Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Good Morning all! I am so much more enthusiastic about going to work now that my experiments are going well.

Although I'm pissed that my co-worker already infected the new batches of mice without telling me! 😡 I wanted to try too! Just because I'm leaving in a few months doesn't mean I can't still learn new things. 🙁

It is very chilly this morning! About 43 °F.

In about a half-hour, I am heading to the dentist to have my filling examined. My friend is using my mouth to become a board certified dentist. I do not really like it.

At least it's cheap?😳

Maybe they don't want you to get sick?🙂

Morning! It's great how we all wake up at the same time.
that doesn't say much for me, since it's 3 hours earlier by you haha!

Berk you are coming up on 15k!

To the best of my knowledge, it's free. But I never had a cavity before, and although the process was rather painless, I do not like the idea of having my tooth drilled and filled with amalgam.

I like my teeth the ways they is!
I've never had a cavity either... or braces. I'm a pretty low maintenance dentist gal

I've only had a couple cavities... but i did wear braces.
I never needed them and then right before college my dentist said some crazy mumbo jumbo about having one tooth kind of turning & I should get braces. I said hell-to-the-no! I wasn't spending all 4 years of college with braces if I could avoid it! Plus, whatever deformity he was talking about isn't even noticeable

That's a warm morning up here!

 Well, I want to fix my teeth (my teeth aren't bad at all, but there's a little gap between the front two and it pisses me off). The dentist said that the best way to fix it is braces...but I really, really don't want to get braces throughout med school. It's weird. And expensive. So, I could do the invisalign thing, but that's even more expensive. I'm torn :bang:

I didn't get to bed until late! I went out with a big group of first years and a group of visiting med students from Austria & Germany.

If you can get insurance to cover a fair share of it... I'd say go for it. It's one of those things that will be permanent and you'll most likely look back on it as a great decision. Then you can smile like this...😀

Yeah, my insurance will cover most of it. Crap...I may have to do it! I know future berken will love present berken for getting braces. I just need to convince current berken that it's worth it.

I had braces back in the day and hated them. I never went to check-ups and ended up having to wear them way longer than originally planned. Current day me is very happy that past me had them, and now wish I had been more proactive with them.

All rights meetings with the CV Surg and Nephrology divisions; talk to you guys in a few hours.

 You're right...I have a few months to decide, though. Thanks for the advice!

More like he didn't want me screwing up so the mice don't get sick.

I had braces for about a year and a half... and then barely wore my retainer. And I'm terrible about going to the dentist! I need to find a dental school nearby and see if I can get a cheap check up. I went just over a year ago and had a cavity filled and I actually kept up with flossing daily for like, six months after.

Braces for 2 years! High school was the best time of my life!!!

...not. It sucked. And I was bad with the retainer too - I even took it out during my sleep and would have no recollection as to why my retainer was on my bedside table instead of me wearing it. But my teeth are still pretty 🙂

I'd take the plunge berken - you will be glad you did it later (depending on how noticeable it is: if your top teeth are straight and the bottom ones not so much, its not a big deal). Why not do the invisalign? I know someone who did it, worked out really well except he was a dumb*** who just got lazy and said screw it 2/3 of the way through...I guess that isn't usually covered by insurance though...

Even "regular" braces can be pretty clear these days - check into those if your insurance doesn't cover invisalign.
(Example : http://www.iceclearbraces.com/)

I wear my retainer about 1x a week now. It's funny though because my teeth have shifted some so it doesn't fit the best. The front is still straight, but the back has moved a lot.

There was tooo long that I didn't wear it at all. They'd still be perfect. Sigh.

:scared::scared:

Happy Tuesday! I think I should get a day off now. :meanie:

Oops, haha, I meant exercise not exorcise... I know of a few people who claim to be exorcists...

But yeah, I was really tired so I had to come back early😳

Time for research🙁 I actually would prefer time for bed, but what are you gonna do🙁

dont be scurred piano!
its absolutely sex-a-riffic to exercise! When the warm weather front hit us (cali kids) last friday, I've basically been on my bicycle 3hrs every day and i LOOVES it!

Hehe, it wasn't the "exercise" that scared me...read funky's post a little more carefully 😉.

ooouh awesome, youll be a TOP gunner!
Penn State mandates we complete research as part of our curriculum...so it looks like I'll be joining you =D
One of the reasons I'm not likely to go to Penn State if they accept me.

I'm down to do some research, but if I don't like it, I don't want to be required to complete a project.

After having not posted on this thread since the second week of September, I thought I'd poke my head in and say Hi.

Hi!

Hi Raryn, it is nice to see you here in this thread🙂

well, I'm not sure you need that much gunning for peds, neonataology is a fellowship subspeciality...

fair enough.
i have very little research under my belt--so i think anything i do will ultimately be good for me. Besides, I'll be in charge of picking what I want to do, so it can't be that bad~~and if it is, well that's kinda my fault 😳

I'd like a research requirement, because it means the administration has to give you resources and support!
