That's what I'm wondering... Like, since we can't have coats or long sleeves, can they just set aside a scrub color and let all doctors wear it (and only doctors)?

I've heard from many doctors that once you're an attending you can wear whatever the hell you want to.

Haha. I think of navy blue as being the most doctorish... but if we can vote, let's go for it!

A solid blue or green color would be best IMO.

Most pediatricians forgo the white coat anyway since the coat can scare the kids.

There's no legal enforcement, but if you are dealing with sick patients, why would you want to increase the chance of spreading infections?

I guess they are okay... in a hospital setting (and I have seen it done that way). My main issue with non-traditional birth is the safety component for mom and baby.

What! I'm going to be mistaken for a nurse until I'm like 50! I look too damn young. People keep thinking I'm in high school. 😡 Ima be a surgeon so it doesn't matter. 😛

Not that I'm particularly attached to white coats. I actually do find them gross. We wear them in my lab and I think I change mine the most often (once a week) and I feel like that's not really good enough. It'd be less gross if they actually made coats that fit me so the wrist cuffs weren't always hanging around the bases of my hands.


Also, tetanus shots hurt like crazy! 🙁 If I'd known, I would've got my shot in my right shoulder, because I sleep on my left shoulder. Last night was not fun. I hope this goes away soon.

I understand the reasoning, but it's always sad to see a long standing tradition fall by the wayside. Though it is just a recommendation, perhaps all the hospitals will bandit; Reynolds style.

Yeah, I would guess that all med schools will keep the White Coat Ceremony. And they will be used for lab; only when we actually become doctors will we not get to wear them.

The only solution is to wear a polo. I'm very much in favor of that.
