I mentioned alcohol....
they generally want you to avoid that topic.

they generally want you to avoid that topic.
1. who is "they?" or, i guess, who are "they?"
2. i think if "they" want you to avoid it, it's probably in the context of you divulging your secret alcohol addiction or telling stories about how effed up you got last weekend. not making harmless jokes. RELAX.
chill out cupcake
no worries guys...you and the cookies I ate a little earlier convinced me that there could be a lot worse things than acknowledging that 21 year olds drink.I don't think "mentioning it in passing in a humorous way"="making it a topic of conversation."
Seriously, I don't think there's any topic you absolutely can't talk about under any circumstances if you approach it the right way, and you really didn't talk about it.
P.S. were on page 1028 you guys....we are FAST!
it is possible that i am exaggerating. but basically here's what went down:
beginning of interview: i express my strong desire to work with patients like myself with chronic illnesses.
interviewer: interprets this to mean i have a god complex and am looking for hero worship (EDIT: yes, he did ask me if i had a god complex)
fast forward to end: i ask interviewer what he thinks is best about duke
interviewer: tells me that people who want to work with patients should go to their state schools and that duke trains "leaders"
really it was wonderful 🙄
Oh no. That really blows! No chance that he was testing your reaction (although that would be very unlike Duke to be honest)
Ok well here is the story of my epic failure(as written to the ever so wise ksmi):
Ok so I should preface this by saying that I like to over analyze....a lot, and then do it some more-so it might be just an instance of that, but:
so a big no-no for interviews is mentioning alcohol, for some reason that just completely left my head this morning in group interview when the interviewer asked me about my brother, specifically how old he is.
I said: He is a year and 4 months younger than me, in fact his 21st birthday is this Friday (all three smiled widely and chuckled)
I, being the idiot that I am forgot that these are interviewers I am talking to and thought they were probably chuckling at the same thing I would chuckle at....the debauchery that usually takes place on such a birthday....so I clarified "but he does not like to drink, so no wisdom need be imparted in this case" They all laughed raucously, which I think is the reason it didn't register with me that I just did a no-no.
The rest of the interview went well.
During the tour, the subject of my answer came up (our tourguide was one of the interviewers) and she was like "I thought it was hilarious cause you don't usually hear answers like that"
I thought to my-self: you are effed.
But yea. I guess I wont find out for sure until I either get accepted or rejected but that was sooooooooooo dumb. You don't have to say that it isn't that bad, I think I just needed to tell someone because I didn't have the heart to tell it to my mama. ( she is really rooting for emory :\)
Awww!! I just got my first PS to read for the 2015ers. Yay! This is cute! 🙂
haha yea and I am generally useless after interviews for anything other than eating.Yeah, this thing has blown up recently since we hit pg1000 combined with the massive procrastination that is finals week.

and freaking out I guess.
Now that I think of it...I friggin told Tulane that I am a cat thief and they accepted me. I hate it when I get worked up like that for nothing.
ouchies, i just tore my earring out of my ear. it is bleeding. should i let the hole close up or should i try to stick the earring back in?
THAT is going to require some explanationhaha yea and I am generally useless after interviews for anything other than eating.

I'm gonna leave this to the people with experience with stuff like that but OUCH!ouchies, i just tore my earring out of my ear. it is bleeding. should i let the hole close up or should i try to stick the earring back in?
weren't you were when I told this story.....like 200 pages back?THAT is going to require some explanation![]()

yikes. glad i wasn't here for that!I'm pretty sure I remember being torn to pieces by the 2013ers. Even in jest some of the stuff they said was uncalled for. I hope that none of us will stoop to that level. There's nothing wrong with poking fun a bit, but what they did was mean.

