Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I dont have a site but i got a good book on it that I was given by one of the schools i interviewed at. Basically unless you are a URM, or something like that. There isnt a lot ot apply for tahts specific to med school (at least in that book or what i found). A lot are like if you are "the 3rd cousin twice removed of parents who originated in cambodia but moved to the US before 1985 and you have a sister of a mexican immigrant who also happens to be married to someone from Laos." THEN you can have money .

seriously though if you wanted some things from the book i can just scan or it just give you the website or other thigns on aim.
Aw, I want to see too

ran the full 13.1 miles today
feel like a running-beast!

wow go taty!! i will hopefully be doing that in a little over 2 months!

go usa in hockey and go hokies in basketball!🙂

lolll i should probably not count on it then! when it comes to med school you gotta be in it already but when it comes to research you gotta do it in the future.. wth cant it just be reversed? one of my friends got a 10k scholarship for a research she did before med school but im having no luck with that!!

I did interview with UCSF and really really really really wanna get accepted there so I can stay in cali with you! wish me luck :xf::luck:

gah basketball is so stressful to watch!

Awesome job, taty 🙂

I need to start running.. I just don't know how to... get started if that makes sense.
I started at 4.2 miles per hour...thats like a brisk walk.
Run 6.5 to 7 miles per hour now and it feels easier than 4.2 lol

Tats you did 13 on a treadmill!?!

:barf:

But more power to you... I could never do it!!!

'Twas Jackson. That sounds really difficult.

My no soft drinks are going well.
👍 Good job!

I had one day where I had a pudding, but other than that I've been good on my no sweets (though I have had sugar free dessert-y things... Does that count?)

And still no alcohol.

Woo.

Jackson - how goes the no HFCS?

Do you use the treadmill?

I feel so awkward that beginning moment on the treadmill. I just feel really awkward.
lol in words of Nike....just do it.

It was nice enough outside (for once) to run but I don't have a route planned and I don't want to end up in ghetto-land in tight biker shorts and really really tired.
Yes and I am paranoid.

who was the one giving up high fructose corn syrup? I wonder how that's going...

me! going pretty well so far. it's a good thing i only drink water cuz i think it would be super hard if i was a soda drinker to start with too. sooo many things have it in it that you wouldnt think of though-english muffins, jelly, dressing, etc etc. it's crazy how much corn we eat on a daily basis!

and i agree with taty about the running-just start really slow and small and build up. i couldn't even do 1 mile when i started and now it's a lot easier. wogging is good too-maybe do half mile walking-quarter mile running-half mile running, etc then slowly decrease the walking and increase the running til you can eliminate some of the walking breaks (i'm still working on this-with my 4 mile run yesterday i had to stop and walk a quarter mile after 2 miles running, then 3, then 3.65 til i finally got to 4) you can do it though, it's fun when you get started to see the improvement!

So how did you start off? Just did 4.2.. for how many miles? How long did it take you to increase? Teach me your ways taty! :d

Hmm. I think I shall try. My ankle may get in the way once in awhile but if I only do it a couple times a week it shouldn't anger it.'

also, awesome job with the hfcs! It really is amazing how much it is in.

hooray! keep us informed with how it goes🙂

i know it's crazy! i was reading something today about how fructose bypasses some steps in metabolism and it goes into your blood and acts like insulin on the receptors, so it causes insulin resistance. they did this study where they had people on diets with equal amounts of sugar, one group sucrose and one fructose and the results of the fructose were crazy. it's kind of scary what the food companies will do to sell you a cheap, horrible for you product.

I'm going right now... I'll let you know 🙂

"those are a bunch of happy humans right there!" lol

what a goal

YEA JACKSON!!!! Yea...work slowly at it and once you feel it is too easy...do something to challenge yourself...like incline or up to speed a bit

I ran/tried not to die for 30 minutes. I run 30 minutes every day. I don't really care too much about the mileage, more like how I feel after wards.
I started at 4.2 in Aug...by Christmas I was running 5.5 and when I came back to campus I was at 6.0. Stayed there for a long ***** time lol and just messed with incline. Got tired of that and went up to 6.5...but for my long run i go with 6.3 🙂

hmmm ur ankle may be more angry than you realize....try the treadmill, if it angers your ankle, try the elliptical.

It makes me smile when guys man-hug and pat each other on the head like that.

I hate when you burn a CD and then find a great song the next day that you want on it.
Too lazy/Too cheap to reburn it for one song.

This ice dancing thing is strange.

That happens to me all the time. I hate it!

Or when I make a mix of a band from their discography but realize that I put on a bunch of songs I didn't like that much and discover new songs later that should be on the mix.

I was just freaking out because I couldn't find the Sweden-Finland hockey game on TV and it said it started at 9, but then I realized it was 9 pacific.

1.5 hours to kill until another hockey game.

Dude, I thought you had a crazy amount of midterms this week

Note how he's avoiding your true observation, Pedie.

He may be off killing those 1.5 hours right now...

In any case, I admire his ability to procrastinate 😀

It has been enhanced this semester.

I'll probably start freaking out tomorrow. Tuesday night the world will be better - I won't have any tests for 2 weeks.

I can take the hit by doing mediocre on these 3 tests since I know I won't have another day with more than 1 test.

Ow.

...

Ow.

Did a 10 minute warm up on the elliptical.

Then 4.2mph for a little bit - really just fast walking, not running. Then 5.1 for a little. then 4.8 until half a mile, then 4.2 again, then 4.5 until a mile.

I am out of shape.

To be fair, this is my first time running since my leg injury back in Dec 2007 (not that I really ran before then).

I know how pathetic it sounds, but ow.
