CLASS OF 2014...how ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got our schedule and elective choices for next semester. I'm kinda excited - I'll be done with surgery, so I should have 2-3 free afternoons most weeks. 2 days of clinics every week which will be boringggg, and (IF I get in to the class) food animal surgery is only 2 days a week for 3 weeks and thats it. Once that ends, I'll have "free" time 🙂

And only 13 exams in required classes- vs the 23 we had this semester..
And then there's the whole "last semester in a classroom" thing. Cant waitttt to be doneee

23????

Whoa....I have 2....total...for this year. :scared:

But amen to being done with classes. March cannot come soon enough.

We've got 4 final exams, one of which I've already taken (freaking surgery is going to cause me to repeat the 3rd year I'll bet...).

All my surgery critters have survived, and being able to actually have a 'patient' of sorts, and it to come out good, is awesome. Also we're down from 4 hour spays to 1 hour! Getting better all the time! 😀

Long time no see, stranger.

Yah, I feel bad too. Had a hectic summer and wasn't able to do ANY of the personal statement reviews I signed up for. 🙁 Then I got delayed coming home and spent 2 unplanned extra weeks in Spain (which isn't a bad place to get stranded) and then about 4 days after finally getting home get dumped into 3rd year and we just hit the ground running at that point. I always used to think "well surely they can take like, a minute out of their day to come back and post on SDN" for the other vet students. Nope, everything else just kind of crowds that thought right on out of your head.

I never have to listen to another lecture EVER AGAIN

ahhhhhhh

So today in surgery was very interesting. I was supposed to run anesthesia for one spay and one neuter. First patient was already spayed, second patient tested parvo positive and was euthanized prior to surgery, third patient ended up being an emergency en bloc c-section. It was a little stressful getting thrown into the emergency sx but we got it done and our patient lived so it ended well. Then I get home to discover that my solo anesthesia day had been rescheduled due to a Christmas party. So now I get to come in January to do my solo anesthesia after a month of being out of the OR and while being 7 months pregnant. Great. There is a reason I requested all of my surgeries this semester!

I'm so happy that you decided to plug on, bunnity. 🙂

congratulations and adding to the jealousy! We start clinics in mid-June.

Thank you. I kind of can't believe that I did it.

Lissa - that sounds super stressful. We've had some surprises with our surgeries this semester too (all ended well).

Yay, Bunnity! Feels good, doesn't it?

Thank you! Our whole class started clapping at the end of our last lecture and we had wine/cake waiting in the back row. Most people will have some spring classes but they are all electives (and a few are going straight to clinics like me) so we are truly over the hump now.

ahhhhhhh

ME TOO AND IT FEELS SO GOOD! 🙂

we also applauded after our last lecture (and it even ended 20 minutes early!)👍👍👍

5 finals in 5 days next week, and then our class is on to clinics starting jan 2!!! =)

Congrats!!! Isn't it one of the best feelings ever?! 😀

Ours ended 5 minutes late in true Penn style haha.

Congratulations to you and your class!!

Eh... that is just a V14 problem. Our classes almost always end on time or early (or the Dr. Sunyer doesn't show up). We don't ask ANY questions (except occasionally Bruce:laugh:) so it goes by quickly!

Nah... the madness will start next semester. Somehow they all miss the memo on when lectures end.

Aw how exciting!!

Can't wait for that feeling next term. The 4th years always dress up like animals on the last day of lectures.

Should probs start planning my costume now 🙂

hahahaha, this sounds awesome.

I can't wait until the end of this week...each class has a HUGE party when they reach clinics (called the 5/8th's party because it's after 5th semester), we all dress up and look fancy and drink and party...so excited!

good luck to everyone else on their finals and last semester of classes!!!

