my lab is the laziest/awesomest lab ever. If it's possible to buy something pre-made, we do. Even our PCR mix comes in a 2x solution, with the mgcl2 and the enzyme and all the dNTPs already added.

Haha, that'd save us so much time especially making Western gels. Sometimes it'd leak or only some wells would form. In my lab, we make everything that we can.

Yes, I agree...another reason I think Facebook would be a LOT easier 🙄

You guys make me miss being in lab, and I've only been away for 3 weeks. =/ I totally miss the smell of fresh autoclaved LB and E. coli haha.

Ugh, I hate the E coli smell. Sometimes I hang out in the building with all of the Micro labs and have to leave when the E coli smell gets too bad.

we should have a lab party, take centrifuged shots and do lines of EtBr off each other

That's one of the only things I used to do in the old lab I worked in. Westerns were pretty much the only thing we did.

old stinky mouse cages that people don't take back to the mouse house for weeks > the mouse house > > beta-mercaptoethanol > methanol > LB > frog rack

Agreed, although I may be working as low payed university lab slave over the summer.

Hopefully if I am stuck here I'll land a clinical research spot. Those seem like 10x chiller.

That would have made labs better. I don't really work with many other students, and the ones I used to work with at my old lab were tools.

one of my cats, i sometimes feel like he is just faking his inability to speak english, because when he makes noise it literally sounds like a human being saying "meow," though a little high-pitched. i'm hoping he says rawr next

same! this picture of a kitty gets me through some really groggy mornings in the lab sometimes (i have a copy taped by my bench, which is probably on the level of those "hang in there" posters that might just be mythical 'cause i don't know if i've ever seen one)

re, semi: i like to give people the benefit of the doubt. It seemed like maybe he just had different cultural expectations with regards to how/when it's appropriate to express attraction to other people
