Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey whos got sullivan's phone number at georgetown? she said we could call her after 7 weeks right?

i just called whatever numbers on the admissions website. i dont think i talked to sullivan, but the lady i talked to was helpful and told me when to expect the email.

Need your guys' advice! So I decided to withdraw from an acceptance today after I put down a deposit. However, it's been a month and a half and they haven't done anything with my check (very annoying). Is it fair/ethical to stop pay on the check after withdrawing?

yea i thought about it. it shouldnt count because its on foreign land but i dont know if they will take the explanation

It shouldn't, but I'm betting it would. Med school "professionalism committees" or whatever each school calls them unfortunatly write their own rules as they go.

this is really bugging me. i need to know the answer.

tell them first

oh that! that ridiculously long list was mine haha, i'll post it again when i get home from work if you'd like luun🙂

finally. i've been looking for so long. PM me when its up...matter of fact, just PM it to me so i never lose it. lol

ok, sounds good.

thanks!

Also, Jolt, if you're feeling ballsy, I would just create another email and ask them point-blank. Tell them you are an accepted student and then ask your question. They'll let you know. If they answer that it's ok, then hold onto that email as proof in case they conveniently "forget".

i'll have to add some of those to my list thanks! here's my list-i'm a dork too🙂:

·Happiness of students
·What’s the personality of the school like
·Dress up to class?
·Match list-What percent get their first choice? Into a prestigious one?
·Clinical Preperation
·Cost
·Step 1 scores
·Type of lectures-PBL? Lectures?
·Is class attendance required?
·Class Schedule-all day? Only 8-12? Etc
·What day of the week are tests? How often are they?
·How’s the Hospital
·Required research project?
·How are the facilities/are they technologically advanced?
·Location-how’s the city/surrounding area
·International opportunities
·Grading system
·Prestige in the medical world
·Extracurriculars/social life of students
·What’s 3rd year like and how’s it structured? How is the grading done with rotations?
·How much choice do you have over rotations in 3rd year? 4th?
·What specialties do most students end up in?
·How are medical students prevented from scut?
·How receptive is the administration at fixing problems?
·How good is the school at focusing on basics and not getting caught up in details of specialties you’re completely uninterested in?
·Is there early patient contact? If so, what does it consist of?
·Class size
·Sports teams?

this one?

Oh that's tricky. I think you would definitely need to notify/ask the school.

haha will do. sorry you wasted time looking for it, i wish i'd realized what you were talking about earlier!

heyo!!! i've missed ca. 25 pages. y'all are on a roll.

back from interview last night, supposedly leaving for one tomorrow if i don't get snowed in

for government jobs, you have to list the countries you have been to within the last 10 years. idk about that for med school

Yeah, I just withdrew so i'll see if they say anything in their email. If they say that it is non-refundable and blah blah, then I will of course not stop pay, but might ask them to cash the damn thing because it's messing up my checking account, lol. If they don't mention it, then I'll cancel the check and move on with my life.

Oh, nicely done Rosalind Franklin.

"Thank you for letting me know about your withdraw. We have not cashed
your $100 check yet, so if it is alright with you, we will shred it. I
wish you all the best in your future endeavors!"

Earned major class points with me. Touché!

hmmm. that real ballsy. dunno if i can do that. where is Lizzy? does she check this thread? she should...

Kind of a weird in-between situation.

It's basically between four schools. I'm in at Loyola. Out of the schools I'm in at, I'd definitely go to Loyola. Loved it. I'm waitlisted (along with the rest of the world) at UPitt. That's where I'd go out of the all the places I had interviews. I will be hearing back from Northwestern + UChicago within the next month or so in terms of an interview invite, and I would go to either of those (unless, if I get an interview, it looks terrible upon visiting) if I managed to claw my way in. So...

1. NWU/UChicago (longest shot)
2. UPitt (sent a strong letter of interest :xf:)
3. Loyola (but I definitely love Loyola)

Soo, yeah. l think I have the best chance at UChicago because I've sent a bunch of update materials consistently, talked to their admissions staff semi-regularly, and had a special LOR sent from a Pritzker alumnus who was my professor. So really really hoping for some good news come early January.

How kind of them!!

firefox >> chrome

Now that I have the choice, I may give chrome a chance to prove itself though.

firefox is kind of laggy for me, but i think microsoft intentionally did this with windows 7 😏

Oh my gosh. I don't have too many pet peeves, but this is definitely one of them. A girl just sat down next to me at my table in the library and is eating nuts. Crunchy nuts. Ahhhh, so distracting.

Nonono, the worst is when they're eating heavy-smelling foods, like Chipotle. And it's not just one person eating Chipotle. It's a whole group of friends studying together eating chipotle, and you're the one who hasn't eaten for 6 hours.

once when i was taking a cell bio exam (grad school, so all the answers are essay) we'd been working on it for hours, and the guy proctoring the exam goes and heats up his lunch and starts eating it at the front of the class. i wanted to kill him. it was hard enough taking the damn test, now i am hungry and he's eating and the whole room smells like food.

on another note. what happens with schools you sent a primary, but not a secondary to? do i have to withdraw, will they reject me, or will it just be like it never happened . . . ?

hope everyone is doing well. I am in love with Rush post-interview, and can't wait to hear from them. At this point, if they accepted me I would definitely go there. 😀

Who wants to learn Fubini's Theorem for me? I'll give you a cookie.

Anything for a cookie 🙂

Where do I start?

question...

if i go to amsterdam in the summer, smoke marijuana, come back to the states, and take a drug test and fail, does that still count against me?

i really want to make this amsterdam trip, but i heard some schools give drug tests.
Technically I'm sure it's legal but I'd just ask the school.
So you're gonna have a grilled cheese sandwich? Yum!
Fixed.

Truth. Stop right there.

Another reason to not "upgrade" yet.

I'm sickkkkk. No classes for me today.

I've been having this on/off runny/stuff nose for a week or two. I just have to hold up until the end of this week and then I can sleep in bed all day...nvm I kind of already do that on the weekends.

My school offered H1N1 shots. Did anyone get this?

not I

whats grass monkey? I use adblock + noscript
Greasemonkey basically lets you change the apperance of any webpage. You get the extension, then you go to userscripts.org and download scripts that others have written to, for instance, change igoogle to have no sidebar. You could use it like adblock I'm sure, but it's not as automated. You can also modify others' scripts or write your own. It just makes firefox really customizable.
Did you guys see this in the news yesterday?

Virgin Galactic tested a commuter spacecraft that would fly to anywhere in the world in 2 hours.

Unbelievable.

That thing looks BA. I wonder who will be the first in orbit riding that thing.

email them!

lol . . . who, the schools I am incomplete at, or Rush??

I sent thank you notes to my interviewers, and also to the woman who ran our interview day, telling them how great I thought it was and how much I loved it. Would email on top of that be too much?

In particular, my first interviewer sort of told me that he had been the one to notice my application (i dont know exactly how they pick interviewees or how many people have to agree on it, but he was somehow involved.) in any case, it was because he thought we were similar and he could relate to me. so maybe an email to him might be nice . . . right? or too much? 😕

My school is offering it tomorrow, but I don't think I'm getting it since I'm pretty sick.