Not looking forward to this semester's finals. Ag animal med, small animal med, equine med, clin pharm, and small animal surgery...and the latter four are cumulative. Bahhhh third year. 😱 At least it's the second to last round of finals EVER! 😀

I did my first spay and neuter as primary surgeon today. Other than my intradermal closure being pretty crappy (but not crappy enough to redo), it went well. I did the spay in 1hr 17min so I feel like that is a good starting point. I think the neuter was 14 min IIRC. I'm moving around like a little old lady and my husband was making fun of how I was walking when I got home. And I get to do it all again tomorrow. There's no telling how I will be walking after 3 more days of surgery this week.

You go girl! 🙂

Only one more final for us--Behavior :barf:

I have no motivation at all to study. But I am pretty excited about the electives I have for next semester--Spay/Neuter, Soft Tissue Surgery, and Large Animal Ultrasound. 🙂

How can you not like behavior? 😱

We have therio and ophtho finals left. Some people still have finals left in their electives. I still have 3 more days of surgery. I think I picked good electives next semester: multisystemic diseases, advanced ophtho, and intro to integrative med.

At this point I could have a class on beautiful women and bunny rabbits and still not want to study.

👍

It's not so much that it's behavior that makes it miserable...it's that it's the last final after 6 exams... My brain has become mush at this point. 🙁

I picked small ruminant (specifically to hear Dr. T stories, basically), zoonotic, and neuro. I hope these were good choices.

Out of those, I have only taken zoonotic. It was a good class and a good review. Go over old tests except last year he had to switch things around since we didn't take BacT until the spring. He will probably remind you of that though. I imagine neuro will be helpful for 3rd year.

Small rum = naptime. Easy A. don't bother trying to take notes, just find old exams.

Zoonotic = no idea.

Neuro= pay attention. if you put effort in it will help in the long run. (Hopefully, anyway. I've heard a few rumors that Dr. L is done teaching 3rd year neuro after this year) Not exactly an easy A, but the A isn't impossible. Plan on spending a lottt of time on the final. Hours.

My thoughts exactly. So ready to be done with today's test so I can collapse for a month!

haha, yeah... I remember way back when I used to think, "oh man, it's so boring because all we're learning about is crap that's totally clinically irrelevant. I would be so pumped once we got to the kooo stuffs!"

I was pumped to learn it. Not so much to study it and be tested on it. 😛

Just took the hardest exam ever in my entire life today. 😱 Not even exaggerating. Small Animal Medicine. I hope to the lord baby jesus that I passed... :scared:

Tomorrow is Ag Animal Med and Friday is SA Surgery and then DONE! I can't WAIIIIT for break.

As for next semester electives, I'm taking SA Soft Tissue Surgery, Special Species, Practice Management, and SA Clinical Problem Solving. I've heard good things about all of them!

Can't believe I made it... on to clinics!!!

But first, 2 weeks of doing nothing 😀

First day of my first externship at a spay/neuter clinic... loved it. 😀

Classes start Monday

I have done absolutely nothing productive over the past three weeks, not even the accreditation training crap that I wanted to get done, and I am still not ready for this semester to start. I think my motivation is still sleeping.

Is it April yet?

I have gotten a lot of stuff done but none of it is school related. I haven't even started that online stuff and I have to have it done by February. Oops. I don't even know when all my classes are because they moved one of my electives and I haven't bothered to look it up.

Tomorrow is what is probably the most difficult hurdle (for me anyway!) that I have to clear left before clinics - our evaluated simulated difficult client interaction lab. The course leader and I don't tend to see eye to eye on a lot, and the whole thing is an exercise in making him happy, so I struggle a lot with these, not to mention with the fact that the scenarios are so contrived and in front of classmates and videotaped...let's just say I will be really relieved if I pass it.

Good luck Nyanko!

Can't decide if I'm sad or excited that class starts back today. Last semester before clinics!

We just got our clinics schedule for 4th year. **** just got real :soexcited::scared:

As of right now, I'm pretty freaking excited. My schedule is PERFECT. Seriously. As long as I can make it to Xmas, it's all fun and games from there (Shelter, both EQ, FA, off campus, vacation!).

And during the hot summer months, I've got mostly SA stuff so I can hang out in the AC 👍

I'm a little sad that there are so many people I'm probably never going to see though.