You know I actually had my cartilage of my ear pierced during freshman year when I was in my rebellion stage from Catholic high school. 😎
Spurs. You were up 11 last I checked, and now you're down 10?
when i was 6-i stole a catI probably was and my memory is just terrible. 😛
when i was 6-i stole a cat

1.) OH DEAR LOOOOOORD!
2.) I can see your point...the problem is I can also see the point where it wouldn't be ok....welcome into my head 😛....its ok cause cookies make it better
3.) why female applicants in particular?

well that is jerky of them. I may be short and smiley but it takes skill to make your 6 foot tall brother fear you for 20 years...and I haz it!i would guess some sort of gender discrimination, like what i told you earlier about how they like to see if girls can handle it or something. i've heard of it happening a few times and unless it's at wake, it always happens to a female applicant
i read somewhere that recidivism is high with cat thieves
what up kids.
that was a terrible basketball game i went to

No I am going legit for my next cat----and may I say that I am excited beyond all reasonable proportion! I want a little kitten that goes *rawr* 😀

Spurs!!! You were taking away exclamation points from the 2014 thread?! When did you do that?

EDIT (so that I don't have like a million posts):
I had a minor breakdown about my interview....because I am ridiculous
and it has been ascertained that spurs has been stealing the exclamation points from our thread's title.
Go to the doc. I had a sinus infection and they gave me antibiotics. Still took like a week to go away completely, but I guess the antibiotics helped a little. My sinuses are massively clogged. My ears feel like they are going to explode.
Ugh. 🙁I'm having an issue. So my two roommates who are some of my closest friends have decided that they are gonna smoke weed with our other friend after finals are over. I told them that I would not be partaking in this, and since then they've been all like weird towards me. Like half thinking that I'm judging them, which I'm not, and half leaving me out since I don't ever want to do things with them. It's kinda upsetting.
Also, this MNF game actually got interesting.

Well that sucks. Do you ever want to do stuff with them? I'd just be like-I am joining you on such and such adventure. I think at this point trying to explain in words that you don't give an eff about their personal choices about weed is going to fall on deaf ears. Thats why I think actually actively joining them in a non-weed facilitated (but still fun) activity is the best way to show that you are up for fun just not that kind.I'm having an issue. Wow that is pretty interesting, I got nothing but niceness along my entire trail...even a hint of how to get back at an interviewer that is unnecessarily pushy towards me lolYea, i remember my usf interview, i had two of the nicest people ever, and everybody else say their interviews are great. However, there were only two girls there that day, and both got grilled in their interviews. In one, the interviewer started it off with "So I see you volunteered at Haiti, I don't think it's a very meaningful experience..."
I did something kinda stupid at my OSU interview too. At the end of my interview with the student, he asked me if I wanted to ask him any questions. I was browsing through the match list earlier so I figured I'd ask him a quick question about that(it was something like "what does preliminary mean?") Turns out he didn't quite know it either, so he was like "well, this question doesn't really pertain to OSU, but if you don't feel like googling it, i'll google it for you and send it to you."
Is it just me or have there been a lot of self-pity or just weird/pointless threads started on Pre-allo lately?
Like yours truly.Yeah. It's that time of the semester when people are realizing they're not gonna make that 4.0, and some of them really need it.
Welcome to my life. That's what I deal with every day.
Like yours truly.
Thank got my tutoring sessions got canceled tomorrow...extra 2 hours of studying!

Seriously. I hope it's a one-time deal with your roommates, cuz that can get really awkward really fast. Even if you're not actively judging them, they take it as such--because what they really want is to see as many other people doing it with them to reassure them that it's really OK.
At least that's been my experience. Sorry, I'm probably reading way too much of my own story into your situation.
I did very badly on the last exam. and not like tatastrophy/sdn badly but like a regular non crazy person would freak the eff out. it really came down to me just not having the time to teach myself all the things i missed. You seem to be studying pretty hard for someone already into med skewl.

🙁That sucks. I have some people who have been weird with me since I quit teh drugs. Some people are just goofy with that stuff.Welcome to my life. That's what I deal with every day.
I've noticed that as well.Is it just me or have there been a lot of self-pity or just weird/pointless threads started on Pre-allo lately?
