?

I pray I never become one. I'm sure it'll happen OCCASIONALLY, but I'm certainly going to do my best to keep it minimal.

me too! sometimes i really want to know if any aspects of my personality will change in 10 years, or even after 5. medicine is pretty intense, and i've already seen it change people.

these openings for movie extras that are swarming job search sites look pretty fishy.

It really does. It seems as though peds people are generally some of the happiest doctors around... so we'll see 👍

You can make okay money for doing extra work - usually about $50 per day. But they are typically 8-hour days where you're just standing around for most of the time. It's not as glamorous as it seems.

on the contrary, it seems like all the EM people are always angry.

i'm determined to be a happy ER doc. 😛

I have noticed that as well - I work out of a peds clinic in the hospital and they are the nicest docs ever! In fact this morning I had a doc approach me and ask me what patients I was recruiting, and if there was any way she could help me. That was really thoughtful.

And it's been this way anywhere I've shadowed or visited. On my actual tour of the med school, one of the 4th years took me to peds to introduce me to everyone and talk about residency. It was amazing. You don't get that in every department. (or at every school probably).

I 😍 peds, UMMC, & Blair E Batson Children's Hospital 🙂🙂

apparently, my area is in need of movie extras, respiratory techs, and bartenders.

TOP sirloin!!!

I'm a pescetarian, so I eat "eats any combination of vegetables, fruit, nuts, beans and fish or invertebrate seafood" (according to Wikipedia, and that accurately describes my diet). I also choose to eat dairy and egg products. Every once in a while I'll accidentally get a bit of meat (like meat sauce on spaghetti or bacon bits on salad) and I'll still eat it. But I haven't had regular portions of meat or food with a lot of meat (like chicken salad) for almost 4 years.

You do not like vertebrate seafood, so I suppose dolphins, sea turtles, manatees, and whales are no-nos for you:laugh:

That is cool... I kind of want to do that since I eat a lot of meat, and I need to unclog my arteries, but I like meat too much... maybe if I have to go OOS for med school, and I will not have my mom's delicious home cooking, I will be forced to become a pescetarian...

If you do not want to answer, you do not have to, but is it for health reasons, or religious reasons, that you normally do not eat meat, or is it new age hippie environmentalism?

I wish I could give up meat. I have the worst diet known to man kind. I HATE vegetables with a passion. It's so bad I have to see a nutritionist to help me incorporate vitamins and nutrients into my diet 🙁

I used to be like that when I was little... then I guess my tastebuds started maturing, and now I really enjoy the things I hated as a child, like tomatoes, bell peppers, and fish... I still hate garlic though... and eggplants...
lol mt sinai gave me the illest cold shoulder. Not even an interview. Not even an acknowledgement of my existence.

That is because Cornell sent them an angry letter saying that if they tried to steal you away they would have dire consequences... Maybe Mt. Sinai was planning to give you an interview today?

HaHa. Yea I'm still waiting for my taste buds to change. eating lettuce tastes like chewing paper to me. I don't eat tomatoes or cucumbers or peas or BeAnS (my family is shocked by this). It sucks because when you want to get healthy or lose weight what do you turn to? But my nutritionist has been really good so far & she likes the challenge 😀

Damn you Cornell. Always out maneuvering me!
