rugrats without even 200 posts?

I guess that makes me a newborn. That's funny, I was just looking up pictures of ol' Chuckie and Tommy on Saturday (I like to change the wallpapers of the public computers where I volunteer to very random pictures). I actually ended up changing the background to a picture of Quailman (Doug). And yes, the 10 minutes I spent doing that are going to be included in the volunteer hours of my application.

Chubs in for the win.

KSMI, I'm a lover not a fighter, so if things don't work out between you and chubs you can drop me a line.
What? I get lindsay lohan? Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!

But She needs to put on a few pounds first

Morning, 2014 😀 I'm gonna stay mostly out of your way, buuuut... I highly recommend that you all go play the new pre-allo game: the Sweet Sixteen has returned! 😀

do you guys know if the new msar booklet is out yet?

5 more than 0... haha

P.S. Back at ya, babe

I didn't post until I was in.😀

And as a brief heads up, the new USNWR rankings (ranking system has been slightly changed) will be up Thursday, April 23.

(Not that it means much if you're not at the top or bottom...)

I was wondering about the MSAR too but I'm pretty sure the orange and white one (2009-2010) is going to be the one for our cycle. I think they only publish them books every 2 years. RAWR 😛

Do they really change all that much from year to year?? I have last year's, and I don't really feel like getting another...

the msar book is out already. it is orange not yellow. 2009-2010. i got mine in February. total plus shipping is $33. i was lucky to have found a 2007-2008 at half price books for like $2. 🙂

I think they mean the 2010-2011 one.

i don't think that is what they meant. 2010-2011 is so far away from now.

you got to love half price books. you could find killer and i do mean killer deals there. are they nationwide or is it jsut Barnes & Noble?

The 2009-2010 one came out in April 2008... logically 2010-2011 will be out April 2009. The year is the year that the applicants would start school.

*sigh* OMG my day has been so long! Student Government elections today. I spent about 6 hours campaigning today. My brain no longer works, I swear. 🙁

you got to love half price books.

I just checked out their website, no online ordering? What do you mean it's part of B&N? I guess my search is going to be fruitless b/c their store locator says there's none in VA 🙁

Really, I got mine shipped from B&N. If you can't get it from B&N yet, then go to the AAMC link that Myuu-chan posted earlier today.

Half Price Books is one of my favorite places (or HPB to some). There is something really satisfying about buying a $25 book for 2 dollars sometimes.

As for locations, it seems pretty random, but I know they have stores in TX, MN, and IL... It's too bad they aren't all over.

on another note:
Does everyone here have their own copy of MSAR? I hadn't even thought about buying one. I just look things up on websites, and if I need to, I use the MSAR at the library

thanks everyone! i guess i will go ahead and buy the one on aamc site =)

Oh, I'm not stressed about getting an MSAR, I have extensive notes in a word file on all the stats and info for schools I'm looking at, and my school's pre-health office has like 6 of them. I just wanted to know more about HPB, and it looks like they don't have any stores around here. I think I understand what recyclingbinh was saying now. B&N is nationwide, but HPB is not.

i don't think they're a part of B&N. too bad there isn't a half price books in VA. and there are way too many books for HPB to put online. they get used books all the time. if you are lucky...you might even find the textbook you need for school there.

There are a bunch of used bookstores around, though. Dunno if they'd carry the MSAR. You can have mine if you're in northern Virginia.

when you compare the school's stats in the 2009-2010 msar to the 2007-2008 they have really gone up. jeez....premeds and their competitive stats. 🙂

From 1996 to 2008 average matriculating MCAT went from 29.4 to 30.9. GPA went from 3.54 to 3.66. The MCAT didn't jump nearly as much as the GPAs did, but it does show that med school is only getting more competitive. They'll probably be another big jump now that so many people are wanting to continue school b/c they can't all find jobs.

I was only there for two!

The last time I was on UVA's campus, there were a bunch of girls screaming "DO YOU LIKE VAGINAS?!" at our interview group.:laugh::laugh:

So much win, Myuu 😀

I have nothing against VT. I had a lot of good friends that went there (and got denied from UVA).

Hey Simran, are you thinking about applying to Carillion next year? It's a new med school at afiliated with VT. It's actually in Roanoke. I'm thinking about it because I do kind of want to stay in state. I also think it'd be cool to have such a small class. I think I saw that their class size is going to be 40 students. I don't know about going to a med school in their first year though. I also wonder if it'll be state supported (relatively cheap and easier to get into) or private (expensive). I guess I'll wait and see if it gets acredited and then think about applying.

haha..got to love it =) you must have gone near valentine's day..they usually have the show then =) they do it every year. that is really funny though =)..myuu who did you have for gen chem at tech? i had hanson first semester and amateus second semester..

i didnt even realize tech was opneing their own med school! yes i would def. consider it if it were accredited. im in the same boat as u..i would prefer to go back to uva if they would accept me =) but ideally it would be instate..im applying up and down east coast..we will see what happens..i think for me..so much of it depends on this mcat =)

i think tech and uva have thier own advantages..but a teacher at tech told me i was working too hard..i thought it was a bit weird. and also i had this god awful roommate freshmen year which kinda ruined the whole college experience for me..uva was personally jsut a better fit for me...tech had awesome food thouh.. =)
