Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i say toke with them. if that's not an option, i don't think it's a big deal. i mean, you can hang out with ppl who don't drink, right? do they smoke often? if they don't, then their "weirdness" is probably just them being paranoid noobs right now

Neither of them ever have before.

Well that sucks. Do you ever want to do stuff with them? I'd just be like-I am joining you on such and such adventure. I think at this point trying to explain in words that you don't give an eff about their personal choices about weed is going to fall on deaf ears. Thats why I think actually actively joining them in a non-weed facilitated (but still fun) activity is the best way to show that you are up for fun just not that kind.
Hope that makes sense.

Yeah I think this is the problem. It's not that I don't want to hang out with them. It's that we can't. Between Roommate 1's semester long class project (she;s an advertising major and they have to make their own agency and actually like do a pitch for a real company and stuff) and Roommate 2's severe bf problems and my interviews, colorguard, and catching up with class, we just don't have time to hang out. And I'm not cool with this being like our only way to hang out after finals are over. I guess I should come up with something for us to do besides that.

 I had to share this with you fine folks. I am in the library, the quiet section of the library no less, and a guy walks by and farts, VERY loudly. The other 5 or so people at my table just looked at each other and then looked at the guy walking away.

Whew, I just read a whole book in one sitting. Well, it wasn't a very long book. More like a treatise...100 pages tops.

I do this in crowded places where I don't know anyone sometimes. The reactions are priceless

Yea, i remember my usf interview, i had two of the nicest people ever, and everybody else say their interviews are great. However, there were only two girls there that day, and both got grilled in their interviews. In one, the interviewer started it off with "So I see you volunteered at Haiti, I don't think it's a very meaningful experience..."

I did something kinda stupid at my OSU interview too. At the end of my interview with the student, he asked me if I wanted to ask him any questions. I was browsing through the match list earlier so I figured I'd ask him a quick question about that(it was something like "what does preliminary mean?") Turns out he didn't quite know it either, so he was like "well, this question doesn't really pertain to OSU, but if you don't feel like googling it, i'll google it for you and send it to you."

Did you figure it out? I actually know what that is, if you care.

i know i'm surprised! it seemed like it was gonna be a blowout for a while. i like the packers, but am rooting for the ravens in order to give my giants a better chance of making the playoffs.

The penalties are nuts, though.

Sounds like a good solution.

I would like to know, FWIW.
A prelim year is a one year internship either in surgery or medicine. It is basically a whole year of either surgery of IM.

The other type of one year internship is a transition year, which is basically an internship where you rotate through different services. It's kind of like med school clerkships (except with more responsibility) where you switch around what you do and also get elective time.

I would like to know, FWIW.

As far as I understand it, there are three types of residency programs.
1. Categorical: This is a typical residency everybody thinks of (3-5 years of post graduate training). Examples: gen surg, ob/gyn, peds, medicine, etc.
2. Advanced: Residency positions that start during your second year post-med school. Examples: derm, anesthesiology, radiology, etc.
3. Preliminary: 1 year programs that you do before an advanced residency. There are three types of these:
a) preliminary medicine: 1 year intro to internal medicine
b) preliminary surgery: 1 year intro to surgery (It seems like most people don't want these.)
c) transitional year: Exposure to a bunch of different specialties. People want these because they are easy (I think). They only count as your 1st year if you're doing an advanced residency later though, so you can't switch to a categorical residency later. (You can if you do a prelim internship. Again, I think.)

Yup, Transition years are really competative since you can take cushy electives, and you don't have to do long tracts of IM or surgery (meaning less call). So basically you have all the rads, rad-onc,ect step I superstars going for these.

Correct.

Really??

So no one else thought my story was funny? I could barely keep myself from bursting out in laughter in the library.

Studying is boring. But if I'm not really tired yet, I should probably do it.

Once this test is done tomorrow, though, my next almost doesn't matter - so my semester will be essentially done. 😀

Correct.

Cool.

WOOO I just finished my paper that I said I'd do on Saturday! 🙂

I don't think this one is nearly as crappy as the last one, and I did pretty well on that, so I think I'm set!

Andddd I'm the last one standing...again. Does this get me into the cool kids' club?

Still here, too.

One cool thing I just realized is that even though I haven't been accepted to some of my dream schools, I'm really grateful knowing that I don't have to bust my ass on finals with an unsure mind on what will happen. That I am truly grateful and thankful for.

👍

Except I give 100% on all exams, no matter what has happened or what will happen. I can't help it. It's annoying sometimes.

That's good in a way. I can't tell you the last time I gave 100% on an exam, if I've ever done it. I try to do well in everything for personal reasons, but I'm a major procrastinator and other stuff. Med school will change that for sure. 🙄

So I occasionally check out the Allopathic forum. I have to say...BORING. No crazy-ass threads or polls like there are here. I hope that's not a reflection of what med school is like because even though I don't like to be annoyed, I do like to be entertained.

The allo-forum is reallllly boring. Partially because the allo mods will move/lock anything that's not a super-serious med school topic.

There are fun parts of med school though. Largely on the weekends and after tests, but I think most med students know how to have a good time.

Hmm.

lol that's gross...

we kind of had the opposite problem last week - at our formal on the dance floor my date and i had two instances of dancing in fart zones. but no one could tell who the perp was because there were so many people and it was so loud.

kids, it is not cool to fart and dance like it wasn't you

NYU? Good luck!

I'm so glad I'm done with interviews. Every day reduces the change that I could actually motivate myself to interview at another school.

Awesome brooklyn. Is that an MD/PhD or just MD?

good luck pedie!

got my official acceptance email from miami this morning w🙂🙂

Sweet. You're gonna be the Will Smith of the 10's.

So Baton Rouge has the worst drainage system in the history of the country. 😡 A few hours of heavy rain and it's flooding all over the damn place. My car almost floated away 3 times on the way to school and back. :scared: That's the third or fourth time it's happened while I've been here.
